As part of the preparations for the 2015 General Elections, the Commission has demonstrated its commitment to informing stakeholders and the general public through a range of activities, and engagements with different strata of society with the aim of fostering confidence and participation in the continuing effort to build an enduring democratic culture. To increase eligible citizens’ participation in exercising their franchise, polling units within, or very close to the premises of politicians, traditional rulers, religious bodies, state and local authorities, private properties, etc., as well as in open spaces, are relocated to public buildings, preferably public schools. Thus, the publication of the 2015 Polling Unit Directory (updated January 2015) by the Commission is another step towards providing valid information to the stakeholders and the public alike. The Directory lists the Local Government Areas (LGAs) of each State or Area Councils (ACs) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Registration Areas (RAs) of States or Wards of the FCT, as well as polling units contained therein. This Directory wiII not only help to address the Polling Unit information needs of political parties, developmental partners, Civil Society Organizations, Ministries, Departments, Agencies, the Press and other Stakeholders, but also serve as a reference document for research and information. This publication is also designed to help electoral officials irrespective of where they are deployed to effectively perform their duties. I hope that the Directory will also help to influence and educate election officials in the administration of elections in the country. Prof. Attahiru M. The decision by the Commission was taken in its efforts to further ensure transparency in the electoral process and provide a level playing field for free and fair elections that are credible and acceptable to all. The Delimitation Division of the Electoral Operations Department has worked very hard, together with the Electoral Operations Departments of each of the thirty-six (36) States and the Federal Capital Territory, to significantly improve the accuracy of this Directory. The Commission would like to express its profound gratitude to the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) as well as the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia for providing technical assistance, through the provision of a specialist in Geographic Information System (GIS) and Data Management, Mr. Archie A.A. Delaney, Sr., who played a major role in the successful completion of this project. The fact that the Directory was generated from the Delimitation Database being constructed is very significant and signals a paradigm shift in the way the Commission undertakes its major activities. E -mail address: [email protected] Abstract Building raw materials and processed products can vary greatly in radionuclide contents depending on the character and the geology of the their origin. 160 samples of Brick block and 160 samples of Concrete block for constructing dwellings were collected across the Ekiti State, Nigeria. The activity concentrations of 40 K, 226 Ra and 232 Th in the Brick block and Concrete block samples were determined by using gamma-ray spectrometry using a 7.62 cm × 7.62 cm NaI(Tl) detector of dimension, housed in a 6 cm thick lead shield. The results show that the mean activity concentration values of 572.6 ± 175.9 Bq kg -1, 47.9 ± 9.8 Bq kg -1 and 63.8 ± 9.4 Bq kg -1 for 40 K, 226 Ra and 232 Th respectively in concrete blocks are higher compared to the the mean activity concentration values 351.1 ± 3.1 Bq kg -118.7 ± 6.2 Bq kg -1 and 39.8 ± 3.5 Bq kg -1obtained in brick blocks. The absorbed dose rate, Annual dose equivalent, the external hazard and the qualification coefficients were determined.

Received 2 June, 2020; Accepted 8 August, 2020 This study investigated the impact of English Language proficiency testing on the pronunciation performance of undergraduates in South-west. Nigeria. The study was a descriptive survey research design. The target population size was 1243 (200-level) undergraduates drawn from eight tertiary institutions. The instruments used for data collection were the English Language Proficiency Test and Pronunciation Test. The English Language proficiency test was used to measure the performance of students in English Language and was adopted from the Post-UTME past questions from Babcock University Admissions Office on Post Unified Tertiary Admissions and Matriculation Examinations screening exercise (Post-UTME) for undergraduates in English and Linguistics. The test contains 20 objective English questions with optional answers. The instruments were validated through experts’ advice as the items in the instrument are considered appropriate in terms of subject content and instructional objectives while Cronbach alpha technique was used to estimate the reliability coefficient of the English Proficiency test, a value of 0.883 was obtained.

    ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTORS EDITORS MARINGE, Felix is Head of Research at the School of Education and Assistant Dean for Internationalization and Partnerships in the Faculty of Humanities, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. With Dr Emmanuel Ojo, he was host organizer of the Higher Education Research and Policy Network (HERPNET) 10th Regional Higher Education Conference on Sustainable Transformation and Higher Education held in South Africa in September 2015. Felix has the unique experience of working in higher education in three different countries, Zimbabwe; the United Kingdom and in South Africa. Over a thirty year period, Felix has published 60 articles in scholarly journals, written and co-edited 4 books, has 15 chapters in edited books and contributed to national and international research reports. Felix is a full professor of higher education at the School of Education, University of the Witwatersrand (WSoE) specialising in research around leadership, internationalisation and globalisation in higher education. OJO, Emmanuel is lecturer at the School of Education, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He is actively involved in higher education research. About 84% of the global land loss has been attributed to erosion. Accordingly, erosion is one of the most significant environmental problems worldwide. In this paper, Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) were used to assess the impact of soil erosion on residential areas of Efon-Alaayee Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. Soil erodability, slope, land cover and support practice factors were the variables used to investigate the impact of soil erosion in the study area. As an output, a soil loss map was developed and the total land area at risk of being lost to erosion was estimated from the analysis. The soil loss map was calculated to be between 0 to > 756.60 tons per hectare (31.9 sq.km) in a year. The soil map was classified into four categories based on erosion risk classes, namely: slight, moderate, high and very high. The result indicates that 21.8 sq.km area is under slight class, 6.5 sq.km area is under moderate class, 2.7 sq.km is under high class while, 0.54km sq.km area is under very high class.

One major unpopular reason for inefficient service delivery was poor administration in the Local Government as a result of unbalanced distribution of personnel by cadre and gender in each local government in the state. This had not only hampered local government administration but also impeded adequate provision of expected services to local populace in line with its mandate as enshrined in the fourth schedule of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Application of Statistical analysis using Chi-square Test of Independence showed that distribution of employees by cadre depends on local government in post in the year under study.

Arising from the plan of the proposal, strategies of peacebuilding were outlined to be useful before communal conflict as peace-making mechanisms and after conflict as peace-keeping techniques (Barnett, Kim, O.Donnell & Sitea, 2007). The crux of this paper is that, in spite of these peace enhancement strategies, most developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America are yet to enjoy long- term, sustained and durable peace (Okoro, 2014; & MacGinty, 2013).

In Nigeria, it is one of the most important pathogen and a frequent micro-organism obtained from clinical samples in the microbiology laboratory. Data on clonal identities and diversity, surveillance and new approaches in the molecular epidemiology of this pathogen in Nigeria are limited. This study was conducted for a better understanding on the epidemiology of S. aureus and to enhance therapy and management of patients in Nigeria. A total of 54 S. aureus isolates identified by phenotypic methods and obtained from clinical samples and nasal samples of healthy medical personnel in Ondo and Ekiti States, South-Western Nigeria were analysed. Typing was based on antibiotic susceptibility pattern (antibiotyping), polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphisms (PCR-RFLPs) of the coagulase gene and pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE).
