In 1678 he was presented to the Rectory of Hasketon, being inducted onMarch 24th, and there he lived till1736 ; when he died lot in his 85th year, and was buried in the Church. In 1676 he married Prudence, daughter of the Rev. Robert Camborne, Vicar of Campsey Ash. Besides receiving legacies from him, this lady was sole heiress to her brother Stephen, Rector of Lawshall, who died in1706. loa She died in1716, the mother of seven children. Three of these, including the eldest son, died without issue. Stephen, the second son, died at Framsden in 1751 ;but he had mortgaged in1737 all the Bedingfield lands which had come down tohim from 1460 ;and his only surviving son, John, was sued by the mortgagee, and lost everything. Jeremy, the youngest son of the Rector of Hasketon, married Charity, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Hawys of , and died at Gazeley in 1774. Their only surviving son Henry was born in 1734, and graduated at Caius College, Cambridge, in 1756 ;M.A.in 1759. In 1771 he became Rector of Farnham St. Martin, where he died, January 13th, 1814. The second son of John Punchard and Dorcas Paton, Jeremy, only brother of the Rector of Hasketon, moved toBacton, and died there in1729.103 His eldest son, Jeremy, lived at Farnham, and died there in1725. 104 Offshoots of a second son, John, lived at Wetheringsett, and came to poor estate. Of the children of Jeremy four died without issue in the first or next generation ; but a large number sprung from Charles, the youngest :IOS: I0S the most noteworthy being Charles Punchard of Pakenham (1807—1864), a famous breeder of fowls ;and his son, Frederick, born in1840, agent toLord Bective of Eirkby Lonsdale. To return now to other descendants of Jeremy and Susan Punchard who form a distinct line.106 Their children were brought up at Wingfield, under the care of John Punchard, their uncle, a bachelor and wealthy man. John, the grandson, was born there in 1651, and died at Easton in 1698." 7 He married Rachel Carter of , who was a considerable legatee of her uncle, John Carter (+1698 108), and a relative of the Musketts of Haughley. This Punchard, with his father (whom he predeceased), were the only members of the family who went into trade ;they were maltsters at Eye, and amassed a fair estate. John, the eldest and only surviving son of John Punchard and Rachel Carter, was born at Easton in1686, and died < at Hacheston in his 70th .year. 109 He married Mary,daughter of Francis and Mary Folkard'"* of Parham ;who received, under her father's will,various lands at in 1722, and a remainder inher mother's personalty in 1735. Her brother was the Rev. Francis Folkard, M.A., of Pembroke Colloge, Cambridge, Rector of Clopton and Hasketon. Both she and her husband were buried at Parham. John, the only son of the foregoing John and Mary Punchard, was born at in1728, and, on the death of his father in1756, was a fairlyrich man. With him the family seemed once more to resume its proper place among the gentle-folk of the county. Not content withhis own lands, he hired several farms, including that ofParham Hall,and didmuch toimprove the breed of horses and cattle.
