______At the Battle of Trafalgar (21st October 1805) William served on the HMS Britannia, commanded by Captain Charles BULLEN.
The ship was launched at Portsmouth Dockyard in 1762 and had 100 guns and a crew of 850. During the battle, HMS Britannia was in Nelsons Division, 10 crew were killed and 42 injured. William LATTER was 15 years old at the time of the Battle of Trafalgar when he was serving on HMS Britannia as Boy 3rd Class.
28 Dec 2009 Descendants of John LATTER Page 5 William served on HMS Britannia from 7th May 1803 to 18 June 1806 as a boy and was at the Battle of Trafalgar. He went on to serve on the HMS Royal George as a boy from 19th June 1806 to 12th May 1809. He was discharged on 12th May 1809 when HMS Royal George was paid off. HMS Britannia - Royal Naval Man of War, HMS Britannia, First Rate Ship of the Line with 100 guns, ordered 25th April 1751 and built at Portsmouth dockyard, launched 19th October 1762. Renamed in 1810 as HMS Princess Royal in 1812 renamed HMS St George and in 1819 again changed to HMS Barfleur and finally broken up in 1825.
