The LEGOLAND Discovery Center, billed as “the ultimate indoor LEGO playground,” opens April 12 at the Shops at Rivercenter mall.

The new attraction features 10 play zones, two rides, a 4D cinema and a massive LEGO display showcasing San Antonio’s landmarks.

There’s a rotating replica of the Tower of the Americas, tiny Lego figures cheering in stands at the , boats drifting along the River Walk and historical re-enactors at the Alamo.

The lighting around the display changes from day to night, and it will be updated with new features during events like Fiesta. The display includes more than 1.5 million bricks.

“It was built with locals in mind,” marketing manager Chase Hathaway said.

The center is next to the SEA LIFE Aquarium, which will open in May, according to its website. Visitors will walk through an underwater tunnel, watch feeding demonstrations and look at hundreds of species of marine life, including a blacktip reef shark the city voted to name “Selena.”

15/16 Together, the attractions span three floors and 65,000 square feet. Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp., a New York-based real estate investment firm that owns the mall, is working with U.K.-based Merlin Entertainments on the attractions.
