• Shirley Park LTC News Letter – Spring 2012
Shirley Park LTC News Letter – Spring 2012 Club Championships – Summer 2011 Mens Singles Final - Harry Ware beat Dan Hatton 6-1 7-6 It seemed that Harry Ware was in a hurry when he raced through the opening set of the Mens Singles Final against two-time former champion Dan Hatton taking it 6-1 in just 22 minutes. However, the second set proved a much closer affair. Dan struck early on by taking the first two games of a see-saw set that contained some high quality tennis and exciting rallies. Harry then broke service twice to take a 3-2 lead, but Dan returned the compliment and had a chance to take the set when serving at 5-3. Two double faults gave Harry the chance to level and, after sharing service holds, he eased through the tie-break to successfully defend his title in straight sets. Ladies Singles Final - Natalie Davis beat Kamila Morgan 6-2 6-3 This was a tight affair. Kamila came out hitting some crunching forehands but Natalie wisely kept most of her shots to Kamila's backhand in an attempt to neutralise her opponent's game. It became clear early on that Natalie’s strategy was to simply out rally her opponent with her consistency. Natalie showing great resilience broke Kamila in the fourth & sixth games to win the first set 6-2. The second set produced some stunning tennis with Kamlia using her forehand topspin to good effect. Kamila moved into a 3-1 lead and at this stage it looked we could be heading to a third set.

What are my plans for improving the program? ............................................................... 12 1 1. Introduction - What is the grand slam tennis program? The Grand Slam Tennis Program allows you to see how recent grand slam tennis champions would fair against champions from the past. You can choose from more than 90 former men's grand slam champions and more than 80 former Women's Champions. In addition, you can choose to play the tennis match at the Australian Open, U.S. Open, Wimbledon, or French Open. International tennis matches can also be played, with the option of choosing from many countries around the world. The program is perfect for simulating individual match ups or holding an entire tournament. This is not video graphic game. It is a statistical game based on each former tennis player’s historical success in playing major grand slam singles events. While some players have a higher probability of success, their performance in any particular tournament is still subject to the laws of random probability. For example, a player who has had major success in the French Open is likely to do well in the French Open, but could still lose to a player who has had less historical success in the French Open.

Dallas, TX GAME, SET, AND MATCH f you followed men’s tennis in the 1980s, you know that the most dom- inant players atDIGITAL the time were REVIEW American JohnCOPY McEnroe and Czecho- I slovakian Ivan Lendl. In the history of tennis, there has probably never been a more natural tennis talent than John McEnroe. He had a unique style that couldn’t be taught or copied, and he possessed a special talent: a distinct feel for the ball on the racket, especially at the net. With his aggres- sive serve-volley approach, he was able to impose his type of play on his opponents. He “read” his opponents’ shots accurately before they even hit the ball and instinctively moved to the right positions on the court. A lot of McEnroe’s game had to do with instinct, and he constantly invented new shots and new angles. He was a talent that comes around only once in a generation. You can think of John McEnroe as a Natural-Born Tennis Player. But would it have been a good idea for junior players (like me) to model their games after McEnroe? No, because it would have been almost impossible. That’s why most players back then tried to follow closer in the footsteps of Ivan Lendl, one of the first offensive baseline players in men’s tennis, and someone who had a much bigger impact on the next gener- ation of tennis players than McEnroe.
