Maximum downhill slope: 8%. 16 turns – 7 left, 9 right. Lap length of 5.45 km. The predicted average lap time for the Circuit is 1m, 34 seconds. Length of longest straight 1,175m. Total asphalt used (base, binder and wearing courses): 173,000 m2. Total length of tyre barriers: 6,500m, using a total of 174,000 units. Total guard rail: 11,700m. Total FIA safety fencing: 9,350m. Total number of concrete piles: 40,000, totalling 800,000m. The Shanghai Audi International Circuit includes: A total capacity of 200,000 spectators. A main grandstand for 29,000 spectators and first class hospitality suites. Dedicated team buildings for international racing teams. A Sky Restaurant. A media center above the track. CIRCUIT HISTORY Even after Formula 1's first visit to Shanghai Audi International Circuit, it was already acknowledged by the sport's insiders as the best of the recent spate of new circuits. 7 Ultra-modern, with space aplenty for overtaking and outstanding viewing for the 200,000 spectators, supported by superb facilities for the teams and drivers, it is small wonder that the circuit made such an extraordinary impact. The site that was chosen in the Jiading district, 20km from Hongqiao international airport and 30km north-west of the city centre in an area being developed as Shanghai International Auto City, along with an automobile manufacturing base, exhibition and sales facilities. Less than half of the 5.3 square kilometre site is covered by the circuit, with the rest to be developed for other recreational uses. Once the construction plans had been approved, there were only 18 months to build the circuit and its infrastructure, requiring a workforce of 7000 to work around the clock. If the timescale wasn't trouble enough, the site provided further problems as it was a swamp requiring specialist building techniques to make it stable, with the building of 40,000 support piles, from 40 to 80m in depth and topped with a layer of polystyrene (EPS, extruded polystyrene). In order to fulfill the need for polystyrene, the company had to purchase the entire stock available in the Asian market. Circuit design expert Herrman Tilke headed the project, coming up with a layout that offered seven left turns and nine rights, and a 200mph back straight leading into a hairpin that's good for overtaking as it's unusually wide. The gentle banking at the ever-tightening opening sequence of corners is also a hit, with Turn 13 being the opposite as it opens out onto the back straight. People talk of how Tilke took his inspiration for the layout from the Chinese Shang character, which means "above" and ties in with Shanghai. However, this was done unwittingly. He had incorporated local themes into the design even before this. Based on China being a gateway to the Asia Pacific region, some of the grandstands have a roof based on a lotus leaf. The team offices are built on stilts above a lake are in imitation of the water gardens in Shanghai's Yu-yuan garden. Although the circuit is unremittingly modern, the detailing on many of the buildings is in traditional Chinese red and gold. After nightfall, though, the circuit becomes futuristic again, with blue lights picking out the architectural extravagances. Apart from The Formula One Chinese Grand Prix,Shanghai Audi International Circuit also stages other international motor sports events such as The World Endurance Championship and The World Touring Car Championship.

  • P Zero Yellow Experimental Tyre Makes Its Debut in Abu Dhabi
P ZERO YELLOW EXPERIMENTAL TYRE MAKES ITS DEBUT IN ABU DHABI Abu Dhabi, November 11th, 2011 – As part of its preparation for the 2012 season, Pirelli gave a new experimental version of the P Zero Yellow soft tyre its debut today, during the two free practice sessions at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. McLaren‟s Lewis Hamilton has emerged quickest with a time of 1m39.586s, set during the second session using Pirelli‟s current P Zero Yellow soft tyre. Hamilton‟s time is already close to last year‟s pole position: 1m39.394s set by Sebastian Vettel. Each driver was allocated an extra two sets of the experimental soft compound tyre, for today only. This new tyre, which sits in between the current soft and the current supersoft, set fastest time in free practice one with a benchmark of 1m40.263s thanks to McLaren driver Jenson Button. McLaren was on top for most of the session and seemed set for a one-two before Red Bull Racing‟s Mark Webber demoted Hamilton to third: all driving on the experimental tyre. This tyre was used during both sessions, meaning that the teams had a total of five sets available throughout the day. The experimental tyres will be returned tonight, with the usual tyre allocation for Saturday and Sunday applicable from now on. The teams concentrated on the two tyre compounds that will be used for the race for the last hour of free practice two on varying fuel loads, with the McLarens of Jenson Button and then Lewis Hamilton going fastest on the conventional P Zero Yellow.

  • 2020 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Sunday Renault DP World F1
2020 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Sunday Renault DP World F1 Team collected a handful of points at the season-finale Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with Daniel Ricciardo seventh and Esteban Ocon ninth at the Yas Marina Circuit. A thrilling final lap saw the team add more points to their haul from the race with Daniel taking the Fastest Lap – a bonus point – and Esteban passing Lance Stroll for ninth place with a fantastic move at Turn 11. The team finishes the 2020 FIA Formula 1 World Championship in fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship with Daniel fifth and Esteban twelfth in the Drivers’ Championship. Esteban started from tenth on Mediums with Daniel on Hards a position behind. Esteban gained a place on lap one while Daniel held his original starting spot. An early VSC, which was upgraded to a full Safety Car, led to Esteban pitting for Hard tyres with a superb stop from the crew allowing him to jump Daniil Kvyat. Daniel remained out on Hard tyres to occupy fifth place. With Esteban making gains towards the top ten, Daniel extended his stint to find a pit window inside the points. That gap opened up with Daniel pitting on lap 40 for Mediums to slot into seventh place. He held that place to the flag, bagging the Fastest Lap with a stellar effort on his final lap in Renault DP World F1 Team colours. Esteban then improved from tenth to ninth with his overtake on Stroll to cross the line with two points. Daniel Ricciardo, started P11, finished P7, plus Fastest Lap: “Considering we started eleventh I’m really satisfied with seventh position tonight.

  • Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Report
COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE 20141123 ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX RACE REPORT Daniel Ricciardo’s storming performance helped him recover from a pitlane start and end his impressive first season at Infiniti Red Bull Racing with a fourth place finish in today’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel couldn’t quite match his teammate’s heroics en route to eighth, while Scuderia Toro Rosso’s JeanEric Vergne just missed out on the points in 12th. Romain Grosjean fought back from grid and drivethrough penalties to finish 13th for Lotus F1 Team, and Caterham F1 Team’s Will Stevens enjoyed a solid first Formula 1 appearance by coming home 17th. Key race points: Abu Dhabi’s unique late evening start time provided a stunning backdrop to the world championship decider and also threw up a variety of tyre strategies as the track cooled throughout the evening. Starting from the pitlane proved no hindrance to the Red Bull pair who diligently picked their way through the midfield during the opening stint on prime tyres. Ricciardo had the best of the traffic and was up to fifth when he pitted for the first time on lap 28. Another fast and consistent stint saw him running third when he stopped for the final time to switch to the option tyres with just eight laps remaining, before finishing one place higher than where he originally qualified. Vettel was also able to charge through on the same strategy but could only finish eighth despite picking off both Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg over the final 10 laps.

2016 MEDIA GUIDE Toyota Racing Series: TOP INTERNATIONALS CHALLENGE LEADING KIWI DRIVERS New Zealand’s premier single-seater championship has once more attracted a top field of international drivers to this country to do battle with New Zealand drivers for the most prestigious trophies in New Zealand motor racing. The championship, now in its 12th season, and in the second season for the new FT50 race car, the series was established to help young New Zealanders to advance their racing careers by giving them experience in modern composite-based ‘wings and slicks’ race cars. It has launched Kiwis into international racing careers. New Zealand graduates of the series include 2015 FIA World Endurance Champion Brendon Hartley, Le Mans 24-Hour race winner Earl Bamber, GP2 racers Mitch Evans and Richie Stanaway, Japanese Formula Three champion Nick Cassidy, Chinese Formula Masters champion James Munro, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia champion Chris van der Drift and V8 Supercars driver Shane van Gisbergen. This year three Kiwis are racing – James Munro (Christchurch), 2015 national Formula Ford champion Taylor Cockerton (Pukekohe) and 2015 Spirit of a Nation TRS feature race winner Brendon Leitch. Munro is having his third shot at winning the TRS championship as is Leitch, while it is Cockerton’s first year in the top category. The international talent they will race against is considerable. Brazilian 17-year-old Pedro Piquet, son of three-time world Formula One champion Nelson (1981, 1983, 1987), is returning to the TRS after contesting the opening rounds in 2014. In the intervening period he has won the Brazilian Formula Three Championship for the last two years and will be using the TRS series as a springboard into the FIA European Formula Three Championship where he will team up with British driver and 2015 TRS graduate Callum Ilott at Van Amersfoort racing.
