THE PROVIDENCE BRUINS MELT THE ICECAPS, 4-1 ST. JOHN’S - The puck dropped at 7:30 pm at the Mile One Center to start the Providence Bruins’s second game against the IceCaps this week. The Providence Bruins came out confident in the first after a 5-4 Overtime victory against the IceCaps last night. Both teams battled through the first, which saw three different fights. Ben Youds finally broke the scoreless tie at the 18:16 mark with the assists going to Casto and Simonelli. St. John’s went into the second frame of the game eager to get on the board. John Albert of the St. John’s IceCaps tied the score 1-1 at the 19:04 mark. Both teams struggled to break the tie through the remainder of the 2nd period, but were unsuccessful. With the score tied at one, the Providence Bruins and the IceCaps entered the third battling for the lead. 7:11 into the 3rd Ethan Werek found the back of the net with the assists going to Randell and Cross. About two minutes later, Jordan Caron nets a third for the Providence Bruins with the assist going to Alexander Khokhlachev. Matt Lindblad scored the final goal of the night in the empty St. John’s net at the 19:21 mark with help from Steve Eminger. BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS TOP P-BRUINS, 4-3 Providence, RI - The P-Bruins held an advantage in shots on net the entire game, but the Sound Tigers walked away with the 4-3 win, extending Providence’s four game skid. Sebastian Collberg struck back to tie the game at one apiece with just under seven minutes left in the second period. Carkner and Whitney were credited with the assists. 17:55 in to the period, Justin Vaive scored on the power play with Chris Casto in the box for interference to give the Sound Tigers the 2-1 lead. Vaive tipped Pulock’s slap shot from the blue line. Noel Acciari and Mike Halmo fought with under two minutes left in the second period, and the P-Bruins walked away with the man-up advantage. Max Talbot capitalized on the resulting power play, his shot finding its way past Gibson with under a minute left to play. In addition to tying the game, the power play goal was Talbot’s first goal in a P-Bruins jersey (5th point). Austin Czarnik wasted no time, scoring 59 seconds into the third period for the go-ahead goal.

After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. 4-2 LOSS ENDS PROVIDENCE POINT STREAK Providence, RI - After a scoreless first period, the Falcons got on the board 8:18 into the second. Mauermann and DiSalvatore notched goals in the second period to give Springfield a 2-0 lead. It was a feisty period of hockey with 11 penalties issued in the first 20 minutes of play. Colton Hargrove dropped the gloves with Selleck in the 11th minute of play. Khokhlachev cut the Falcon’s lead in half 13 seconds into the power play. Seth Griffith dished the puck to Ben Yours, who fired a shot from the blue line, with Khokhlachev’s deflection finding the back of the net. Tension ran high in the second period with the refs needing to separate the two teams on multiple occasions. Seth Griffith tied at 2-2 the game on the only power play of the third period. David Pastrnak and Colby Cave tallied the assists. This was Pastrnak’s first game with the Providence Bruins during the 2015-16 season on a conditioning assignment after having suffered a fractured foot while up with the Boston Bruins. Monardo scored the go ahead goal 18:12 into the third when his snipe from the top of the circle soared over Subban’s glove. Ex-Providence Bruin Craig Cunningham potted the empty netter a minute later to give the Falcons the 4-2 win. This loss ends the P-Bruins 9 game point streak. Griffith has recorded at least a point in 6 of the last 8 games and has gone 5-8-13 in the month of December.

GRIFFITH SCORES TWICE IN 4-2 P-BRUINS WIN OVER MANCHESTER PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence Bruins scored three goals in the first-- two on the same power play-- and topped the Manchester Monarchs on Friday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Seth Griffith scored twice. It was an atypical first period for both teams, which worked in Providence’s favor. The Bruins scored three times, and there were two fights in the frame. Ryan Spooner scored his third goal in the last two games when he weaved through the slot after a hustle play from Justin Florek to set it all up at 8:56. The P-Bruins failed to convert on their first power play, but were back on the man advantage only eight seconds later. Andrew Crescenzi got a kneeing major when he hit Joe Morrow (who left the game and did not return), and the home team capitalized twice. Griffith scored the team’s first goal on the power play, burying a Chris Casto rebound that came from the opposite side of the zone at 17:05. Ethan Werek scored his first goal of the calendar year after missing nine games, putting the Bruins up 3-0. Like Griffith, he also scored on a rebound from the opposite side of a previous Providence bid (from Brian Ferlin, who forced a turnover). In the middle stanza, Providence killed off 1:40 of two different 5-on-3 stretches, once in the first three minutes of the period, and another 12 minutes later. Manchester was able to outshoot the home team 16-6 in the period, but didn’t generate many quality scoring chances.
