BBC America Teases 'The Watch' at NYCC 2020

​Based on 's Discworld novels, BBC America's new original series, The Watch, is prepping to premiere on Sunday, Jan. 3 at 8 ET/PT, the network said Friday during a virtual New York Comic Con panel. BBC America also unveiled the above trailer for the high-concept series starring Richard Dormer () as well as a series of preview clips.

Also announced Friday is that Wendell Pierce (The Wire) and (What We Do in the Shadows) are joining the series as the voices of Death, also known as the Grim Reaper, and Wayne, a magical speaking sword, respectively.

The Watch tells the story of the City Watch of Ankh-Morpork, which is composed of a group of misfits led by Captain Sam Vines (Dorrmer). The series also stars Lara Rossi (I May Destroy You) as Lady Sybil Rankin-blazer of trails, wigs, and trench coats-and Adam Hugill as the naive but heroic Carrot, Marama Corlette as the mysterious Angua and Jo Eaton-Kent as forensics expert Cheery. Together, the gang learns they need to save the world even if they don't feel exactly equipped for the task.

Further casting includes Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones) who plays Inigo Skimmer, a.k.a. The Duke of Stab, and Ralph Ineson (Chernobyl), voicing Sergeant Detritus, a stone troll and member of The City Watch. Dormer and Kaye previously starred together in Game of Thrones as Lord Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr.

Previously announced cast includes Sam Adewunmi (The Last Tree) as Carcer Dun; Anna Chancellor (Pennyworth) as Lord Vetinari; James Fleet (Outlander) as The Archchancellor; Ingrid Oliver () as Doctor Cruces; Ruth Madeley (Years and Years) as Throat;Hakeem Kae-Kazim (Dynasty) as Captain John Keel; and Bianca Simone Mannie (Homeland) as Wonse.

The Watch is executive produced by Hilary Salmon (Luther), Ben Donald (The Mallorca Files) and Richard Stokes for BBC Studios, Rob Wilkins (Good Omens) for Narrativia, Simon Allen and Craig Viveiros (The War of the Worlds). Johann Knobel (Shameless) is series producer and Simon Rogers (Doctor Foster) is production designer. BBC Studios is handling distribution internationally.
