Congratulations to the Adult Soccer 2017 Hall of Fame Inductees. As adult soccer has existed for over a hundred years in the United States, it is appropriate that we honor all individuals who have been pioneers of our sport and helped with its growth. Tonight we will recognize some distinguished guests who have contributed to our growth.

These individuals will be honored with the highest honor from USASA. Their passion and vision for our sport has been, and is, an integral part of the growth of adult soccer in the United States. Congratulations to Darius Ejlali, Ric Olivas, , and Barb Trainor who are our 2017 recipients. When you see these individuals, please thank them for their time, their commitment and their leadership.

I would also like to thank our Hall of Fame Committee, its chairman, Bruno Trapikas, Bob Black, Gianfranco Borroni, Dick Burns, Mike Maloney, Consalvo Turchi, , Jr., Bob Kepner and Peggy Polley-Grizzle for all the time they have dedicated to make this evening a success. To be considered for induction into the USASA Soccer Hall of Fame, candidates shall be nominated as administrators, coaches, players, or referees, and shall meet the criteria specified for that category. Individuals meeting the qualifications under two or more categories may be nominated for consideration under a single category, using primary/secondary categories, or specifying multiple categories. Length of service criteria may only be waived by the unanimous consent of the selection panel, under extraordinary circumstances.

Administrator candidates shall include persons who have served as officers of national, regional or state organizations and, in their capacities, have rendered exceptional service to adult amateur soccer over a period of at least ten years. This category also includes those distinct from these capacities that, by their assistance, sponsorship, or other valuable contribution, have furthered the development of adult amateur soccer in the United States.

Coaching candidates shall be those who have served the adult amateur soccer community in a coaching capacity over a period of at least ten years and have a demonstrated record of coaching success at the national, regional, and/or state levels, exhibiting exceptional coaching and teaching ability. Candidates should also have contributed to the promotion and growth of a positive image for adult amateur soccer and its programs.

Player candidates shall have been selected to participate at a national level for a minimum period of three years, or at the regional level or equivalent for a minimum period of five years, exhibiting the principles of Fair Play and respect for other players. Nominees must have also demonstrated a respect for the game in general and for adult amateur soccer specifically during their days as a player.

Referee candidates shall have served the adult amateur soccer community in a refereeing capacity over a period of at least ten years. Referees shall have achieved a national grade and/or above. Other factors to be considered shall include, but not be limited to: participation in State and National cups; and participation in national programs such as the Select Program, Donnelly Cup, Veterans’ Cup, etc. This category shall also include referee administrative positions, such as instruction, assessment, assigning, and other referee activities within adult amateur soccer.

All nominees shall be considered and chosen on the basis of having made a significant contribution toward the development and advancement of adult amateur soccer at the national or regional level. Candidates may be either active or inactive in adult amateur soccer when nominated, and are eligible after their retirement. Deceased persons, if elected, shall be inducted posthumously. North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame so that the funds from the purchase of plates would benefit the entire North Carolina soccer community. The Hall of Fame brings together NCASA, NCYSA, NCSRA and NCSCA.

During his eight years as the Region Ill Deputy Director, Darius consistently championed making the Region Ill National Cup a sought-after venue for competition at the highest level. He always encouraged participation by teams from all 12 state associations and sought the best fields and playing conditions. Hours and hours were spent on the phone talking with state leaders and team captains. He has also traveled throughout Northern California recruiting new leagues and attending state and local league events. And Ric has helped modernize CSAN’s Ricardo Olivas governing documents, computer systems, Admin - Region IV registration systems and policies.

Ric was born in El Paso, Texas and moved to San Francisco in 1947. He started playing soccer in the asphalt school yard of Edison Elementary and continued playing through high school and college, collecting a number of awards and honors along the way. Ric then moved into the world of administration.

In 2003 he created The Sanneh Foundation (TSF) to leverage what he saw as soccer’s unique potential to create positive social change for youth. Currently acting as the organization’s full time CEO, he oversees TSF’s overall direction and future development in both the United States and internationally, growing TSF from one program and a total Anthony Sanneh budget of $60,000, to 6 programs and yearly Player - Region II budget of $1.7 million in the last four years. Barbara served as referee assessor and several years as a mentor for youth referees.

Barbara became the USASA Region IV secretary in 1996 and continues to serve in that role. She has served with many different regional directors. She was appointed to the USASA Membership committee and served in that position for several years.
