Compare and Contrast Essay Two Creatures; One Battle Edward Cullen and Jacob Black are both two fictional characters in a novel, Twilight. The novel is about the rivalry between two mythical creatures, a werewolf and a vampire, and their battle over their love for a mortal, Bella Swan. Bella is stuck in a love triangle with her best friend, Jacob, and her true love, Edward. Although similar in their love interest, Edward and Jacob contrast in personality, species, and lives. Born to Edward and Elizabeth Masen in the early 1900s, Edward lived a normal life until he was changed into a vampire by Dr. Carlisle Cullen. He was later adopted by the doctor himself and his wife, Esme after his birth parents were deceased. Although a vampire, Edward makes an effort to control his cravings for human blood and only feeds off animal blood. Unlike most vampires, he isn’t vindictive and evil. In fact, he is romantic, caring, and sometimes a little jealous. Edward tried to live his life like any normal teenager, and therefore enrolled in Forks High School, where he became irrevocably in love with a girl named Bella. Overtime, the feeling became mutual. Even though Edward and Bella both knew being together can endanger them and their family, they could not change their feelings towards each other. Even though it seemed like everyone was against their relationship, they stayed together and defied the universe. Jacob Black, on the other hand, is everything Edward is not. Born to Billy and Sarah Black, Jacob is of the Quileute Tribe of Native Americans in La Push, Washington. The people of the Quileute Tribe are descendants of werewolves, therefore Jacob and his family can transform into werewolves. This causes a conflict, because according to myths, werewolves and vampires are complete enemies. Jacob is a kind guy, but can also be temperamental and very jealous. Jacob and Bella have known each other since they were kids, but never really bonded. .
