Guest Responsibilities
Please help us to conserve utilities by using energy conservation measures; i.e. turning off all lights and lowering temperature settings when leaving your room. For your safety, please comply with fire, health and safety regulations. Make a note of the evacuation routes. Please inform the guest reception desk of any identified safety issues.
Please report damages to furnishings or missing government property so we can collect reimbursement to help keep lodging costs to a minimum. In some cases, the general manager processes a report on loss or damage to NAF assets in accordance with AFI 34-202 to collect reimbursement for damage beyond fair wear and tear and for missing government property caused by abuse or negligence on their part or by their guests. Guests are responsible for their conduct and that of their guests and/or family members while in government lodging. Please observe quiet times, 2200—0700 hours, so everyone has a pleasant stay. Lodging Fees are as follows: VQs $84.00, TLFs $93.00, Business Suites $94.00, and General Suites $95.00. Add $10 per night for “Pet-Friendly” facilities. Guests not traveling on official government orders are required to pay in advance for room charges. All guests traveling on official government orders must present a valid credit card at check in or advance payment for the entire stay is required. In addition, all long-term guests are required to make payment on their account every 15 days. Abused guest rooms, smoking in the room, or having pets in unauthorized rooms will be assessed a $150 cleaning fee. Check Out Time
Check out time for all rooms is 1100 hours. If an emergency arises, please contact the front desk for a possible late check out authorization. Guests will be charged a late check out fee (a one-day charge) if they fail to receive authorization from the front desk and/or manager in advance. Receiving Mail

From the South Gate (Southgate Avenue), continue down Hill Field Road until you reach 2000 North, and make a right turn. Endorsement Stamps
A Guest Service Representative will endorse civilian temporary duty (TDY) orders for guests occupying on-base government quarters entitling them to limited use of AAFES and Services Facilities. Extensions
If you are on PCS orders and require to extend your stay over 30 days, please stop by the guest reception desk as far in advance as possible to. All extensions are handled on a case-by-case basis and are processed through the Lodging General Manager. Space is extremely limited during the summer months and extensions are sometimes unavailable. Lodging Information Continued Housekeeping Services Provided Daily
Guests are responsible for the general cleanliness of your room, to include the cleanliness of the stove, refrigerator, and dishes on a daily basis and upon checkout. Service is provided daily, to include: emptying trash, replacing amenities and towels, and making your bed, unless the Do Not Disturb (DND) sign is visible. If the DND sign is removed by 1300 hours, service will be provided to your room. If the DND sign is left for three consecutive days, for safety purposes we reserve the right to enter the room. We will service it at that time. Supplies provided: toilet tissue, facial tissue, coffee and tea. We observe water and energy conservation efforts by changing your bed linens and washing towels weekly or upon checkout. If you would like to participate in our conservation efforts, please place your towels on the towel bar or shower rod. Only towels on the floor will be replaced during daily service. Housekeeping will not make the beds, change the sheets or vacuum if personal items are left on the beds or floors.
Housekeeping Services Provided Weekly
Guests are responsible for the general cleanliness of your room, to include the cleanliness of the stove, refrigerator and dishes on a daily basis and upon checkout. Service is provided weekly to extended stay-overs (more than 7 days), to include: light dusting, vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom, changing sheets and making your bed, unless the Do Not Disturb (DND) sign is visible. Hobson House Basement
The Dry Cleaners is located in building 420 at the Hill Express/Shoppette. They can be reached at 801 -775-8353. Alterations can also be found in building 420 and can be reached by dialing 801-825-4151. Maintenance If you experience any problems when repairs are necessary, please inform the front desk by dialing “0” from your room. You may also fill out the maintenance request form located in your room, your housekeeper will collect it and turn it in to our maintenance department.
Lodging Information Continued Pets
Lodging has a limited number of pet units. Cats and dogs are the only animals permitted. Pets are allowed only in pet friendly TLFs. Pets are not authorized in any other facility or on their premises. If you are not staying in a pet-friendly unit, you must obtain appropriate care for your pets. A $150 cleaning fee will be charged for pets found in non-pet units, and the pet must be removed immediately. If any damage is caused to the unit, the guest will be charged for the repairs and asked to vacate the premises.

The Arts & Crafts Center offers diverse programs that provide facilities supplies and instruction to develop new skills and a sense of pride through personal achievement. A full service frame and embroidery shop is available for custom framing and embroidery. Other instructional classes include glass fusion, basic art and digital photography. The engraving shop offers computerized laser engraving on plaques, trophies, pen sets, letter openers, etc. They can help you with the perfect award or recognition plaque. The Bowling Center offers a comfortable, modern environment for bowlers of all ages, along with an excellent snack bar, a new AMF Accuscore Computerized Scoring System, a pro shop and a state of the art Thunder Alley System. The Center is accredited by National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). They accept children from six weeks to 5 years of age. The development of the "whole" child and interaction in a social setting are extremely important aspects of the Child Development Program. Patrons must complete an application for enrollment. Applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. If two applicants apply at the same time, priority will be given to single-military, then to dual-military. The Landing is a high-energy entertainment venue that features a variety program events. New programs include theme party packages, business luncheons, conferences, farewells and promotion parties. The Hillcrest Dining Facility operates an appropriated funded enlisted dining facility in order to provide meals to enlisted members who reside in dormitories, and to provide flight and ground support meal service in support of daily operations. TDY Authorized Officers and DOD Civilians receiving a meal portion of per diem are authorized to use the dining facility when the authorization is included in the TDY order by the orders authorizing official. ITT offers discount tickets to local attractions, which includes ski resorts, Lagoon Amusement Park, Raging Waters, movie theaters, and Hogle Zoo. The Warrior and Hess Fitness Centers offer various programs such as tennis, racquetball, weight training, and group exercise classes. In addition, the athletic program offers intensive intramural varsity and instructional programs. The athletic program is supported with three sports fields, a quarter-mile running track, four-mile par course and six tennis courts. Directly east of the runway, large greens, thick roughs and strong morning winds are some of the features of the Hubbard Memorial Golf Course. It includes an 18-acre driving range, two large practice greens and a popular full service pro shop. The facility utilizes an advanced computer system for recording golfers handicap. The Gerrity Memorial Library furnishes both technical and recreational material for the base. Books, newspapers, magazines, compact discs, over 3,000 DVD’s, e-books, and audio books are all available. Programs such as Pre-K Workshops, STEM, and archaeology are also offered at the library. Utah is the perfect place to experience all four seasons. Hill AFB Outdoor Recreation offers a variety of trips year round, which include hiking, fishing, ATV trips, snowmobiling, boating, sledding, camping, etc. The equipment checkout center supplies equipment to accommodate your summer or winter outdoor adventures, whether you go with us or on your own. The youth center provides well-rounded social and sports programs for over 7,500 young people throughout the school year and during the summer. The center includes a game room, instruction rooms for classes, and a full-sized gymnasium equipped for basketball, volleyball, and badminton. The youth sports program provides instruction and competition with emphasis on sportsmanship and socialization. The summer program includes a variety of field trips, arts and crafts, movies, and games. The Before and After School Program provides services and supervision in the early morning and after school hours.

Hill Air Force Base History
Bordered by the colorful Wasatch Mountains to the east and overlooking the Great Salt Lake (remainder of the Ancient Lake Bonneville) to the west, the site selected for Hill AFB is unique. The history of the base is also colorful and unique in the annals of the United States Air Force.
On July 1, 1939, Congress appropriated $8 million for establishment and construction of the Ogden Air Depot. Five months later, the War Department designated the site as Hill Field in honor of the Major Ployer P. Hill, who lost his life in 1935 at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, while piloting the B-17 Flying Fortress.
Groundbreaking ceremonies, attended by local dignitaries took place January 12, 1940. Approximately 10 months later, Hill Field was officially activated. Lt Col (later Brig General) Morris Berman assumed command November 7, 1940. The new installation soon proved to be the strategic intermountain depot General “Hap” Arnold and other far-sighted leaders visualized it to be.
During WWII, battle weary B-17, B-24, B-29, P-40, P-61 and A-20 aircraft depended on Hill for rehabilitation. In response, the work force, which grew to a peak of 22,000 in 1943, provided aircraft repair, engines and parts needed to return them to combat. This support included establishing the progressive assembly line for B-24 Liberator Bombers. Personnel also performed important wartime work at the nearby Wendover Range by completing training in air combat operations and aircraft and munitions maintenance. Crews of the 509th Composite Group, for example, practiced bombing runs at the Wendover Range, including those in preparation for the Hiroshima and Nagasaki missions that ended WWII.
On September 18, 1947 the Army Air Corps became the United States Air Force, ending an association with the Army that had lasted 40 years. Following an Air Force wide pattern of renaming fields as bases, Hill Field became an Air Force Base on February 5, 1948.
During the early post-war years, Hill became a storage and disposition site for vast numbers of airplanes and items of support equipment. By the end of 1947 more than $200 million worth of aircraft had been preserved to near perfect condition for possible future use. When North Korea invaded South Korea in 1950, Hill personnel quickly removed needed B-29’s and B-26’s from storage and added them to the active Air Force inventory.
In 1953, Ogden Air Material Area, the ranking activity at Hill, engaged in logistical support of more sophisticated aircraft. The F-89 Scorpion, the first jet maintenance project here, was followed by the F-84, the F-101 Voodoo, which became the Ogden AMA-managed weapon in 1952, also became a significant depot workload in the 1950’s.
Hill’s acreage doubled in size April 1, 1955, when the Department of Defense added the adjacent Ogden Arsenal property. This is now the “West Area” of Hill. The new acreage added more than 600 buildings and structures. As a result, the base capabilities substantially increased.
Hill Air Force Base History Cont.
In January 1959, the Air Force named Hill as the single assembly and recycling point for Minuteman Missiles. Subsequently, it became the center of the Air Force missile program in the 1960’s when Boeing Company specially constructed facilities to assemble the minuteman ICBM, while Ogden AMA handled depot-level maintenance on them.
Hill also played an important role in improving the nation’s fighter capability. Ogden AMA, which became Ogden Air Logistics Center April 1, 1974 was logistics manager for the F-4 Phantom, the fastest and most versatile jet fighter in the Air Force inventory during the 1960’s and much of the 1970’s. The center built a specialized repair capability that enabled the base to provide depot-level maintenance on more that 200 of the jets each year.
In 1980, 40 years from its beginning, the base had another new star, the multi-national F-16 Fighting Falcon, which possesses capabilities unsurpassed by any other aircraft in the world. The center was designated as logistics manager for the aircraft and the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing was the first to get the new fighter.
In addition to the F-16’s, F-4’s and Minuteman, the center’s mission also includes the Bomarc drone missile, Maverick air-to-ground missile, Walleye laser and electro-optical guided bombs, Emergency Rocklet Communication system, Titan and Peacekeeper missiles. Air munitions, aircraft landing gears, wheels, brakes, tires and tubes, photographic reconnaissance equipment and aerospace training and simulation equipment make up its workload.
From modest beginnings, Hill AFB now ranks as Utah’s largest employer. Approximately 20,000 military and civilian contract personnel are employed. The payroll is over $500 million and the presence of the installation injects growth into Utah’s economy. The base now consists of 6,698 acres of land, compared to the original 3,000. Current value of real estate, buildings, improvements, equipment and inventories exceeds $4.5 billion.
Shelter In Place

SUBJECT: Shelter In Place
1) Sheltering-In-Place: a. Evacuation and sheltering-in-place are the two primary protective actions planned for and employed by many US communities in the event of an accidental release of toxic materials. The advantage of sheltering- in-place is that it can be implemented more rapidly than evacuation. It may also be the only means to provide protection for people with limited mobility or for school, child care, club, and medical facilities. The disadvantage is that the protection it provides is variable and diminishes with the duration of the exposure. b. Sheltering-In-Place requires three distinct actions to be taken without delay to maximize the passive protection a building can provide. c. First, the inside-outside air exchange rate of the building must be reduced before the hazardous plume arrives. This is done by closing all windows and doors and turning off all fans, HVAC systems, window air conditioners/heaters, and combustion heaters. In some cases, the HVAC system may be switched to a closed or recirculation mode to eliminate outside air entry. d. Second, the building entry and exit must cease during the period of plume passage. e. Third, the air exchange rate of the building must be increased as soon as the hazardous plume has passed (determined by emergency response personnel) to purge the building of any residual airborne contamination. Increase the air exchange rate by opening all windows and doors, turning on all exhaust fans, and turning on or opening the HVAC system(s) to aerate the building.
NOTE: In all the real-world hazardous materials emergency cases studied by the National Institute for Chemical Studies, there were no fatalities associated with shelter- in- place.
