AT MORE THAN 1,300 POUNDS, FRITOS® CORN CHIPS SETS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD® FOR LARGEST FRITOS CHILI PIE® AT STATE FAIR OF TEXAS®

As Part of its 80th Anniversary Celebration, Fritos Corn Chips Partners with Hormel® Chili to Set Record and Raises Funds for Wounded Warrior Project™

PLANO, Texas (October 1, 2012) – Thousands of excited fair attendees today gathered in Big Tex Circle at the State Fair of Texas® to watch the Fritos brand cook up the world’s largest Fritos Chili Pie® in celebration of Fritos® corn chips’ 80th anniversary. Weighing in at 1,325 pounds – featuring 635 bags of Fritos chips (10 1/2 ounces each), 660 cans of Hormel® Chili without Beans (15 ounces each) and 580 bags of shredded cheddar cheese (8 ounces each) – the Guinness World Records® title was officially set for the biggest-ever Fritos Chili Pie, which yielded approximately 5,000 single-serve samples for fair attendees. A mixture of Fritos corn chips, chili and cheddar cheese, Fritos Chili Pie has long been one of America’s favorite ways to enjoy the classic snack, which is a flagship product within PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division. As part of the 80th anniversary celebration, Fritos is also proudly partnering with Hormel Chili, the No.1 selling brand of chili in America, to support our troops through Wounded Warrior Project™ (WWP). From September 16 through October 13, consumers can look for special displays at local retailers featuring a $1-off coupon for combined purchase of Fritos corn chips and Hormel Chili. For every coupon redeemed, Fritos and Hormel Foods will donate $1 to WWP, up to $100,000, to honor and empower wounded warriors in the U.S. Armed Forces. The Guinness World Records® title attempt took place following the opening weekend of the State Fair of Texas. Fair attendees joined in on the fun as the over-sized Fritos Chili Pie received the finishing touches at the footsteps of famed fair mascot Big Tex himself. When the Guinness World Records title was set, an official adjudicator verified the accomplishment and announced the record. The tasty “pie,” along with a variety of ® beverages, was distributed to fairgoers eager to sample the record-breaking treat. “For 80 years, Fritos corn chips have been a beloved American snack,” said Tony Matta, vice president, marketing, Frito-Lay. “The Guinness World Records® title adds a new milestone to our proud history, and we are thrilled to be celebrating alongside Fritos corn chips fans today at the Page 2 of 3

State Fair of Texas.” The Fritos brand was born in 1932 when Elmer Doolin purchased a corn chips recipe from a local businessman and began making the first Fritos chips right from his mother’s kitchen with a converted potato ricer. The popularity of the snack catapulted in 1961 when he joined forces with H.W. Lay & Company to create Frito-Lay, Inc. Doolin’s mother, Daisy Dean Doolin, created recipes to help market Fritos corn chips by using them as an ingredient in a wide range of dishes, including her now-famous Fritos Chili Pie. Once a dish favored in small hometowns, Fritos Chili Pie is now served coast to coast, where fans from New York to Los Angeles relish it.
