New Zealand Datasheet 1 PRODUCT NAME ROZEX® CREAM 2 QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION Metronidazole 7.5 mg/g 3 PHARMACEUTICAL FORM Contains 0.75% w/w metronidazole as the active ingredient in an oil-in-water cream base containing 4 CLINICAL PARTICULARS 4.1 Therapeutic indications ROZEX CREAM is indicated for the treatment inflammatory papules and pustules of rosacea. 4.2 Dosage and method of administration ROZEX CREAM should be applied in a thin layer to the affected areas of the skin twice daily, morning and evening. Areas to be treated should be washed with a mild cleanser before application. Patients may use non-comedogenic and non-astringent cosmetics after application of ROZEX CREAM. The dosage does not need to be adjusted for elderly patients. Safety and effectiveness in paediatric patients have not been established. ROZEX is not recommended for use in children. The average period of treatment is three to four months. The recommended duration of treatment should not be exceeded. If a clear benefit has been demonstrated continued therapy for a further three to four months period may be considered by the prescribing physician depending upon the severity of the condition. Clinical experience with ROZEX CREAM over prolonged periods is limited at present. Patients should be monitored to ensure that clinical benefit continues and that no local or systemic events occur. In the absence of a clear clinical improvement therapy should be stopped. ROZEX CREAM should not be used in or close to the eyes. The use of a sunscreen is recommended when exposure to sunlight cannot be avoided. -

Elston, MD An otherwise healthy woman in her late 50s with Fitzpatrick skin type II presented to the derma- tology department for a scheduled cosmetic botulinum toxin injection. Her medical history was notable only for periodic nonsurgical cosmetic procedures including botulinum toxin and dermal fillers, and she was not taking any daily systemic medications. Duringcopy the preoperative assess- ment, subtle bilateral and symmetric hypertricho- sis with darker terminal hair formation was noted on the periorbital skin and zygomatic cheek. Uponnot inquiry, the patient admitted to purchas- ing a “special eye drop” from Mexico and using it regularly. Psoriasis Patients Get Less Sleep.In a 16-week study presented at the 2011 AAD Meeting in New Orleans (P 3341), investigators found that psoriasis patients had an average of 12 minutes less of sleep per night than did individuals without psoriasis, which is about an hour and a half less sleep per week. Why psoriasis patients got less sleep is not fully clear, but it is speculated that itching from psoria- sis causes increased sleep disturbances. Authors also indicated that patients with psoriasis were at a 1 60 percent increased likelihood of snoring. In addition, just 47 percent of patients with psoriasis self-reported sleep adequacy, compared to 60 percent of the non-psoriatic population. Alcohol Tied to Development of Psoriasis.Alcohol can directly cause or exacerbate several skin conditions, new research indicates (Skin Therapy Lett. 2011 April; 16(4): 5-7). In particular, alcohol misuse is implicated in the development of psoriasis and discoid eczema, in addition to conferring increased susceptibility to skin and systemic infections. Researchers also noted that alcohol misuse might also 2 exacerbate rosacea, porphyria cutanea tarda, and post-adolescent acne. Patients Can Benefit From Continuous Biologic Treatment. Continuous treatment with ustekinumab (Stelara, Centocor Ortho Biotech) can have a positive impact on a patient’s life, according to new data (2011 AAD, New Orleans. P 3315). The study evaluated patients who either continued or discontinued ustekinumab therapy after 40 weeks of treatment and found a rapid loss of quality of life in patients who discontinued therapy at just 12 weeks after discontinuation. -

Ten years before, the diagnosis of alopecia areata was made with subsequent complete loss of scalp and body hair (alopecia universalis; figure 1). Apart from sensory, motor, and autonomic changes, most strikingly, hypertrichosis of the fifth digit was detectable on the right hand (figure 2). Hypertrichosis is common in CRPS.1 The underlying mechanisms are poorly understood and may involve increased neurogenic inflammation.2 This case nicely illustrates the powerful hair growth stimulus in CRPS. Jacobson, MD7 Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a chronic, cholestatic, autoimmune disease with a variable progressive course. PBC can cause debilitating symptoms including fatigue and pruritus and, if left untreated, is associated with a high risk of cirrhosis and related complications, liver failure, and death. Recent changes to the PBC landscape include a REVIEW A name change, updated guidelines for diagnosis and treatment as well as new treatment options that have recently become available. Practicing clinicians face many unanswered questions when managing PBC. To assist these healthcare providers in managing patients with PBC, the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) Institute for Clinical Research & Education, in collaboration with the Chronic Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF), organized a panel of experts to evaluate and summarize the most current and relevant peer-reviewed literature regarding PBC. In acute-phase AA, CD4+ and CD8+ T cells infiltrated in the juxta-follicular area. In chronic-phase AACD8+ T cells dominated the infiltrate around hair bulbs which contributes to the prolonged state of hair loss. Treatments include mainly corticosteroids, topical irritants, minoxidil, cytotoxic drugs and biologicals. This review highlights mainly the pathomechanism and pathology, classifications and associated diseases with regard to their importance for current and future treatment. Make sure you and your healthcare provider keep your vaccinations up to date. Vaccine Do you need it? Hepatitis A Yes! Your chronic liver disease or infection puts you at risk for serious complications if you get infected with the (HepA) hepatitis A virus. If you’ve never been vaccinated against hepatitis A, you need 2 doses of this vaccine, usually spaced 6–18 months apart. Hepatitis B Yes! If you already have chronic hepatitis B infection, you won’t need hepatitis B vaccine. However, if you have (HepB) hepatitis C or other causes of chronic liver disease, you do need hepatitis B vaccine. The vaccine is given in 2 or 3 doses, depending on the brand. In this article, we performed a comprehensive PubMed database search on syndromic HHI with cutaneous abnormalities, and reviewed a total of 260 relevant publications.
