January 2011 Obituaries Mr. Marvin Oscar Williams, age 93, of Shelbyville, died Monday, January 3, 2011, at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama. Funeral services will be 1 PM Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Coleman Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 11 AM until service time. He was born June 6, 1917, in Bedford County, to the late Thomas Marvin Williams and Auda Clay Williams. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. He held membership in the American Legion, Senior Citizens, and was one of nine Bedford County Veterans who participated in the Honor Flight in 2009, to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. He was retired from Empire Pencil Company and Mary’s Flowers. He was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church, for over 51 years, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Reese Williams, and five sisters, Elsie Thomas, Muriel Poplin, Virginia Reed, Eva Mae Gammill, and Kitty Ruth Williams. He is survived by a daughter, Emily Williams, of New Market, Alabama; two granddaughters, Julie Tillett Turner, and her husband John, of Meridianville, Alabama, and Caroline Tillett Roeber, and her husband Dana, of Southaven, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Katherine Turner and Abigail Turner, both of Meridianville, Alabama, and Ireland Roeber, and Leyton Roeber, both of Southaven, Mississippi. Dixon, age 97, of Shelbyville Tennessee, passed away on Friday the 7th of January at the Lynchburg Nursing Center in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Her graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Monday the 10th of January. The service will be held at the Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Cemetery located at 660 Thompson Lane in Nashville, Tennessee. She was born December 25th 1914 to the late W. B. and Vera Elizabeth Cooper Hill. Her husband Clarence Lindel Dixon preceded her in Death. She is survived by her son C.L. “Buddy” Dixon and his wife Martha G. Dixon of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; four grandchildren David R. Dixon and his wife Kristen of Houston, Texas, Marthalyn Weil and husband Bob of Oswego, Kansas, Anne-Marie McMichael and husband Ed of Houston, Texas, and Elizabeth Anne McGee and husband Jason of Burleson, Texas; thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She retired from Cain-Sloan in Nashville after 28 years. Upon her retirement, she returned to Shelbyville in 1984 she worked for several years at Wal-Mart in Shelbyville. She was a member of Fairlane Church of Christ. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. She was born December 31, 1938, in Bedford County, to the late Raleigh Sutton and Carrie Lou McChristian. She was a homemaker and member of Belleview Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Richard Louis Streeter, and his fiancée, Debbie, of Shelbyville, and a sister, Virginia King, of Shelbyville. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Wednesday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. She was born April 16, 1932, in Alabama, to the late Velmer and Arminta Miller Curbow. She was retired from Empire Pencil Company, a charter member of the Woman of The Moose, and attended the Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Winn, in 1998, and a niece, Marcia Lynn Moore. She is survived by her a brother, Howard Curbow, of Shelbyville, and two sisters, Emma Armstrong, and her husband Maurice, of Eagleville, and Freda Alford, and her husband Avery, of Shelbyville; six nieces, Gina Curbow Arwood, Tammy Alford Baker, Brenda Winn Overcast, Janette Whaley, Julie Holt, and Gail McCormick; five nephews, Kenneth Armstrong, Jimmy Armstrong, Donald Curbow, Daniel Curbow, and Dale Winn; numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be 6 PM Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Dr. Drew Hayes will officiate. Visitation will be 4-6 PM Wednesday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. She was born February 18, 1959, in Madison, Tennessee, to Carl and Merilyn George Cash of Shelbyville. She was a former Golden Eaglette and member of the 1974 State Championship Team. She was employed with the Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Department of over six years. She loved all sports and was a member of First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Aaron West, of Shelbyville; a son, Kyle Clanton, and his wife Amy, of Shelbyville, and a daughter, Deana Kristen Prosser, and her husband Shannon, of Shelbyville; two brothers, Phillip Cash, and his wife Kathy, of Shelbyville, and Dale Cash, and his wife Nan, of Brentwood; five grandchildren, Lucas Clanton, Kylee Clanton, Levi Clanton, Kelbie Prosser, and Shayla Prosser. Funeral services will be 2 PM Thursday, January 27, 2011, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 11 AM Thursday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. He was born March 27, 1922, in Bedford County, to the late Ed Henson and Julia Ann Blackman Cook. He was a self employed businessman and veteran of World War II. He served in the South Pacific Theatre with the 483rd Anti- Aircraft Artillery Unit. He fought on Iwo Jima and witnessed the raising of the Victory Flag as photographed by Joe Rosenthal. He raised German Shepherds for the Vietnam War, his favorite being Booger Man. His last comforting companion was named Baby Girl. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Moore Cook, in 1991, and three brothers, Buck Cook, Earl Cook, and Herman Morgan. He was also preceded in death by three brother-in laws, Cecil Ray, Arthur McKamey, and Dick Thorpe. He is survived by a daughter, Vickie Peacock, and her husband Richard, and a son, Crawford Henson, Jr, and his wife Shirley, both of Shelbyville; a brother, Harvey Cook, and his wife Linda; five sisters, Sylvia Ray, Cookie Adcock, and her husband Whitey, Margaret McKamey, Vivian Thorpe, and Barbara Westmoreland, all of Shelbyville; six grandchildren, Julie Lynn Peacock, Stochia Jane Henson-Harper, Ricky Peacock, Eric Peacock, Joey Henson, and Clarissa Estes; eight great grandchildren, Caleb Peacock, Nathan Peacock, Alyssa Peacock, Autumn Harper, Ashley Harper, Shelby Henson, Dylan Estes, and Ethan Estes. She left behind her beloved husband Jerry Wayne Mitchell, her loving children Frank Thomas Lee, Catherine Grace Lee, Charlene Renee Dodson. Her beloved step-children Kristin Ghee, Jamie Waters, Miranda Uphan. She also will be missed by all of her grandchildren.
