Installation of Printer Driver This unit contains an installer (RPM package) to install a Linux printer driver on your computer. This installer will install and upgrade your printer driver. It creates a print queue after the installation. Downloading the Installer There are 2 types of installer (RPM package), described below. These files can be downloaded from our website onto your computer. Installer File name Description Printer driver fxlinuxprint-x.x.x-1.i386.rpm Linux printer driver Print setup utility fxlinuxprintutil-x.x.x-1.i386.rpm Utility to setup printing functions of the Linux printer driver Note: “x.x.x” represents the current version of the installer. Please note that communication costs associated with accessing this site shall be borne by the customer. http://www.fujixerox.co.jp/ Installing/Upgrading Printer Driver Select and run the RPM package from the terminal software command prompt to install or upgrade. Note: Description below is for new installation. If you are upgrading the already installed printer driver, replace the rpm command option “-ivh” with “-Uvh” for Steps 3 and 5. 1. Start terminal and login as Superuser. Note: Terminal start method may vary depending on the distributor. Please refer to the distributor’s manual. 2. If necessary, move to the directory where the RPM package is being stored. Note: If you wish to work in a directory where the RPM package is not stored, designate a path to the RPM package in Steps 3 and 5. 3. Run the following command to install the printer driver (replace “x.x.x” with installer version). # rpm -ivh fxlinuxprint-x.x.x-1.i386.rpm The following is displayed to inform the end of the installation. # rpm -ivh fxlinuxprint-x.x.x-1.i386.rpm Preparing...###########################[100%] 1:fxlinuxprint###########################[100%] # 4. Run the following commands to reload CUPS and restart. # /etc/init.d/cups reload # /etc/init.d/cups restart Note: Reload and start commands may vary depending on the distributor, and one example is shown below. Please refer to the distributor’s manual for detail. # /etc/rc.d/init.d/cups reload # /etc/rc.d/init.d/cups restart 5. Run the following command to install printer setup utility (replace “x.x.x” with installer version). # rpm -ivh fxlinuxprintutil-x.x.x-1.i386.rpm The following is displayed to inform the end of the installation of printer setup utility. # rpm -ivh fxlinuxprintutil-x.x.x-1.i386.rpm Preparing...###########################[100%] 1:fxlinuxprintutil###########################[100%] # If you are using SUSE (CUPS version 1.1.23 or later), go to CUPS Password Setup (SUSE Only) in the next section; if not, skip to Create a Print Queue on page 5. CUPS Password Setup (SUSE Only) If you are using SUSE (CUPS version 1.1.23 or later), run the following command in the terminal window to setup a password for CUPS. 1. Start terminal and login as Superuser. Note: Terminal start method may vary depending on the distributor. Please refer to the distributor’s manual. 2. Run the following command. # lppasswd -g sys -a root 3. Enter a password for CUPS. Enter Password: Enter Password again: #exit exit Go to [Create a Print Queue] in the next section. If you are asked to enter a password in Step 5 of [Create a Print Queue], enter the password you created here. Create a Print Queue To use the device in a Linux environment, it is necessary to create a print queue after installing the printer driver. Note: Description below is the procedure to create a print queue on your web browser though the CUPS web management site (http://localhost:631/). 1. Turn on the device. 2. Start your web browser and enter the following URL in the address bar to access the CUPS web management site. http://localhost:631/ CUPS web management site is displayed. 3. Click [Printer] or [Printer Info]. 4. Click [Add Printer]. 5. If asked to enter a login name and password, enter the administrator’s login name (root) and password (CUPS password for SUSE). 6. Enter [Printer Name], [Printer Location], [Description], and click [Continue]. 7. Select [LPD/LPR Host or Printer] from the [Device] menu and click [Continue]. 8. In the [URI] field, enter “lpd://[printer IP address]/[queue name]” and click [Continue]. The following example is for IP address: 192.168.1.100 and queue name of “queue_1”. Note: For queue name, create a name you like. 9. Select [FX] for [Vendor Name] and click [Continue]. 10. Select a driver from [Device Name] and click [Continue]. 11. The following message will be displayed A print queue has been created. .
