  • Midnight Special Songlist
west coast music Midnight Special Please find attached the Midnight Special song list for your review. SPECIAL DANCES for Weddings: Please note that we will need your special dance requests, (I.E. First Dance, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Dance etc) FOUR WEEKS in advance prior to your event so that we can confirm that the band will be able to perform the song(s) and that we are able to locate sheet music. In some cases where sheet music is not available or an arrangement for the full band is need- ed, this gives us the time needed to properly prepare the music and learn the material. Clients are not obligated to send in a list of general song requests. Many of our clients ask that the band just react to whatever their guests are responding to on the dance floor. Our clients that do provide us with song requests do so in varying degrees. Most clients give us a handful of songs they want played and avoided. Recently, we’ve noticed in increase in cli- ents customizing what the band plays and doesn’t play with very specific detail. If you de- sire the highest degree of control (allowing the band to only play within the margin of songs requested), we ask for a minimum of 100 requests. We want you to keep in mind that the band is quite good at reading the room and choosing songs that best connect with your guests. The more specific/selective you are, know that there is greater chance of losing certain song medleys, mashups, or newly released material the band has.

PROVIDING BIBLICALLY ACCURATE RECORDED MATERIALS FOR EDUCATION AND MINISTRY. RESOURCE GUIDE © 2012 Lifepointe Ministries All rights reserved Welcome to LifePointe! One of many challenges faced by ACSI teachers and administrators is earning the necessary Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) in Biblical Studies to keep their certification up-to-date. LifePointe Media tackles the challenge head-on by providing them with affordable and dynamic Bible studies that have been pre-approved by ACSI for CEU’s in Biblical Studies. Although currently serving as Senior Pastor of the dynamic and growing congregation of Chapel Pointe in Hudsonville, Michigan, my roots are deep in the ACSI movement, having served as Superintendent of both Tri-City Christian Schools of Vista, California and most recently, NorthPointe Christian Schools of Grand Rapids, Michigan. While at NorthPointe Christian, I saw the struggles our teachers faced getting their Bible CEU’s and determined to find a way to help them. I have always had a tremendous love for teaching the Bible, and both schools were kind enough to let me preach at a local church. With the help of a competent staff, we were able to package the sermons and get them pre-approved by ACSI. This allowed our teachers to get their Bible CEU’s in a convenient and inexpensive manner. Our teachers shared what we were doing and primarily by word-of- mouth, other ACSI teachers from around the country heard about the program and requested or CD’s. The ministry has continued to grow and today, LifePointe Media ships CD’s to most of the 50 states and several foreign countries.

Summer Sixteen CCPO CIRCULATION VOL. 21, NO. 3 How Did I Get Here? The Answer: Sea-Level Rise Letter from the Director 2 Dr. Larry Atkinson CCPO’s Circulation is one of the few places that we can publish something without Just Swimmingly: A Farewell 3 the constraints of a scientific paper. What a relief! I thought I’d jot down some thoughts I’m having at this point in my career. Spring CCPO Outreach STEM4Girls 2016 4 For students, here is a lesson for you. Fifty years ago I was a chemist measuring methane in the ocean... Spring CCPO Outreach 5 I did not even remotely think that I would be studying sea-level rise and its effect on St. John the Apostle School humanity. Many years ago I read somewhere that researchers should change their line of research about every decade. The thinking was that you’ve learned all you Just the Facts 6-7 can using the skill set you have in a decade and it is time to move on. Quite often the “moving on” is because of funding opportunities or just plain chance but it sure leads down interesting paths. Spring CCPO Outreach 5 Boy Scout Merit Badge Program So what about sea-level rise and science? The coolest thing about the research that we are doing at CCPO on sea-level rise is that what we learn is immediately used by the users. And I mean immediately! In 2013 Tal Ezer published his paper (2) showing that local sea-level rise was related to slowing of the Gulf Stream.

  • Exploring Lesbian and Gay Musical Preferences and 'LGB Music' in Flanders
Observatorio (OBS*) Journal, vol.9 - nº2 (2015), 207-223 1646-5954/ERC123483/2015 207 Into the Groove - Exploring lesbian and gay musical preferences and 'LGB music' in Flanders Alexander Dhoest*, Robbe Herreman**, Marion Wasserbauer*** * PhD, Associate professor, 'Media, Policy & Culture', University of Antwerp, Sint-Jacobsstraat 2, 2000 Antwerp ([email protected]) ** PhD student, 'Media, Policy & Culture', University of Antwerp, Sint-Jacobsstraat 2, 2000 Antwerp ([email protected]) *** PhD student, 'Media, Policy & Culture', University of Antwerp, Sint-Jacobsstraat 2, 2000 Antwerp ([email protected]) Abstract The importance of music and music tastes in lesbian and gay cultures is widely documented, but empirical research on individual lesbian and gay musical preferences is rare and even fully absent in Flanders (Belgium). To explore this field, we used an online quantitative survey (N= 761) followed up by 60 in-depth interviews, asking questions about musical preferences. Both the survey and the interviews disclose strongly gender-specific patterns of musical preference, the women preferring rock and alternative genres while the men tend to prefer pop and more commercial genres. While the sexual orientation of the musician is not very relevant to most participants, they do identify certain kinds of music that are strongly associated with lesbian and/or gay culture, often based on the play with codes of masculinity and femininity. Our findings confirm the popularity of certain types of music among Flemish lesbians and gay men, for whom it constitutes a shared source of identification, as it does across many Western countries. The qualitative data, in particular, allow us to better understand how such music plays a role in constituting and supporting lesbian and gay cultures and communities.

  • KOOL & the GANG, Jersey City, N.J. in 1964, Ronald Bell and Robert
KOOL & THE GANG, Jersey City, N.J. In 1964, Ronald Bell and Robert “Kool” Bell joined Jersey City neighborhood friends Robert “Spike” Mickens, Dennis “Dee Tee” Thomas, Ricky Westfield, George Brown, and Charles Smith to create the Kool & the Gang sound - a unique blend of jazz, soul and funk. Throughout the seventies this blend produced a string of hits including “Jungle Boogie”, “Hollywood Swinging”, “Funky Stuff’ and “Summer Madness”. In 1979 the group penetrated the pop market by incorporating the smooth sounds of vocalist James “JT” Taylor with their infectious formula for making hits. Casey Kasem named Kool & the Gang the band of the eighties noting the bands steady stream of hits during the decade. “Ladies Night”, “Get Down on It” “Joanna” and the theme song to parties worldwide, “Celebration”, solidified Kool & the Gang’s musical legacy. Today, the group enjoys global fame and recognition and a following that spans generations due in part to the groups widely sampled catalogue. Kool & the Gang’s drum beats, bass, guitar and signature horn lines lace the tracks of numerous artists including the Beastie Boys, Jay-Z, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Cypress Hill, and P. Diddy. Kool & the Gang is the most sampled band in hip-hop by far. Their music is also featured on the soundtracks for Rocky, Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction, Wreck-lt Ralph and countless others. For fifty years, Kool & the Gang has continued to tour the world appearing with artists such as Kid Rock, Dave Matthews Band, Elton John, The Roots and a 50-city tour with Van Halen.
