Swanilda suspects her fiance, Frantz, of harboring a secret love for Coppelia. The burgermeister announces that tomorrow he will distribute dowries to the engaged couples of the village and urges Swanilda to wed Frantz. But possessed by jealousy, Swanilda breaks off the engagement. Night falls and the crowd disperses. As Coppelius leaves his house, he is jostled by a group of young men and drops his key. Swanilda finds the key and enters the forbidden house with her friends. Frantz, too, is attempting to enter the house when Coppelius returns unexpectedly. Act II Coppelius' workshop peopled with curious figures The young women overcome their initial timidity and boldly make their way through the house. Swanilda quickly discovers to her joy that Coppelia is only a mechanical doll. At this point, Coppelius suddenly appears and chases out the intruders, all but Swanilda who, hidden behind the curtain, takes the place of Coppelia. Coming upon Frantz, who has finally gotten into the house, Coppelius makes him drink a potion intended to pull the young man's vital force from his body and transfer it to the doll.

    COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE Pour diffusion immédiate Une danseuse étoile à la tête du RQD Montréal, le 8 décembre 2004 – Forte de l’adhésion unanime d’une centaine de membres réunis en assemblée générale annuelle, le 5 décembre dernier, la danseuse étoile Anik Bissonnette s’est dite très touchée d’être élue au poste de présidente du conseil d’administration du Regroupement québécois de la danse. C’est avec détermination que madame Bissonnette prend la relève du chorégraphe et directeur artistique Pierre-Paul Savoie qui s’est investi sans compter, pendant cinq ans, à promouvoir les intérêts de la danse et à rallier autour d’enjeux communs une communauté artistique arrivée à un point tournant de son histoire.     News Release THE NATIONAL ARTS CENTRE AND THE GOVERNOR GENERAL’S PERFORMING ARTS AWARDS FOUNDATION ANNOUNCE A ONE-HOUR TELEVISION SPECIAL ON CBC/RADIO-CANADA Produced by the National Arts Centre with Vérité Films, the bilingual television special will celebrate the 2021 Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards laureates on November 26 JUNE 2, 2021 – OTTAWA, CANADA – The National Arts Centre (NAC), in partnership with the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards Foundation and Vérité Films, is pleased to announce a one-hour television special on CBC/Radio-Canada that will celebrate the 2021 laureates of Canada’s highest honour in the performing arts. Normally an annual highlight of the Canadian performing arts calendar, the 2020 Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards Gala at the NAC was postponed because of the pandemic. With the continuing uncertainty of the public health situation, this year’s celebration will instead become an exciting one-hour special broadcast on CBC Television, ICI TÉLÉ and the free CBC Gem and ICI TOU.TV streaming services on Friday, November 26 at 7 p.m. ET. The bilingual show, complete with moving tributes, exciting performances, and music by the National Arts Centre Orchestra, will celebrate the extraordinary achievements of the laureates, who are some of Canada’s greatest artists. The broadcast, produced by the National Arts Centre with Vérité Films, will be led by a stellar artistic team that includes award-winning executive producer Virginia Thompson and highly acclaimed director Joel Ivany, co-creator of Messiah/Complex. The show will be filmed in locations across the country and internationally, following all necessary health and safety protocols as required.
