SYNOPSIS Jay Robson, a famous British choreographer, is living the dream. Married to the two loves of his life, his wife and the art of dance, he has the blissful life most of us dream of...until a series of unfortunate events demonstrates the power of illness to impact your life and those around you. Faced with the horrors of life and loss, Jay escapes into fantasy, increasingly losing himself in the world of dance. Will he make it out alive? Or will he let go of those he loves in the battle to survive? A Screenplay, all rights reserved. “Great dancers are great because of their passion” Martha Graham. Director’s Vision Statement DOLPHINS IN THE SKY is inspired by real events – my own story. A few months ago while hard at work on another screenplay, I was unexpectedly diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer. That brush with death prompted me to write this script. Our film is not a grim representation or a campaign for this widespread deadly disease, but a socially impactful celebration of life. Important themes are explored and conveyed through the ups and downs of life; moments of laughter and humour will balance the sadness and the struggle for survival. As a filmmaker and writer who has often faced difficult situations, I bounced back, resolving to turn my personal and intimate experience into a film. Not only for the sake of my family, but also to shed light on this deadly disease by turning a dark, potentially depressing situation into a life affirming tale. DOLPHINS IN THE SKY will be purposeful, informative, educational, but more importantly it will take the audience on a unique, inspiring journey of self- discovery. We will raise important questions about the disease that takes one man’s life every hour in the UK. But ultimately, this is a film with plenty of heart, to remind us that, with the love and support of family and friends, we can turn any obstacle, even cancer, into a happy life. It is also my vision to create an engaging and entertaining film by juxtaposing family life, love, passion, relationships and the struggle between life and death. And we will weave in contemporary dance elements, choir songs and music, all set against the backdrop of the historical and colourful city of Bath. I will shoot DOLPHINS IN THE SKY with 2.35:1 aspect ratio to give it optimum production values and a larger than life, cinematic look suitable for theatrical release. We will start with gentle use of tracking, tripod and drone shots to establish a world of balance and happy family life. This will then make way for a very different shooting style, with lot of handheld shots to dramatize the struggle with cancer. This approach will enable the most effective storytelling, and will enhance our audience’s experience. Sound effects and the soundtrack will also have a key role to play in conveying the story's emotional impact, alongside the visuals. Dolphins In The Sky opens with a bright colour palette, reflecting the Robsons happy, harmonious world. This will contrast with the later, darker colours to convey the despair caused by Jay‘s unexpected cancer diagnosis. “Wherever my story takes me, however dark and difficult the theme, there is always some hope and redemption, not because readers like happy endings, but because I am an optimist at heart. I know the sun will rise in the morning, that there is a light at the end of every tunnel.” Michael Morpurgo DOLPHINS IN THE SKY CHOREOGRAPHER ANNABELLE LOPEZ OCHOE : Not Confirmed Annabelle is an award-winning and sought-after choreographer that has created works for 65 dance companies around the world. BALLADS AND LYRICS OF OLD FRANCE: WITH OTHER POEMS SPRING. CHARLES D’ORLEANS, 1391-1465. [The new-liveried year. - Sir Henry Wotton.] The year has changed his mantle cold Of wind, of rain, of bitter air; And he goes clad in cloth of gold, Of laughing suns and season fair; No bird or beast of wood or wold But doth with cry or song declare The year lays down his mantle cold. All founts, all rivers, seaward rolled, The pleasant summer livery wear, With silver studs on broidered vair; The world puts off its raiment old, The year lays down his mantle cold. RONDEL. CHARLES D’ORLEANS, 1391-1465. [To his Mistress, to succour his heart that is beleaguered by jealousy.] Strengthen, my Love, this castle of my heart, And with some store of pleasure give me aid, For Jealousy, with all them of his part, Strong siege about the weary tower has laid. Nay, if to break his bands thou art afraid, Too weak to make his cruel force depart, Strengthen at least this castle of my heart, And with some store of pleasure give me aid. Nay, let not Jealousy, for all his art Be master, and the tower in ruin laid, That still, ah Love! thy gracious rule obeyed. Advance, and give me succour of thy part; Strengthen, my Love, this castle of my heart. RONDEL. FRANCOIS VILLON, 1460 Goodbye! the tears are in my eyes; Farewell, farewell, my prettiest; Farewell, of women born the best; Good-bye! the saddest of good-byes. Farewell! with many vows and sighs My sad heart leaves you to your rest; Farewell! the tears are in my eyes; Farewell! from you my miseries Are more than now may be confessed, And most by thee have I been blessed, Yea, and for thee have wasted sighs; Goodbye! the last of my goodbyes.

  • Dance Top Ten for 2015
Dance Top 10 for 2015: Women had an outsized role on this year's list Aparna Ramaswamy, co-artistic director of Ragamala Dance, in "Song of the Jasmine." (Alice Gebura) Laura Molzahn With shows by Wendy Whelan in January, Carrie Hanson in March, Onye Ozuzu in August, Twyla Tharp in November, and the female choreographers of Hubbard Street's winter program this weekend — well, 2015 has proved the year of the woman. That shouldn't be remarkable, because women predominate in dance, but it is. You'll find an unusually high number of additional picks by women in my chronological list below of the top 10 dance works of the last year — along with some fine representatives of the other sex. "Song of the Jasmine," Ragamala Dance, April at the Museum of Contemporary Art: Minneapolis-based mother-daughter team Ranee and Aparna Ramaswamy, collaborating with innovative composer-saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa, commingled jazz, carnatic music and bharata natyam dance in this synergistic, utterly contemporary evening-length piece. As a performer, Ramaswamy elicited the essence of the feminine; moving precisely, delicately, she used her hands and face so wholeheartedly you could smell heavenly jasmine yourself. "A Streetcar Named Desire," Scottish Ballet, May at the Harris Theater: In a brilliantly structured reimagining of the Tennessee Williams classic, choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, aided by theater and film director Nancy Meckler, wasted not a moment or a step as she created empathy with Blanche (no easy task) and with the story's gay lovers (unseen in the play). In this lush, emotional work — Lopez Ochoa's first full-length narrative ballet — the sparing use of point work gave it all the more impact.

How to Have a Happy Life Page 1 printer friendly July - August 2003 Search our site here... GO! How to Have a Happy Life our site web We always wish to have a happy life, but what do we really mean when we say "happy"? And will all the good intentions we have bring us happiness? Let us contemplate the wisdom of an enlightend master, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, to help us focus on what we really mean and how to achieve it. This is what he says: Happiness does not only come from achievement. When you were a child you were simply happy. So that is your nature. And every moment, with every single action, we are all seeking to be happy because it is the original nature. You were taught about philosophies, gods, heaven and hell, but nobody taught you to be happy. If you go against your own nature to be happy, you will never get anywhere. And to be happy is not the ultimate aspect of life. To be happy is the fundamental aspect of life. If you are not happy, what else can you do with your life? Only if you are happy, can other great possibilities arise in your life. The first and most fundamental responsibility for a human being is to become joyous being himself or herself. It doesn't matter what you are pursuing in your life, whether it is business, money, power, education, service or something else, you are doing so because somewhere deep inside you is a feeling that this will bring you happiness.

Chapter 1 investigates how to reconcile the Procreation Asymmetry with our intuitions about another recalcitrant problem case in population ethics: Derek Parfit’s Non‑Identity Problem.

  • Ballet Hispanico's El Beso
http://fashionreverie.com/?p=9133 Ballet Hispanico’s El Beso April 27, 2014 by William S. Gooch Gustavo Sansano”s “El Beso” Ballet Hispanico’s season at the Joyce Theatre clearly demonstrates that the company under the helm of Eduardo Vilario is evolving in a direction that expands beyond the traditional Latin themes that the company had become associated under its founder Tina Ramirez. Some arts pundits may say this is a step in the right direction, while others might champion a return to the tried and true. The real test of this directional shift is audience reaction. And based on the cheers and bravos on Ballet Hispanico’s opening night at the Joyce, Vilario has found a choreographic revitalization that has audience appeal. Two of the pieces in the mixed bill on the Opening Night program have been reviewed in a previous Fashion Reverie review, so the focus of this review will concentrate mostly on Ballet Hispanico’s new work, El Beso. In the vein of Twyla Tharp’s Push Comes to Shove, Gustavo Ramirez Sansano’s El Beso with costumes by Angel Sanchez, like many choreographers of his ilk, ingeniously combine dance vocabulary from a wide range of dance styles and idioms. There are nods to Graham, Cunningham, Tharp, Horton, lyrical jazz, classical ballet, with a little Forsythe thrown in for good measure. This hodgepodge of seemingly diverse dance styles requires dancers that have incredible versatility and have the technical dexterity and experience working in this dance hybrid. Ballet Hispanico’s current rosters of dancers are definitely up to the challenges of Sansano’s choreography.
