Advance Notice and Access Guide for “ISSP International Workshop on Soft Matter Physics” [ISSP/SOFT2010]

Important Places • The Workshops will take place in Lecture Hall of ISSP A632 (Aug. 9-12 and Aug. 25-27). • On Aug. 24, the place will be changed to a room in another building: IPMU Lecture Hall. (See page 8 ) • On Aug. 23, Special Intensive Lectures by Profs. Gompper, Angelova, and Boxer will be held in Room No. 301 of Inter-Faculty Building 1, Ochanomizu University. (See pages 6 and 7) • Participants can use Rooms A514a for discussions. A615 can also be used, unless it is used for lecture. • A coffee room on the 5th floor A512 is assigned for the participants of the Workshop. You can take free coffee/tea there.

Presentation Material We post the presentation material (PowerPoint or PDF file) of your lecture and/or talk on the Workshop web page. After your presentation, our staff will ask you to copy your file into a USB memory.

1 Access/Transportation

Location of ISSP Institute for Solid State Physics [ISSP], our workshop site, is located in Campus of University of . It takes about one hour from central part of Tokyo. The railway map below shows the locations of ISSP [1], Ochanomizu University (8/23 lecture site) [3], Narita and Tokyo International Airports, Tokyo Stations.

2 [a] Access from to ISSP From Tokyo Station, we have access for (Super-express trains), Limited Express to Narita Airport (“Narita Express”), and other local trains. To come to ISSP from Tokyo Station, 1. Take the Yamamote Line or Keihin-Tohoku Line Local Train to Akihabara. 2. Transfer at Akihabara to Express (TX) Line and take local trains or semi-rapid trains to -Campus [Rapid trains do not stop at Kashiwanoha-Campus stations]. 3. Take the Bus (Tobu bus): see [b]

[b] Bus From Kashiwanoha-Campus Station to ISSP From Kashiwanoha-Campus Station to ISSP, it takes 30 minutes on foot. We recommend you to take a bus. A) “TOBU Bus” – When you go out of Kashiwanoha-Campus Station from the West Exit, and you will find Bus Stops. Please find buses with No. “西柏 03”, “西柏 04”, or “西柏 10”. Then get off at Todai-mae (東大前) . The fare (160 yen) can be paid either by IC-card (, PASMO) or cash. B) Shuttle bus is also available in the morning and evening. See page 11. C) On taxi, it cost around 5 minutes and 800 yen.

[c] Transportation to Nara We assume that some of the participants of ISSP/SOFT2010 will also attend to “International Symposium on Soft Matter Physics 2010 (17th-20th Aug.)” in Nara. We can get to reach Nara by using Tokaido Shinkansen (Super-express trains). From Tokyo Station, 1. Take the JR-Tokaido Nozomi Super-Express Train (Nozomi) to Kyoto. Nozomi is running very frequently (every 20 min). You can buy tickets at the teller window. 2. Transfer at Kyoto to JR-Nara Line local train (Platform No. 8,9, and 10), and you can get to JR-Nara Station. From JR-Nara Station, you can get to the conference site by bus or taxi. 3 Access from Narita Airport to ISSP

From Narita Airport to Kashiwa Station By train: Keissei Narita Sky Access Line Narita Airport—Shin-Kamagaya 新鎌ケ谷—Kashiwa 柏 (40-50min) 1.Take the Narita SkyAccess Line, Express Train to Shin-Kamagaya. (880 yen) From Narita Airport Station: Ride from Platform No. 1 (Keisei Line) From Airport Terminal 2 Station: Ride from Platform No. 1 (Keisei Line) – (Be careful not to take the Limited Express “Skyliner”!) 2. Change to Tobu-Noda line for Kashiwa (240yen) At the Shin-Kamagaya Station, ride from Platform No. 2 (Tobu Line)

Access from Kashiwa Station to ISSP By taxi: Please mention “Tohdai” or “Tokyo Daigaku” (University of Tokyo in Japanese) to the driver. About 20 min. ride, about 2,000 yen. Please show this paper to the driver. He should know where to take you.

By bus: Take a bus for KOKURITSU GAN SENTA (National Cancer Center in Japanese). Bus No.01 or 44 at bus terminal #2 at Kashiwa Station West Exit. Get off at either TOHDAI-MAE or the last stop, KOKURITSU GAN SENTA. Bus No. 44 does not stop at TODAI-MAE. About 25 min. ride, 280 yen. Pay when you get off. Walk a few minutes to ISSP.

4 Access between Haneda (Tokyo International Airport) and ISSP Bus is available. There is a bus stop “National Cancer Center (国立がんセンタ ー)”, which is close to ISSP [about 500m]. Please refer to the map in page 8. From Bus stop No. 13 in Haneda International Airport [both in 1st and 2nd terminals], find the bus to “Kashiwa Station West (柏駅西口)”. Paying 1,500 yen just when getting on the bus, you can get direct access to National Cancer Center (please do not miss this stop), which is the first stop of the bus. The closest station to Ochanomizu University is Myōgadani 茗荷谷 in of Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line.

A) From Tokyo Station (JR) to Ochanomizu University: Going out of the “Underground Marunouchi Central Ticket Gate (丸の内地下中央口)”, please transfer to Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line. Take the trains from Platform No. 2 (toward Ikebukuro), and get off at Myōgadani. B) From Narita Airport to Ochanomizu University: Uou can have direct access to Tokyo Station by “Narita Express”. From Tokyo Station, please change to Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line according to A). C) From Haneda International Airport to Ochanomizu University: Take to Hamamatsucho 浜松町, and change to the to Tokyo, then take Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line according to A). D) From Ochanomizu University to ISSPm: Ochanomizu University to ISSP: Take Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line to Kōrakuen 後楽園. Following the Transfer guide sign in the station, you can reach Kasuga 春日 of Toei Oedo Line, and then go to Shin-Okachimachi 新御徒町 to change to Tsukuba Express (TX). Getting on a Local or Semi-Rapid Train, you can reach Kashiwanoha-Campus 柏の葉キャンパス, the closest station to ISSP.

7 Campus Information

IPMU (8/24)

IPMU, the workshop site for Aug. 24, is the next building to ISSP. The Lecture Hall (shown in the right picture) is on the ground floor of IPMU. The registration desk for participants of the 2nd week will be set in front of the Lecture Hall.

8 Access to the Guesthouse of Kashiwa Campus

Please read the following information if you stay at the guesthouse on Kashiwa Campus of University of Tokyo. If you arrive before 16:00 on weekdays, please visit the International Liaisons Office (Room A307, 3rd floor, ISSP Main Building) during the office hours (10:00 – 16:00 weekdays). They will give you the keys and some information about the accommodation. If you arrive after 16:00 or on weekends, please pick up your package from a gatekeeper at the gate-house by telling your name. Your package contains the keys of guesthouse (one is for the entrance door and the other is for the room door.)

There is a guardsman on duty at the entrance gate, 24 hours a day. If you have problem, please contact him.

Guesthouse Payment: We will ask participants staying at the on-site guesthouse to pay the fee in Japanese Yen cash. Those who get support from ISSP also have to pay it, since the fee is not automatically subtracted.

9 Other useful information

Shops and ATM around ISSP • Lalaport Large shipping center in front of Kashiwanoha-Campus Station. There are many restaurants, super market, and others inside.

• Convenience Stores near Kashiwa campus FamilyMart [500m East, closest to ISSP] LAWSON [700m West] Seven-Eleven [1km West]

• ATM Many ATM’s in do not accept credit card issued abroad, but you can use some cards at “Seven Bank” ATM inside the Seven-Eleven Convenience Store near the Campus (See the map in page 6). Accepted cards are VISA, PLUS, MasterCard, Maestro, Cirrus, American Express, JCB, and Union Pay.

IC cards for public transport [Suica/Pasmo] “Suica” (or “Pasmo” with the same function) is a rechargeable smart card, which can be used to ride on trains and buses, in areas around Tokyo. It can also be used for shopping in some shops. Simply touching it on the gate in the train station (card reader in the buses) when you ride on and get off, you can pay the fare. You can buy Suica (Pasmo) in the train station ticket issuing machines with 500 yen deposit (this deposit charge will be paid back to you after you returned it in some other station).
