Audrina Patridge Says Cameras Are Off and Love Life Is On
Audrina Patridge Says Cameras Are Off and Love Life Is On VH1 decided not to renew Audrina Patridge self-titled reality show for a second season, but Patridge couldn’t be happier as the cancellation may just be what she needed to repair her on- again, off-again relationship with her boyfriend, BMX rider Corey Bohan. “Filming a reality show really takes a toll on relationships because your mindset is to create good TV,” the former “The Hills” star told People. “It’s really really hard on relationships so after the show, Corey [Bohan] and I really worked on what was going on with us. We spent time together.” Audrina’s breakup with Corey may have been good for her show’s finale, but the couple has since rekindled their relationship and got back together in May. How do you keep your job from affecting your relationship? Cupid’s Advice: It’s easy to let your job take over your life. Cupid has some ways to keep it from affecting your relationship: 1. Try to separate work from home: Sure, everyone has their bad days a work, but try not to bring the stress you may receive at work to your home. If your job is consistently stressing you out, it may be time to start filling out applications. 2. Balance: Although you may not have finished everything you needed to do at work before your day ended, try to make sure that you when you’re home, you’re relaxing and not thinking about what you will have to do tomorrow. -

DISCOVERY’S ‘DUAL SURVIVAL’ RANKS AS #1 CABLE PROGRAM IN PRIME TIME AMONG MEN FRIDAY NIGHT Discovery Channel’s all-new series DUAL SURVIVAL continues to be a favorite among men. It was watched by 1.4 million people, including 582,000 men 18-49 and 539,000 men 25-54. The ratings propelled Discovery Channel to rank as the #1 cable network in delivery during Prime among M18-49 and #2 among M25-54/M18-34 on Friday, June 25. The 10PM premiere telecast of DUAL SURVIVAL surpassed many primetime broadcast telecasts on 6/25/10, bringing in more viewers in key male demos than ABC (Wife Swap for M18-49), CBS (Medium for M25-54, M18-49), FOX (Bones for M18-49, House for M18-49) and NBC (Dateline for M18-49). DUAL SURVIVAL is an all-new 10-part series following two survival experts, military- trained Dave Canterbury and naturalist Cody Lundin, as they take on some of the planet’s most unforgiving terrain to demonstrate how the right skills and some creative thinking can keep you alive. In the episode Out of Air, Canterbury and Lundin were lost SCUBA divers who were fortunate enough to find air, but were deep inside the maze of caves in Belize. Together, equipped with only their dive gear, they had to find their way out of the caves, through the dense jungle and to safety. -
Entertaining Beliefs in Economic Mobility
Entertaining Beliefs in Economic Mobility Eunji Kim† Abstract Americans have long believed in upward mobility and the narrative of the American Dream. Even in the face of rising income inequality and substantial empirical evidence that eco- nomic mobility has declined in recent decades, many Americans remain convinced of the prospects for upward mobility. What explains this disconnect? I argue that Americans’ media diets play an important role in explaining this puzzle. Specifically, contemporary Americans are watching a record number of entertainment TV programs that emphasize “rags-to-riches” narratives. I demonstrate that such shows have become a ubiquitous part of the media landscape over the last two decades. National surveys as well as online and lab- in-the-field experiments show that exposure to these programs increases viewers’ beliefs in the American Dream and promotes internal attributions of wealth. Media exemplars present in what Americans are watching instead of news can powerfully distort economic perceptions and have important implications for public preferences for redistribution.
