As our programs expand, our vision for youth remains focused - all young people deserve access to a creative learning environment. At Creative Action, we do much more than develop our students’ artistic skills. We know that through our creative learning programs students discover their own voice, gain confidence in sharing their perspectives, wrestle with big ideas, and deeply engage in the world around them.     San Jacinto Day Festival and Battle Reenactment Saturday, April 16, 2011, 10am – 6pm. Free to the public. CALL FOR VENDORS The San Jacinto Museum of History Association is an educational organization whose purposes are to collect and preserve significant historical materials that relate to the early history and culture of Texas and to promote the study of the history of Texas through exhibits, publications and educational programs. The Museum places special significance on interpreting the Texas Revolution, the period of the Republic of Texas and the Battle of San Jacinto. This year marks the 175th Anniversary of the Texas Revolution. The San Jacinto Day Festival and Battle Reenactment celebrates this battle as one of the most significant events in the history of Texas. The admission-free San Jacinto Day Festival takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the 1,200-acre San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site at the San Jacinto Monument. Past events have attracted 20,000 to 30,000 attendees. We are looking for history-themed individuals and/or groups to participate in the Festival. Vendors fall into these three categories—Commercial Sales; Demonstrators with Commercial Sales; and Exhibitors/Entertainers. Commercial Sales $125.00 per space Vendors who sell products that reflect our history—for example: historic period clothing, art or photography, travel books, children’s toys, books, and hand-made crafts. Demonstrators with Commercial Sales $65.00 per space Individuals/groups who demonstrate historic period activities—crafts such as weaving—AND have products available to sell. Exhibitors/Entertainers No Charge Exhibitors and entertainers who can demonstrate and display historic items or activities— for example: historic weapon collections; give quilting, basket weaving or spinning demonstrations; musical show, and storytelling.

    HAYS COUNTY FIRE MARSHAL’S OFFICE FIREWORK SAFETY TIPS If you plan on including fireworks in your holiday festivities, the Hays County Fire Marshal’s Office reminds you to celebrate safely by following these simple tips: ▪ Buy from permitted fireworks sellers only and never attempt to make your own fireworks ▪ Read and follow label directions, warnings and safety instructions ▪ Always have an adult supervise fireworks activities. Parents don't realize that young children suffer injuries from sparklers. Sparklers burn at temperatures of about 2,000 degrees - hot enough to melt some metals ▪ Never place any part of your body directly over a fireworks device when lighting the fuse. Back up to a safe distance immediately after lighting fireworks. ▪ Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not ignited fully ▪ Never point or throw fireworks at another person ▪ Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire or other mishap ▪ Light fireworks one at a time, then move back quickly. You should never twist fuses together to shoot off more than one at a time ▪ Never carry fireworks in a pocket or shoot them off in metal or glass containers ▪ After fireworks complete their burning, douse the spent device with plenty of water from a bucket or hose before discarding it to prevent a trash fire ▪ Make sure fireworks are legal in your area before buying or using them ▪ Eye and Hearing protection is strongly recommended ▪ Check the weather and don’t discharge fireworks on days of high wind and/or low humidity.
