Scott Gordon – Head Coach

On July 13, 2015, Scott Gordon was named the newest head coach of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The ninth head coach in team history, Gordon, 53, is a native of Brockton, Massachusetts and most recently served as an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2011 to 2014. Prior to that, he was the head coach of the New York Islanders for parts of three seasons from 2008 to 2010.

“Scott is a great coach and we are extremely excited to welcome him to the Phantoms,” said Phantoms’ co-owners Rob and Jim Brooks. “His experiences and abilities should allow us to reach our goal of developing players in a winning culture.”

Gordon brings eight years of AHL coaching experience to the Phantoms. After serving as an assistant coach for parts of three seasons, he replaced Mike Sullivan as head coach of the late in the 2002-03 campaign and guided the Bruins over the next five seasons. During that time, Gordon registered a 221-141-47 overall mark en route to playoff appearances in five of those six campaigns. In his final season at the helm in Providence, the Bruins produced a 55-18-7 overall record and a league-leading 117 points earning Gordon the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award presented to the AHL’s Coach of the Year.

“We are extremely pleased to add Scott to our organization as head coach of our top affiliate in Lehigh Valley,” said Flyers GM Ron Hextall. “He brings in a proven track record of success and knowledge as a coach at all levels, and we are confident he can help develop our prospects through our system, as well as lead the Phantoms back to the Calder Cup playoffs.”

In addition to his professional coaching experience, Gordon also has extensive international experience behind the bench. He served as an assistant coach for the United States at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver helping the U.S. claim a silver medal. What’s more, he was an assistant coach for the United States at both the 2009 and 2011 IIHF World Championships.

After an eight-year career as a professional goaltender, which included 23 games with the , Gordon began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the of the International Hockey League (IHL) from 1994 to 1996. He earned his first head coaching position in 1998 with the Roanoke Express of the East Coach Hockey League (ECHL). In two seasons behind the bench in Roanoke, Gordon compiled an 82- 42-16 overall record and guided the Express to the postseason in both campaigns.

Riley Cote – Assistant Coach

Riley Cote enters his seventh season as Assistant Coach for the Phantoms and his 11th campaign in the Flyers organization.

Cote, 34, spent six seasons with the Flyers and Phantoms as a player from 2004 through 2010. Known for his toughness and fighting prowess, Cote played in 156 games in the NHL, all with Philadelphia. During that time, he amassed 411 penalty minutes as he routinely stepped up to some of the top heavyweights in the NHL. Cote also registered one goal and six assists for the Flyers.

A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Cote signed an AHL contract with the prior to the 2004-05 season and helped the team to a Calder Cup championship that spring. He then inked an NHL contract with the Flyers for the 2005-06 season but spent most of the next two years with the Phantoms before eventually making his NHL debut against the New York Islanders on March 24, 2007. Cote earned a full-time roster spot with the Flyers out of training camp prior to the 2007-08 season.

In 168 games over his three seasons as a player with the Phantoms from 2004 to 2007, Cote finished fourth in franchise history with 664 penalty minutes. He also boasts the team’s seventh-highest total for penalty minutes in a single season when he amassed 280 penalty minutes during the 2004-05 campaign. In addition, Cote scored eight career goals and 12 assists for the Phantoms.

Following the 2009-10 season with Philadelphia, he was hired by the Flyers organization to join the Adirondack Phantoms as an assistant coach and has thrived in his new role helping up-and-coming prospects develop into NHL players.

Kerry Huffman – Assistant Coach

Kerry Huffman enters his 1st season as Assistant Coach with the Phantoms. He spent last season as an Assistant Coach with the Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Knights of the North (NAHL).

A native of Peterborough, Ontario, Huffman, 48, produced 37 goals, 108 assists, 145 points and 361 penalty minutes across 401 career NHL games during time with the Philadelphia Flyers, Quebec Nordiques and . A first-round selection (#20 overall) by Philadelphia in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft, he tallied 23 goals, 61 assists, 84 points and 124 penalty minutes in 207 career games with the Flyers.

Bill Downey – Manager of Hockey Operations

Bill Downey is entering his 1st season as Manager of Hockey Operations with the Phantoms.

A native of Pittsburgh, Bill spent the past four seasons as Director of Hockey Operations at Penn State University after serving in the same capacity at Harvard during the 2010-11 campaign. Before that, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach with Penn State’s club hockey team where he was active in recruiting and was part of the advisory board that helped with the preparation for Penn State’s launch of NCAA hockey.

During the 2007-08 season, Bill was an assistant coach for the Reading Royals of the ECHL while also serving as hockey director for Team and Flyers Skate Zone in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
