FACTS ABOUT MOUAU

The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture , originally the Federal University of Agriculture, is a federal university in Umudike, , established as a specialized University by a Federal Government of Nigeria Decree No 48 of November 1992. It began formal activities in May 1993 with the appointment of the first Council and Vice-Chancellor Professor Placid C. Njoku on 27 May 1993, while other key officials of the University were appointed later.

The first set of students were admitted into the institution during the 1993/94 academic year with a student population of 82.

The nickname "Umudykes" or "U'dykers" refers to students, alumni, and sports teams of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture.

CAMPUS The institution is located in the Agricultural Training and Research city of Umudike , about 10 kilometers from Umuahia (capital of Abia State). The major link road to the University is the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Federal Road, a direct route to the State capitals of Abia Akwa-Ibom and Cross River States. Being close to Umuahia, the University is linked through a major North-South Express Road to most part of the country. It commenced its activities on the premises of the former Federal College of Agriculture, Umudike.

The Qua Iboe River , which rises near Umuahia , flows through the campus grounds.

ACADEMICS

It offers more than 100 programs, and grants more than 40 undergraduate degrees. Post Graduate degrees are offered (M.Sc. and MBA ) and doctoral

FACTS ABOUT MOUAU ADMISSION

In this Article I will be addressing some questions pertaining to Mouau Admission Process. To start with, Let's read this article, posted by the Former webmaster of Mouau, Obioma Kelechi Anyawu on April 11, 2013... It goes thus...... " Basically, admission at MOUAU is based on a competitive quota system. What does that mean? This simply means that during the admission process, each dept/course is allocated a certain number of student slots within the total admission quota for the entire University and these slots are competitively allocated.

COMPILED BY OBIORA OKEKE AND POWERED BY THE GENIUS. CALL; 08064933665 FOR MORE Page 2

THE GENIUS SOLUTIONS FOR MOUAU PUTME AND DE SCREENING EXAMS

So assuming the University has about 8,000 slots approved by NUC for a particular session, this number is divided between the Depts/courses.

Soil Science, Botany, Agronomy may be given less than 100 slots each, while the more competitive Agribusiness, Microbiology, Comp Eng, Comp Science, may be given about 200 slots each. And other depts/courses in order of size and competitiveness.

During the selection process, all the students who applied for each of these courses are listed according to the scores they have, in descending order. Then selection is made based on the quota allocated for that dept/course for that year.

Therefore if after sorting the names a candidates name falls as the 156th person in order of score for a particular program that was allocated 120 slots, obviously such a candidate will not be admitted.

Typically, applications received for the programs mentioned earlier ranges around these figures during Post UTME, Soil Science - less than 50, Botany - about 100, Agronomy - less than 30, while Agribusiness (Dept in COLMAS) - about 6,000, Microbiology -almost 2,000, Comp Eng - about 1,200, Comp Science- over 1,000, Agric Engr – about 700 - 900 etc.

With the explanation above and the figures shown here, you will discover that a candidate who was not offered admission in Comp Eng, will find another candidate with the same score, being offered admission to read Agric Engineering.

This is because the competition is less heated there. Equally a candidate who

COMPILED BY OBIORA OKEKE AND POWERED BY THE GENIUS. CALL; 08064933665 FOR MORE Page 3

THE GENIUS SOLUTIONS FOR MOUAU PUTME AND DE SCREENING EXAMS

was not offered admission to read Biochemistry, will find out that the scores of several of those admitted to read Botany/Zoology are much lower than his/hers.

And when this happens such a candidate will start complaining and claiming that he/she was denied admission as a result of corruption and bribery, obviously not understanding the way the system works.

I can categorically tell you that the merit admissions at MOUAU are processed 100% on merit. After the merit admissions, then comes the supplementary admissions.

But many of our prospective students do not know that supplementary admission is not automatic. You need to indicate interest and apply for it.

If you don't apply for Supplementary Admission at the right time, the result is that a candidate who scored lower than you, but who indicated interest and applied through the proper channels will be admitted and you still find yourself without admission and probably complaining.

Frequently Asked Questions 1. WHAT DOES SUPPLEMENTARY LIST MEANS. After the regular merit admissions lists have been announced and published, successful aspirants are expected to pay the required acceptance fee within a specified time. At the end of the period, the admissions unit, takes stock of the spaces that have not been filled or taken up by paying the required acceptance fee. When the time is right, the University then calls for applications from candidates who have not yet been admitted and who wish to be offered

COMPILED BY OBIORA OKEKE AND POWERED BY THE GENIUS. CALL; 08064933665 FOR MORE Page 4

THE GENIUS SOLUTIONS FOR MOUAU PUTME AND DE SCREENING EXAMS

admission. The announcement usually comes with guidelines on how aspirants can apply and the particular courses/ departments that are open for applications.

Sometimes the guidelines will include the average scores that may be eligible to apply for each course/department. From experience, this admission list tends to generate the longest list and largest number of aspirants being granted admission. The time frame given to receive applications is usually a very small window of time, this makes it imperative that aspirants who may wish to apply need to put their documents together in order to reduce their reaction time to the call for supplementary admission applications. (Excerpt from VNTI)

You have all heard of it from the Horse’s mouth, its best not to delay when the supplementary forms are released. Wish you all the best.

2. WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF GETTING ADMISSION WITH MY AVERAGE ? The higher your average, the better your chances of getting admission.

3. WHAT LIST WILL BE PUBLISHED Some list that would be published includes: Merit admission list, Catchment area, Educational less development state (ELDS), Pre-degree(P.D), Direct entry(D.E) and the Supplementary admission list.

 Culture refers to the cumulative deposit of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, hierarchies, religion, notions of time, roles, spatial relations, concepts of the universe, and material objects and possessions acquired by a group of people in the course of generations through individual and group striving. Culture is the systems of knowledge shared by a relatively large group of people. Culture is communication, communication is culture. • Culture in its broadest sense is cultivated behavior; that is the totality of a person's learned, accumulated experience which is socially transmitted, or more briefly, behavior through social learning. • A culture is a way of life of a group of people--the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next. Culture is symbolic communication. Some of its symbols include a group's skills, knowledge, attitudes, values, and motives. The meanings of the symbols are learned and deliberately perpetuated in a society through its institutions. Culture consists of patterns, explicit and implicit, of and for behavior acquired and transmitted by symbols, constituting the distinctive achievement of human groups, including their embodiments in artifacts; the essential core of culture consists of traditional ideas and especially their attached values; culture systems may, on the one hand, be considered as products of action, on the other hand, as conditioning influences upon further action. Culture is the sum of total of the learned behavior of a group of people that are generally considered to be the tradition of that people and are transmitted from generation to generation.

 Culture is a collective programming of the mind that distinguishes the members of one group or category of people from another. • Culture is the characteristics of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. Today, in the United States as in other countries populated largely by immigrants, the culture is influenced by the many groups of people that now make up the country. Culture is a word for people's 'way of life', meaning the way they do things. Different groups of people may have different cultures. A culture is passed on to the next generation by learning, whereas genetics are passed on by heredity. Culture is seen in people's writing, religion, music, clothes, cooking, and in what they do.

b. Some definitions of Ethic Group;

 Ethnic Group is a group of people living in a geographical area with the same language, culture and belief. Ethnicity or ethnic group is a socially defined category based on common cultural heritage, shared ancestry, history, homeland, language or dialect, and possibly other aspects such as religion, mythology and ritual, cuisine, dressing style, physical appearance, etc. A people of the same race or nationality who share a distinctive culture. • Pertaining to or characteristic of a people, especially a group (ethnic group) sharing a common and distinctive culture, religion, language, or the like.

Read the passage below and answer the question that follows;

Modern agriculture is exciting not because there is a declining number of those employed on farms, but because it is the scene of the greatest technological revolution. If by “farming” one means making one’s living directly on the farm, then perhaps only a negligible number of the boys now growing up on the farms will make their livelihood as farm operators. But if one looks at agriculture in all its economic and technological implications – machinery, fertilizer distribution, accounting, a wide variety of research, etc, then millions more must be included. Needless to add that modern farming is increasingly requiring education and technical knowledge of a substantial order. Questions.

Answer all questions. Time Allowed: 45 minutes. Afternoon Session. Shade the correct answers in the OMR provided.

Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow: Metals can not only be kept with as little loss as any other commodity, but they can likewise, without any loss be divided into any number of parts, and by fusion, those parts can easily be reunited again a quality which no other equally durable commodity possesses and which more than any other quality renders them fit to be instruments of commerce and circulation. The man who wanted to buy salt but had cattle or sheep to give in exchange must have been obliged to buy salt to the value of a whole ox or sheep at a time. He could seldom buy less than this because what was to give for it could seldom be divided without loss; and if he had in mind to buy more, he must, for the same reasons, have been obliged to buy double or triple the quantity of the metal to the precise quantity of commodity which he had immediate occasion. For different metals have been use of by different nations for this purpose. Iron was the common instrument of commerce among the ancient Spartans; Copper among the ancient Romans; Gold and Silver among all rich commercial nations. These metals seem originally to have been made use of for this purpose in rude bars, without any stamp or coinage. These rude bars therefore performed at this time the function of money.

Choose from the listed alternatives the correct answer to the questions.

1. A suitable title for the passage is (A) The Evolution of Money (B) How Money is Made. (C) The Ingredients for Making Money. (D) Buying and Selling of Salt.

Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow:

Industrialization which is simply a name for industrial development is growing in those developing countries which are trying to increase their wealth and productivity. HOW TO CALCULATE MOUAU FINAL AGGREGATE

Your final aggregate is what is considered during admission process in Mouau. It is gotten by following the steps below

1. Divide you Jamb score by 8 2. Divide your Post Utme Score by 2 3. Add results from step 1 and 2 above.

That becomes your final average.

For example;

If Obiora Scored 200 in his Jamb and scored 75 in Post Utme, his final aggregate will now be;

Jamb score divided by 8 + Post Utme score divided by 2

200 i.e Jamb = = 25 8

75 Post Utme = = 37.5 2

Therefore, final aggregate will be

25 + 37.5 = 62.5.
