The original purchase included photographs and snapshots of , Geraldine Bonner, , Charmian London, , Miriam Michelson, Margaret Miller, Yone Noguchi, Herman Scheffauer, and Agnes Tobin. Miss Nellie Barnes gave prints of photographs of the following members of : John H. E. Partington with son, John Allan; Richard L. Partington; Phyllis Partington dressed for her role in "Carmen;" and John Allan Partington. In addition, she gave prints copied from photographs of portraits of Mrs. John H. E. Partington (done by her husband, ca. 1888) and of Dr. Aurelia Reinhardt (done by Richard L. Partington in 1927). The originals of these photographs are in the possession of Mrs. Richard L. Scope and Content The Partington Collection consists mainly of the correspondence and personal library of Blanche Partington which was purchased in 1957 from her nephew John A. Partington of New York City. Miss Partington, drama critic on The San Francisco Call about the turn-of-the-century, was a prominent member of the city's music and literary colony and close friend to many of the literati of the period, notably Ambrose Bierce, George and Carrie Sterling, and Jack and Charmian London.

Guide to the Partington Family Papers, BANC MSS C-H 84 BANC FILM 2207 BANC FILM 2211 6 ca. 1892-1946 In addition to Miss Partington's correspondence, there are some letters written to other members of her family -her father, John Herbert Evelyn Partington, an English painter who migrated to the U.S. in 1890 and established the School of Magazine and Newspaper Illustration in San Francisco; her brother, Richard Langtry, who became a prominent portrait painter; her sister, Gertrude, who also became an artist; and her sister, Phyllis, known as Frances Peralta on the opera stage. The books in the collection, mainly author-inscribed copies, have been separately catalogued. A list of them, arranged alphabetically by author, is appended to this report. There has been added to the collection of papers, photocopies of items in the possession of the surviving members of the family in the Bay Area, Mrs. Gertrude Partington Albright and Mrs. Richard Partington. These were the gift of Miss Nellie Barnes. Each of these items has been identified with respect to the source.
