The Board of Governors of the Boston/New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is pleased to present the following nominees for the 31st Boston/New England Emmy Awards. This list contains material provided by Emmy® Express and includes the title of the entry, each entrants name and the stations on which the material aired. Except for spelling errors, no changes or additions are permitted to this list. Additional acknowledgements for the program book are allowed at this time, these individuals are not eligible for complimentary certificates or Emmy® statuettes. Corrections must be submitted to [email protected] by Monday, April 14, 2008. The ballots were tabulated by Parent, McLaughlin & Nangle, Certified Public Accountants, Inc. There are no nominees in PSA’s Single Spot, Commercials, and Editor-Within 24 Hours categories. Nomination Certificates will be sent to all persons listed on the Boston/New England Nomination List. Additional Nomination Certificates may be ordered for $25 each. Email Jill at [email protected] for an order form. The categories were judged by your peers from the Northwest, Pacific Southwest, Mid-Atlantic and Mid-America Chapters of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. As participants in the Emmy® process you will be contacted to serve on a judging panel for these chapters. The success of the Emmy® Awards depends on your willingness to serve as a peer judge on at least one panel per year.     ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: BASEBALL, CITIZENSHIP, AND NATIONAL IDENTITY IN GEORGE W. BUSH’S AMERICA Ryan Edward King‐White, Doctor of Philosophy, 2008 Dissertation directed by: Professor David L. Andrews Department of Kinesiology The four separate, but related, studies within this research project seek to offer a critical understanding for how American national identit(ies), and particular forms of (cultural) citizenship are discursively constructed and performed in and through the sport of baseball. More specifically, this dissertation will utilize and expand upon critical theories of neoliberalism, citizenship, whiteness, and (physical) cultural studies to engage various empirical sites, which help provide the context for everyday life in contemporary America. Each chapter looks at various empirical aspects of the Little League World Series and the fans of the Boston Red Sox (popularly referred to as Red Sox Nation) that have historically privileged particular performances and behaviors often associated with white, American, heterosexual, upper‐middle class, masculine subject‐positions. In the first instance this project also attempts to describe how ‘normalized’ American citizenship is being (re)shaped in and through the sport of baseball. Using portraits of Mrs. Nieman’s mother and father as references, he worked with cut pages from Nieman Reports and from the Foundation’s archival material to create this likeness. About the portrait on page 6: Alexandra Garcia (left), NF ’13, an Emmy Award-winning multimedia journalist with The Washington Post, based her acrylic portrait with collage on the photograph of Agnes Wahl Nieman standing with her husband, Lucius Nieman, in the pressroom of The Milwaukee Journal. The photograph was likely taken in the mid-1920s when Mrs. Nieman would have been in her late 50s or 60s. Garcia took inspiration from her Fellowship and from the Foundation’s archives to present a younger depiction of Mrs. Nieman.     Wilbraham Library News Spring 2021 Program To Explore Quabbin's History, Marvels, Myths Learn about the Quabbin Reservoir, its history and how it Wednesday, May 5, 6 p.m. is managed from Maria Beiter-Tucker, manager of the Quabbin Visitor Center for the state Department of Conservation and Recreation. While the Quabbin is a haven for wildlife, its main purpose is to provide drinking water for Boston. It is the largest reservoir of surface water in the world, and it is the only one of its size that doesn’t require further filtration before entering the water supply. Learn more about the reservoir’s unique history and the challenges that go into maintaining it. This virtual presentation will cover many of the questions and myths that surround the Quabbin.
