Collection Description

Biographical Note Wilson Lumpkin, Georgia legislator (1804-ca. 1814), United States congressman (1815-1817; 1827-1831), Georgia governor (1831-1835), and United States senator (1837-1841), was born January 14, 1783, in Pittsyvania County, , and died December 28, 1870, in Athens, Georgia.

Scope and Content Note The collection consists of the papers of Wilson Lumpkin from 1839-1840. The papers include four letters written while Lumpkin was a U.S. Senator. They are concerned with both political and personal matters.
