Said Congregations discussed how God lends his aid to men for them to act; thus divine omnipotence and omniscience can be compatible with human freedom. A brief summary of the positions held by the two protagonists of the discussion will be given in the first part of the paper. The second part is an attempt to uphold the actuality of this scholastic debate for today’s philosophy of human sciences: we shall compare narrative history with the divine ‘science of vision’, and efficacious human techniques with God’s ‘middle science’. Keywords: middle science, omniscience, divine sciences, science of vision, human techniques 1. The Problem of how to make Human Freedom and God’s Omniscience and Omnipotence Compatible in late Spanish Scholasticism: Molina’s Concordia and Báñez’s Apology This paper begins by evoking the controversy that took place in 16th-century Spain concerning the nature and number of the so-called ‘divine sciences’. The debate took place in late scholastic theology, but goes back much earlier in history, from Aristotle’s De Interpretatione, through the Stoics, to Carneades of Cyrene, Priscillian, Peter Abelard, Wycliffe, St Augustine, St Anselm, St Thomas Aquinas, among others.

Nomads. Mediterranean Perspectives | 02 (2011-2012) _______________________________________________________________________________________________ MEDITERRANEAN PHILOSOPHY OR EUROMEDITERRANEAN PHILOSOPHY? Alejandro Carrera Tundidor Complutense University of Madrid Abstract.- In this paper we give an answer to the question: Mediterranean Philosophy or Euromediterranean Philosophy? The question arises by José Luís Abellán´s ideas about the mediterranean character of the philosophy, the mediterranean character of authentic Spanish Philosophy and that Spanish modern philosophers must develop a Mediterranean Philosophy. Before analysing Abellan´s ideas we scrutinize and evaluate Astrid Meltzer-Titel´s ideas about a Southern Humanistic Philosophy, which is based on three Spanish Philosophers´ writings: A. Ortiz -Osés, C.Thibeaut and F.J. Martín. It´s rejected the interpretation of History of the Spanish Philosophy (even the modern one) by Meltzer-Titel . Afterwards, we´re going to analyze critically the Abellán point of view which we accept in what defends, although not in what is rejected. To Abellán´s proposal we simply add “EURO-”, Therefore: Euromediterranean Philosophy. The “EURO-” is justified by having the Philosophy a european origin in the Classical Helade which was Euromediterranean. Keywords.- spanish philosophy, history of the spanish philosophy, mediterranean philosophy , euromediterranean philosophy, southern humanist philosophy, pretty one, leftover, unaware, unawarance. I´ll treat on this paper to determine if it´s acceptable the proposal of José Luís Abellán about Spanish Modern Philosophy has to be Mediterranean. It´s said, a philosophy that would be the display “modern” of a philosophy which would have its origin in the classical Greece,it would pass through Rome, Medieval Mediterranean Europe, Renaissance in the Mediterráneo, “modern age” Mediterranean and the contemporary age.

  • On the Structure of Bioethics As a Pragmatic Discipline
ON THE STRUCTURE OF BIOETHICS AS A PRAGMATIC DISCIPLINE DAVID ALVARGONZÁLEZ Abstract This paper analyzes certain aspects of the structure of bioethics as a discipline. It begins in Section 1 by arguing that bioethics is an academic discipline of a pragmatic nature. In Section 2, it puts forward a classification of the main problems, issues and concerns in bioethics, using this classification as a way to outline the limits and framework of the field. Pushing further, it contends in Section 3 that comprehensive treatment of any topic in bioethics requires that three normative dimensions (the ethical, moral and political) be taken into account. Ending in Section 4, it concludes that the classification of the issues and analysis of each issue's normative dimensions can provide valuable contributions towards understanding the sui generis structure of bioethics as a pragmatic discipline. Keywords: Bioethics structure, bioethics problems, bioethics disciplines, norms types. 1. Bioethics as a pragmatic discipline Following common usage in English, a discipline is a body of knowledge or skills that can be taught and learned. Techniques, technologies, sports, hobbies, arts, rhetoric, theology, law and philosophy, among many others, can be taught and learned and, therefore, can be formed into disciplines. In the context of human praxis and norms, disciplines imply a certain institutionalization, whereas non- human animals in the wild have no structured disciplines, although they may take part in a wide range of learning processes. Even further, any educational institution can invent any discipline it considers useful to be taught according to the demands of the society it serves. In this paper, I will start off from the assumption that bioethics is a discipline consolidated in the academy, where the diverse origins of its practitioners (philosophers, historians, lawyers, social scientists, biomedical researchers, clinicians, nurses, theologians, journalists, policy analysts, insurance brokers and businessmen, among others) reveals its interdisciplinary nature.

To do this, we analyze the relations existing between Marx, Rubin and the theory of science of the Spanish Marxist philosopher Gustavo Bueno.
