Please bring your pink copy to claim your exhibit after the Fair.

DIVISIONS Within each department there are divisions based on age or level of expertise. You must designate which division applies to you. 1. Junior Division: For exhibitors age 16 and under. If you circle this division you must also state your grade at the time the exhibit was grown/made. Grade level will be taken into consideration in the judging for this division. If you fail to fill in your grade, you will automatically be placed in the highest age group. Junior-division categories include: Preschool through 2nd grade; 3rd through 6th grade; 7th through 9th grade; 10th through 12th grade. 2. Senior Division: For exhibitors 17 years of age and up. 3. Professional: For exhibitors who have taught for a fee or sold more than $500 in merchandise in one calendar year. 4. Group: For exhibits created by 2 or more people. RIBBONS Ribbons will be awarded as follows: Department Grand Champion - Large Purple Rosette Junior Division Champion - Large Blue Rosette Senior Division Champion - Large Blue Rosette Professional Division Champion - Large Blue Rosette Group Division Champion - Large Blue Rosette Best of Class - Blue Rosette First Place - Blue Ribbon Second Place - Red Ribbon Third Place - White Ribbon

Each Lot is judged and places given. A "Best of Class" is chosen from among the blue ribbon winners within the same Class. Each Division Champion is selected from the Best of Class winners in the same division. There may be a Champion chosen for each division: Junior, Senior, Professional and Group. The Department Champion will be chosen from the division winners. PREMIUMS Premium payments are made only in the Junior Division. Prizes are awarded in sponsored departments. Departments judged on the American System:

First Place - $3.00 Second Place - $2.00 Third Place - $1.00

Judging results are posted on each exhibit tag and posted on the fair website.

6 Methods of Judging:

American System: Used in all Departments except the two specifically for youth entries and Creative Writing & Music. The American System considers product standards and fulfillment of exhibit requirements. The judge inspects all exhibits in a Lot and comparatively ranks them, selecting only one first place, one second place, and one third place. All ribbons will be awarded on the individual worth of the exhibit. In no case will an exhibit be given a ribbon that it would not merit in full competition.

Copies of judging score cards for each Department are available by request from the Fair Office.

Each exhibit must be accompanied by an Exhibit Tag, which are available at the Fair Office or from your Town Representative.

Exhibitor identification numbers will be assigned by the Town Representative or the Fair Office. Only one number per person will be issued, either a new number or your number from past years.

12 DEPARTMENT B - FLOWERS Entry Period: WEDNESDAY, July 28, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Judging: WEDNESDAY, July 28, 1 p.m.-8 p.m. Judging System: American

- Please consult the Entry Procedure for general entry rules. - All specimens must have appropriate self-foliage attached to the stem of the specimen unless otherwise noted, with the exception of gladioli, dahlia and begonia classes. - A tightly closed bud or one that has not sufficiently expanded to show the typical form and beauty of the coming bloom is not acceptable as a bloom. - A spike is a specimen with short or long influorescence, usually unbranched except in delphinium. Florets surround the main axis at close intervals with buds developing on the elongated tip, as in lupines, delphinium and gladiolus. - A spray consists of one stem (not a branch), with or without a central flower or bud. Any erect spray with the lead bloom open will be acceptable. Nemesia, cosmos and godetia are spray types. - Stalk designates a stiff stem, branching or not, with one or more flowers such as clarkia, annual larkspur and lily. - Stem is the main axis of a plant. - Bloom is used to designate an individual flower terminating a stem, such as exhibition type roses. If a Lot already exists for a category, “Other” may not be used. “Other” varieties must be named. - When 2 or more entries of the same type are entered, a new Lot will be created. - Be sure and follow guidelines for each Lot as to number of items to enter. If 3 are called for, 1 or 5 may disqualify, only 3 will be accepted. - Grooming: Flowers and plants should be groomed to remove dirt and spray residue, as well as dead foliage. Specimens may be groomed in any way which does not alter their typical features. - Indicate on tag if hothouse grown. - Town Reps or out-of-town exhibitors: Please notify the Fair (766-2476) how many exhibits are coming on airlift. - Classes and Lots are the same for each Division.
