Records show that a Higham Town club was formed in 1876 at a meeting held in the Griffin. There was a team com- peting in the Northants League (now the ) during the 1890s and in 1895 the team were run- ners up in the FA Junior cup. They joined the Northamptonshire League in 1897. The club's golden age was however in the 1920s. Re-formed after the end of the "great war" the team started in the and District league in season 1920–21, winning the NFA junior cup and gaining admittance to the Northants league. the team won the league at the first attempt together with the NFA senior cup. the league title was retained the fol- lowing season and the county FA's premier competition, the Maunsell cup was also won, a unique cup treble unlikely ever again to be repeated. That same season also saw the club draw at Football League third division north side Chesterfield, 4–4 in the FA Cup, only to lose 1–0 at home in the replay. The club were the highest scorers in the FA cup that year. In 1923–24 and 1926–27 the club were runners up in the league and in 1931 and 1933 were senior cup runners up. In 1934 the Maunsell cup was won for the second and to date the last time by a United Counties League side. Town who had beaten First Division leaders Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup earlier in the season being beaten finalists. On the resumption of league football in 1946 the club played in the & Dis- trict League where they remained for four seasons before rejoining the UCL. During the period 1950 to 1997 the highest league position achieved was second on seven occasions, In 1970–71,again in the following season and then in 1989–90 and in each of the four seasons from 1992–93 to 1995–96. finally in 1997–98 they won Division One, their first league title for 75 years but were runners up again once again in 1998–99. In 1994–95 the NFA junior cup was won for only the second time and the reserves were promoted to the UCL Reserve Division One for the first time. The first team were runners up in the Division Two knock out cup in 1954 whilst the reserves won the division three cup in 1980. More recently the club beat a number of Premier Division sides in the revamped league cup. this includes the record win, 7–0 against Wellingborough Town whilst in 1995–96 they won 1–0 away to Premier Division Champions and FA Vase quarter-finalists Town and have twice reached the semi finals of the competition. In 2011, a new incarnation of Higham Town was founded, playing in the Northamptonshire Combination Division. They play their home games at Lancaster Park in . The season of 2016/2017 saw them win the Division 2 cup on penalties vs Northampton Spartak .Rushden Rangers were formed as a youth football club in 1978 and it was not until the mid-1990s that a senior section was formed. In the short time that they were in existence before the merger they won the NFA lower junior cup as well as being Northants Combination league and KO cup winners. Founded by Steve Cavender in 1978 who was inspired by watching local lads playing a game of football at Melloway Park. He was General Secretary until 1990. The Rangers started by playing friendlies with only 3 teams coached by Bruce Ogden and Joe Payne. They had expanded to 5 teams by 1990 ranging in age from 11 to 15. Players went on to Higham Youth Team at 16. Home games were played at Jubilee Park, Spencer Park and Higham. In 1994 Neil Gant offered the Hayden Road ground to Rushden Rangers when Rushden Town formed with Diamonds to become Rushden and Diamonds Football Club. On 19 May 1995 a meeting was held at Rushden & Diamonds and the offer was made to purchase the facilities of Rushden Town F.C. at Hayden Road In 2007 the decision was made to merge the two clubs, with the new club playing at Rangers' ground in order to preserve United Counties League football within the two towns. With assistance from the Stadia Improvement fund the Hayden Road ground was brought up to the required standard and Rushden & Higham United was founded.[1] Rushden Rangers continued at youth level for one season before also changing their name to Rushden & Higham United. From the start of the 2017 -18 season AFC Rushden & Diamonds agreed a groundshare with the club whereby R&D moved to Hayden Road. Good afternoon Ladies and gentlemen and welcome to jubilee Park for tonight’s United Counties Division league one game against Rushden and Higham.

I would especially like to welcome the players, staff and supporters of tonights opponents who have made the short journey from Northamptonshire today. I hope that you enjoy your brief stay with us here in .

I have always enjoyed playing against Rushden and Higham no matter the result, had some great battles with Abbo on the pitch. They are a proper footballing side who, as a club do things in the right way. It was at Hayden Road that Kev and I had our first game in the Huntingdon Town Dugouts last season. The game ended in a 0-0 draw and as 0-0 go it was a pretty entertaining affair with both sides having oppor- tunities to win but a draw was probably the fair result.

We come in to the game in good form having won 2 out of our opening 3 league games. I have no doubt that Rushden will provide stiff opposition especially having appointed new management this week and players eager to impress.

Saturday we hosted step 5 Mildenhall Town in the FA vase. I had been to see them play in the week leading up to the game and knew we would be in for a battle. To be fair we played OK but were toothless up top and didn’t really create anything. Our midfield once again performed well but two poor errors at the back allowed their striker the easiest of chances.

Clearly I don’t like losing but if we can draw lessons from it then it hasn’t been a waste of time. I am hoping that we can put the wrongs right today.

WE FEAR NO FOE

Lorro Huntingdon Town Football Club were formed in 1995 following a move from the West Anglian League to the Cambs League. Prior to entry to the Cambs League Division 2B for the 1996-97 season, Town were known as Sun FC and originally began life back in 1980 as the Montagu which was formed by the current Secretary Russell Yezek. The committee decided that they wished to pro- gress in local football and choose to resurrect the then defunct name of Huntingdon Town. Progress was soon made both on & off the field. Behind the scenes the club is run on a very sound footing by a solid committee led by Chairman Hans Reif. On the playing front the appointment of Manager Andy Rossi, who’s wealth of experience on both the playing & Managerial side, led to a steady climb through the Cambs league. In 1998 “The Town” gained promotion from Division 2B into Division 1B. In the season 1999-2000 the club finished as winners of Division 1B as well as winning the Huntingdonshire FA Junior Cup for the first time. The following season saw more Cup success, retaining the Hunts Junior Cup, as well as runners up in the Hunts Scott Gatty Cup. The 2001-2002 season was also very successful winning the Scott Gatty Cup & also the Hunts Junior Cup for the third successive time. The club also finished runners up in the Cambs League Senior B Division and the Percy Oldham Cup that season. The Club moved to their new site at Jubilee Park in 2003 & this enabled work to be undertaken to provide the facilities necessary for the continued progression of the Club. The team moved to play in the UCL Division 1, having transferred from the Cambs league at the end of the 2002/2003 season. The first four seasons in the United Counties League were something of a learning curve for Town, reflected in their league positions of 17th, 14th, 12th & 14th respectively. The 2007-2008 saw the 1st Team finish 4th only missing out on promotion by goal difference & the Reserves win the Reserve Division 2 Title & win the Hunts Benevolent Cup. Huntingdon Town also run an Un- der 18 side in the Ridgeons Youth League. All three teams play their home games at the Clubs Jubilee Park ground on Kings Ripton Road, In July 2004 the new £37,000 floodlighting system was opened with a match against United which attracteda near 1000 crowd. The new £1.1 million Clubhouse was open for the 2009-2010 season with the only success on the field being the all conquering U18 team, winning the league, league Cup & County Cup. T he 2011-2012 season started full of optimism, with a new Chairman at the helm & many new signings. Faith was kept with the Management pairing of Ricky Marheineke & Paul Swannell who guided Town to a credible 5th place in the 2010-2011 season after sitting 3rd from bottom when taking over in February 2011. Optimism turned to joy with Town winning the United Counties League Division 1 Title, scoring over 100 goals in the process. Man- ager Ricky Marheineke won 2 Manager of the month awards. Town also reached the Semi – Final of the Hinchingbrooke Cup losing 3 – 0 to step 4 side Town. A new 50-seater stand was erected, with another planned by the end of the 2012–2013 season The 2012-2013 season saw Town finish 4th in their first season in the Premier again scoring over 100 goals & reaching the Hunts Senior Cup Final drawing 0-0 with St Neots Town & losing on Penalties. The second 50 seat stand was erected The 2013-2014 season saw Town finish runners up in the league again scoring over 100 goals. But won the league KO Cup & the prestigious Hinchingbrooke Cup both for the first time The 2014-2015 season saw Town just staved off relegation, the club started the 2015-2016 season in turmoil. Doug McIlwain was bought in as Chairman to steady the ship & move the club forward. Rebuilding came with a price, losing both the Reserve & U18 team by the end of the season. Although Town finish bottom of the league for the first time in their history, due to circumstances held on to their position in the UCL Premier Division, so the 2016-2017 season starts on a more positive note with Bob Warby as Manager & Mark Forrest as his assistant full of optimism The 2016-2017 season saw Town bottom of the league for the second year running, but this time were relegated to Division 1. James Brattan & Ryan Hunnings were appointed joint Managers. Bob Warby has taking the role of Sporting Director to look to de- velop the Club to gain more Teams. Starting this season with the formation of an U18 team The 2017-2018 Season saw Town finish a credible 12th in Division 1 & reach the Final of the Hinchingbrooke Cup The 2018-19 started very badly for Huntingdon and a managerial change was made 10 games in bringing Jimmy Brattan back into the club unfortunately yet again the club finished 3rd from bottom 2019-20 saw more of the same as the club struggled to settle down and find the right manager / player combination. Off the pitch massive investments were made to improve the pitch and other facilities at Jubilee Park. On the pitch the season that didn’t hap- pen by the time of lockdown the 1st team were second from bottom with a new management team and almost new squad ready for the last 8 games that never happened. So, we head into a new season looking forward to a FULL season under new manager Laurence Revell D
