DHISAI - Awareness Campaign for Admissions to Nits and Iits Through JEE DHISAI - Awareness campaign for admissions to NITs and IITs through JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an all India common entrance examination which is conducted for admission to various engineering courses. JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is conducted in two parts: JEE-Main and JEE- Advanced. JEE-Main is the exam necessary to get admission in NITs (National Institutes of Technology), IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology), and other CFTIs (Central Funded Technical Institutes). Students clearing JEE- Main will be allowed to appear for JEE-Advanced. JEE-Advanced is for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), and the Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad. This booklet is for explaining to the students currently in Class 12 about the importance of these premier institutes and will also serve as a guide to help them prepare for the entrance exams to secure admission into these institutes. This is useful for students looking to pursue their undergraduate degree in Engineering at premier institutes like Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and National Institutes of Technology (NITs). There are 18 IITs spread across various locations in India like Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mandi, Mumbai, Patna, Ropar, Roorkee and Varanasi, and there are around 31 NITs; one in almost every state and Union-Territory, with those in Trichy, Warangal, Surathkal and Calicut being the highest ranked among them. National Institutes of Technology: The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are a group of government funded engineering colleges in India. During their inception decades ago, all NITs were referred to as Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) and were taken care of by their respective state governments. These RECs later changed into NITs and now come under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi. These Institutes of National Importance were founded to promote regional diversity and multi-cultural understanding in India. A total of thirty-one autonomous institutes are there. They are located in each state/union-territory of India. About NIT Trichy NIT Trichy possesses an 800-acre campus, located on the outskirts of Tiruchirappalli, and is one of the most coveted educational institutions in the country, attracting students from across the country as well as from abroad. While it primarily focuses on Engineering and Architecture, there is a strong emphasis on Science, Humanities and Management studies too. NIT Trichy is ranked as one of the topmost NITs, and was ranked 8th in the 'OUTLOOK' Best Engineering Colleges, 2016. It also received the recognition of ‘The University of the Year’ at the FICCI higher education summit held in New Delhi in 2017. The following is a list of top 10 Engineering institutes in India: (Source: OUTLOOK magazine, Best Engineering colleges in India 2016) Location of NITS throughout India 1) IIT Delhi 2) IIT Bombay 3) IIT Kharagpur 4) IIT Madras 5) IIT Kanpur 6) BITS, Pilani 7) IIT Guwahati 8) NIT Trichy 9) NIT Suratkal 10) NIT Warangal NIT Trichy is at par with a few IITs and is way ahead of many other IITs which are not mentioned in the list above. To get admission into NIT Trichy, the candidate must excel in JEE-Main. About JEE-Main: JEE-Main, conducted by CBSE generally takes place in the month of April. The candidates have an option of taking the exam either online or offline (pen and paper). JEE-Main will test the candidate's proficiency in class 11 and class 12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The exam mainly focuses on the CBSE curriculum of the above mentioned subjects. Every year, around 13 lakh students appear for JEE-Main. Around 23,000 students are admitted into NITs from all over India. Similar to the reservation system adopted for admission in most of the State colleges, a category based reservation scheme is available for JEE also. The percentage reservation for various categories is as follows: GENERAL (from OBC-NCL (other SC (Scheduled ST (Scheduled the common merit Backward Class- Caste) Tribe) list) Non-Creamy Layer) 50.5% 27% 15% 7.5% Within each of these four categories, 3% of horizontal reservation is available for Physically Challenged candidates. OBC candidates whose parents' total gross annual income is above 6 lakhs for a period of three consecutive years belong to the 'Creamy Layer', and so are excluded from the benefits of belonging to the Other Backward Class. Such candidates will fall under the General Category only. Other than the above-mentioned reservations, there is a state wise reservation for students pursuing Higher Secondary school education in the respective state. 50% of the total number of seats in any of the NITs is reserved for students belonging to the home state. Fortunately, NIT Trichy is one of the best NITs in the country and students of Tamil Nadu have an extra edge over the students of other states to make it to NIT Trichy with ease. For students belonging to SC/ST category, NIT Trichy has a dedicated ‘SC/ST Cell’ to aid the students who require financial support. Also, various scholarship schemes are available with the state government for the students belonging to Tamil Nadu, who require a financial aid. The SC/ST cell of NIT Trichy also promotes various activities like orientation program for Tamil medium students to improve their language and other soft skills. Also, free training on the use of various engineering softwares and coaching for civil services examinations are provided. Generally, there is an opinion among Tamil Nadu State Board students that they might face challenges after joining NIT Trichy since most of the all India entrance examinations primarily focuses on the CBSE curriculum. This opinion is completely false, as NIT Trichy has always had and continues to have lots of students from Tamil Nadu State Board background passing out with flying colours. The best time to start preparation is at the beginning of class 11. But it is never too late to start the preparation if you are highly dedicated and motivated. The candidate must primarily focus on NCERT textbooks (CBSE syllabus), based on which most of the questions will appear in JEE- Main. Also, sufficient practice of previous year's question papers is also highly recommended. Clearing JEE is difficult, but it is an achievable feat. Why NIT-Trichy? NIT Trichy provides a whole new range of opportunities for a student to improve his/her soft skills by making him/her a better manager than a mere engineer. The need of the hour is not just to develop good engineers, but also better professionals who possess good managerial skills. NIT Trichy opens up avenues for students to discover their passion by taking part in organizing various cultural and technical festivals. Another important aspect that makes NIT Trichy stand out is the fee structure. The institute fee per semester is Rs 72100 (includes tuition fee) and the hostel fee is also around Rs 31250, including mess fee. The government spends a lot of money on every student to shape him/her into a better professional. The institute fee structure for SC/ST candidates is lower than the normal fee, wherein they are exempted from paying the tuition fee of Rs 62500. Student loans can also be availed by every single student with ease. The campus has integrated bank facilities to assist students to avail the loan. The process to avail the loan is also very simple. Only the top rankers of JEE-Main are assured admission into NIT Trichy, as it is one of the topmost NITs. The competition to get into NIT Trichy is also very high. So, only the best minds in the country make it into NIT Trichy, which in turn ensures excellent student quality. Required reservation for students belonging to OBC and SC/ST categories are also made available to facilitate their admission to NIT Trichy. Every year 814 students are admitted into NIT Trichy, of which 50% of the seats are reserved for students of Tamil Nadu. The labs and library facilities are available to the students 24X7, which any motivated student can make use of for research. The Internet Lab can be used for the recreational purpose as well. The highly qualified faculty members personally take care of the needs and demands of every single student with compassion. NIT Trichy consistently sets a record when it comes to placements and all major industries focus on hiring its students, due to their promising depth of knowledge and experience in various subjects. NIT Trichy has a dedicated Training and Placement department, which organizes and coordinates Campus Placement Programs, to ensure a job to every aspirant. The overall placement record for the year 2014-15 is around 90%, which means that around 90% of the candidates who appeared for placements were ensured a job in reputed firms. Most of the successful industrialists and entrepreneurs who are alumni of NIT Trichy are in constant touch with the students, helping them realize the importance of Research and Development in Industries. Some of the successful alumni of NIT Trichy are 1. N. Chandrasekaran — CEO, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. 2. T. V. Narendran — CEO, Tata Steel Ltd. 3. N. Kamakoti — CEO and MD, City Union Bank 4. Air Marshall Kanakaraj 5. C. Kandasamy, GM, National Highways Authority of India 6. Vishnu V Nair, I.A.S Shown here is the list of companies that visit our campus every year for placements. How to take admission in NIT-Trichy? The aspiring candidate must appear and clear the Joint Entrance Examination (Main), conducted by CBSE. A merit list (All India Rank) for admission to NITs will be prepared by CSAB.

  • Compendium SDG Goal 3
JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSS AHER), Mysore, India Compendium SDG Goal 3 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 3 GOOD HEALTH AND WELLBEING 1 1. Introduction to the goal Poor health constitutes suffering and deprivation of the most fundamental kind. Over the years, significant strides have been made in increasing life expectancy and reducing some of the common killers associated with child and maternal mortality. Despite global progress, an increasing proportion of child deaths occur in sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia. Globally, the incidence of major infectious diseases has declined since 2000, including HIV/AIDS, malaria, and TB, but the challenge of these and new pandemics remains in many regions of the world. We have made immense progress globally in finding newer treatments, vaccines, and technologies for healthcare, but universal affordable access to healthcare remains a challenge. Not only does disease impact the well-being of an individual, but it also burdens family and public resources, weakens societies, and squanders potential. The health and wellbeing of people at all ages therefore lies at the heart of sustainable development. Protection from disease is not only fundamental to survival, but it enables opportunity for everyone and strengthens economic growth and prosperity. The international community, through Goal 3, has committed itself to a global effort to eradicate disease, strengthen treatment and healthcare, and address new and emerging health issues. It calls for innovation, and research in these areas to further enhance public policy efforts. A holistic approach to better health will require ensuring universal access to healthcare and to making medicine and vaccines affordable.
