In 1999 the course had been reworked to its original Dick Wilson design, but now most of the players thought the course was too easy. -

ADVENTURES IN GOLF The Ultimate Golfing Experience Autumn/Winter 2011 Old Course, St. Andrews – Guaranteed Tee Times We have received our 2012 Tee Time Allocation for the Old Course in St. Andrews. Because we confirm our tee times on a first deposit-received basis, we urge you to contact us today. Guaranteed tee times are available from April through October for four or eight golfers, and additional golfers can be accommo - dated upon request. It is worth noting – only a relatively few companies in the world receive an allocation of Old Course tee times. Please do not confuse a guaranteed tee time with the Ballot. We have clients regularly mention the Ballot in lieu of an actual guaranteed tee time, but they are not interchangeable. The Ballot is a lottery system , in which St Andrews Links Trust draws names from a list on a daily basis, so there are some winners…and some losers. Although we’ve had a very good success rate when balloting our clients over the years there is certainly no way to guarantee success. And, when trying to access the Old Course in the summer months any Ballot application can be competing with dozens of others on the same day. So, be sure to inquire as to our current tee time availability as this is the only way to guarantee you’ll peg it up on the Old Course. VIVENDI TROPHY Continental Europe Vs
VIVENDI TROPHY Continental Europe vs. Great Britain and Ireland The Duel, 15-18 September, 2011 Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche (France) Press release – 18th May, 2011 In the spirit of Severiano Ballesteros Vivendi today announced that Jean Rene Fourtou, Chairman of the Vivendi Supervisory Board, has suggested to the PGA European Tour that the "Vivendi Trophy with Seve Ballesteros" be renamed to "The Vivendi Seve Trophy", in memory of Severiano Ballesteros who really knew, amongst other things, how to develop and support the spirit of match play and Golf as an all-round game. During the day's press conference, Scott Kelly, Marketing Director of the PGA European Tour emotionally welcomed the change on behalf of the PGA European Tour. The 2011 Vivendi Trophy The Vivendi Trophy takes place every two years, alternating with the Ryder Cup. The Vivendi Trophy 2011 will take place from 15th to 18th September at the Saint-Nom-La- Bretèche Golf Course. Following the success of its 2009 version, the second edition of this great competition, initiated and organised by CANAL+ EVENTS, will once again put the 10 best players in Continental Europe in a head to head with the elite of Great Britain and Ireland. A new champion at the helm Jose Maria Olazabal will succeed Colin Montgomerie as the Ryder Cup 2012 Team Captain. The Spanish champion will then head the Seve Trophy 2011. "Txema" may, like Monty did in 2009, oversee and observe the two teams. This arrival is also highly symbolic: we all remember the achievements of the fearsome pair in the Ryder Cup with Olazabal and Ballesteros. -

Clutch Strokes: Performance Under Pressure in Golf
COLLEGE OF THE HOLY CROSS Clutch Strokes: Performance Under Pressure in Golf Jeffrey Paadre This paper examines 10 years worth of PGA Tour Tournament data in order to examine whether or not clutch performance exists during the final round of a tournament. After controlling scores for differences in course difficulty, the paper finds no evidence of tangible clutch performance. The authors find that the perception of clutch performance is more likely attributable to talent differential between golfers. Assuming a normal distribution of golfer talent, it is possible that Tiger Woods can outshoot his opponents on the final day of a tournament as well as lose his lead to his competitors. Motivation and Literature In professional sports, heroes can be created through the concept of clutch performance. The perception of clutch performance occurs when an athlete raises his or her performance to an extraordinary level during the most important moments of a sporting event. Athletes such as David Ortiz and Adam Vinatieri have been immortalized as legends due to their consistent ability to help their teams win baseball and football games during important games where the outcome was hanging in the balance. Conversely Bill Buckner and Scott Norwood are amongst the unfortunate athletes burdened with reputations as choke artists based on their inability to perform well when their teams needed a high performance the most. One of the challenges that accompanies examining performance under pressure lies within trying to define which performances constitute clutch performance. For example, in 2005 John Henry, the owner of the Boston Red Sox, presented David Ortiz with a plaque inscribed “David Ortiz: The Greatest Clutch Hitter in the History of the Boston Red Sox”.
