You are invited to attend our Induction Week events which take place from Monday 24 September to Friday 28 September. The UCL Student Union is also running a programme of events during Induction Week. For full details, check out their website at studentsunionucl.org/ POSTGRADUATE INDUCTION WEEK Monday 24 September to Friday 28 September. Registration starts from 2:00pm. UCL School of Pharmacy, 29-39 Brunswick Square, London WC1N 1AX The MSc / MRes programmes begin with a week-long induction programme. You are required to attend the full induction programme. There are introductory sessions about the modules you will study as well as general sessions on how to use the library and multimedia facilities, and access the School’s e-learning site called Moodle. INDUCTION PROGRAMME Please aim to arrive at the School of Pharmacy from 2:00pm on Monday 24 September for registration. Your induction timetable will be available at Registration. The Welcome session will begin a 3:00pm. Tea and coffee will be provided at registration. The first day of the teaching term will be Monday 1st October and term dates can be found at ucl.ac.uk/students/life-ucl/term-dates-and-closures/term-dates-and-closures-2018-19. Please note that the term dates for MSc Clinical Pharmacy, International Practice and Policy are slightly different than other programmes. Full details of the pre-enrolment process and what documents you are required to bring to enrolment can be found on the New Students website www.ucl.ac.uk/new-students INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION PROGRAMME (ISOP) Week beginning Monday 17th September 2018. International students will be invited to the International Student Orientation Programme running from the Monday 17th September. This is an optional programme for international students and is free of charge and is an excellent opportunity to help make the transition into life and study in the UK as smooth as possible. Registration is required in order to attend the orientation. We strongly recommend that all International students register and attend the orientation programme. The full list of ISOP events are available at www.ucl.ac.uk/iss/orientation/postgraduate-students STUDENT ID CARDS You will receive your UCL student ID card when you enrol at UCL. You will need to have this with you whenever you are on UCL property. Please keep it safe as students who lose their cards regularly will be charged a replacement fee. Postgraduate Taught Joining Instructions 2018/19 4 WELCOME TO THE UCL SCHOOL OF PHARMACY WELCOME TO THE UCL SCHOOL OF PHARMACY SETTING UP YOUR IT FACILITIES You will receive your UCL user ID and set your password at pre-enrolment. You will need to access the central IT facilities and should bring it along for your Moodle induction session during Induction Week. Further guidance for new students can be found on the ISD webpages TIMETABLE The first day of the teaching term will be Monday 1st October. With this pack is a document showing you how to access your timetable. Please note that timetables are subject to change. Click here to access the online timetables or type in this link: https://timetable.ucl.ac.uk/tt/homePage.do You can find information on how to use your timetable on your induction page: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/pharmacy/current-students/msc-induction MOODLE UCL uses a “Virtual Learning Environment” called Moodle which acts as a communication point between you and the university. It will be used to post announcements or send emails to your cohort. Moodle also provides access to material on lectures, tutorials and coursework, along with links to other useful websites and more general programme information. Because Moodle is a web-based environment, you can use it anywhere you have access to the internet. We will run introductory workshops at the School of Pharmacy on how to use Moodle during Induction Week. ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSES If English is not your first language it will be very important to practice your English as much as possible once you are here. Even watching television, reading newspapers and listening to the radio helps. Britain is a country full of funny accents and it may take some time before your ears adjust! UCL Language Centre provides a self-access centre which you are able to use to improve your level of English: www.resources.clie.ucl.ac.uk/home/sac. If you wish, you may also sign up for part-time courses in academic English, such as academic writing or advanced grammar. For further information: www.ucl.ac.uk/clie/graduate-preparation- courses/part-time-english-courses NEEDS BASED ON RELIGIOUS AND CULTURAL CONSIDERATIONS UCL has a Religion and Belief Equality Policy for Students which can be found at the following link: ucl.ac.uk/academic-manual/part-5/religion-belief-equality The School is a multi-cultural institution which tries to give consideration to students’ individual needs and preferences wherever possible. A Quiet Room is available for prayer and contemplation on a bookable basis. Students should come to SASO for more information. Foot washing facilities are available in the male and female student toilets in the basement. However, students should be aware that: There are no single sex facilities in the School, except for toilets. Students will not be excused from practical classes requiring protective gear such as trousers or being required to roll up their sleeves to take blood pressure in practical classes. It is not possible to guarantee a teaching or examination timetable that has no afternoon commitments. Students are not permitted to leave a scheduled class or assessment activity in order to pray. Students should be able to pray
