Dear Contestant,

CONGRATULATIONS for entering one of the TOP barrel races in the WORLD!

You will be running for over $100,000 in cash and prizes. We are excited that you and your family have chosen to join us at the Josey Ranch for all the fun and festivities this year! We are expecting hundreds of spectators, in addition to media coverage from television, radio, local newspapers, and national magazines.

There will be a lot of excitement this year at the Josey Jr. World Barrel Race, one of the most exciting barrel races in the country!

Barrel Race Format

The Josey Jr. World Barrel Race uses the 4D format. The top 15 from each division on each day will advance to the Clean Slate Finals on Sunday. Those qualifying in the “first go” will automatically be in the finals. If the contestant double qualifies, we will move down in line from the “second go.” If you qualify the first day, running the second day is at your discretion. If you qualify the first day and decide NOT to run the second day, PLEASE LET THE SECRETARY KNOW!

Now, let’s talk sponsors…

Big Tex/Cimmaron Trailers has donated a beautiful horse trailer to the Josey Reunion Champion this year. We are very excited to present this trailer to the barrel Racer with the fastest time in the short go. Randy Domino and Mitzi Long will be at the ranch to speak about their trailers, so be sure to stop by and visit with them. You will want to join us in welcoming all of our corporate sponsors who help make this and many other great Josey events possible. Lifewave/Aculife will be donating $5000 added money. Sandi and Jay Thurston will be on the ranch representing Lifewave/Aculife. Jill Holloman with Circle Y of Yoakum will be here to show the wonderful Josey Ultimate Saddles, including the new “Hip hugger” and all the other great equipment they make. David Fillebrown and Courtney Dyer of Priefert will also be on site. You can see our Priefert Round Pen and Priefert stalls throughout the ranch. Josey Ranch is a certified Priefert dealer and Priefert catalogs are available in the Western Store. Dale Steege from United Vet Equine will be here to help you find the perfect joint supplement for your equine athlete. Purina Mills nutrition specialist, Scott Campbell, will be on hand to help you find the perfect feed to meet your horse’s nutritional needs. Bennie Emmons with Supreme Western Products, will also be in the big tent with items for both horse and rider. We say a great big, “THANK YOU” to Resistol for keeping our tractor drivers, announcer, alleyway keepers, and Team Josey instructors looking good. In our Western Store you will find some great new designs and products from Panhandle Slim and Cowgirl Tuff. We are so pleased that Boot Barn is the new sponsor of the top 40 champion’s Cake Party this year, and we are very proud of Bob Berg Designs for designing our beautiful championship buckles. We are pleased to also announce that from our sponsor, Spalding Lab, Margaret Pinalto will be joining us during the event. This year Aculife/Lifewave will be adding money to the Reunion to be divided between the patched horse winners of the four D’s. To be eligible for the bonus money, your horse must have a free evaluation by Jay Thurston at the Aculife/Lifewave promotional trailer, and applying Aculife patches for pain, calming, or performance. If you are already using Aculife, still check in with Jay Thurston so you will be qualified.

Lots of great prizes will be given to the TOP 10 CONTESTANTS in each division, thanks to our wonderful sponsors. The TOP BARREL RACER IN EACH DIVISION will win a beautiful trophy saddle. Saddles will include some of the greatest saddle makers, such as Circle Y of Yoakum, Billy Cook, and Jerry Beagley, all offering prize saddles for Reunion winners.

Get Involved, Barrel Racers Need YOU

Please help us raise more money for our contestants. If you know of potential sponsors who would help in making the dreams of many young barrel racers come true. Please encourage them to become involved and being a sponsor of one of our Josey events OR Josey contestants.

In 1966, champion barrel racer, Martha Arthur married rodeo champion calf roper, R.E. Josey. The following year they held the very first barrel racing / school in the nation. Forty eight years and well over 150,000 students later, one will still often find waiting lists to attend a Josey Clinic.

In the spring of 1981, R.E. and Martha Josey held their first barrel race at the Josey Ranch in Marshall, Texas, for barrel racers age 20 and under. The first Josey Jr. World Barrel Race was very well received and an immediate success. The care of the arena provided as close to perfect conditions as possible for barrel racers and their horses. The competition still grows each year with contestants traveling from far away as Australia to enter the event.

Twelve years later, in 1993, considering the thousands of Josey Clinic and School Alumni, a second major barrel race was introduced at The Josey Ranch. This was a competition strictly for Josey students and former students of any age to reunite at The Josey Ranch; a homecoming, so to speak. It was named The Josey Reunion Barrel Race, and each year as the number of Josey alumni grows, so do the entries into this great event as the horse trailers are once again in route to the Josey Ranch of Marshall, Texas.

In the first fifty years of the Josey Clinics, schools, and barrel races, all 50 of the United States of America have been represented at the Josey Ranch. The efforts of R.E. and Martha Josey, Team Josey, and the Josey Ranch staff are to make each year bigger and better for The Josey Reunion and Jr. World competitors, with more prizes, larger payouts, and more scholarship money. Our corporate and local sponsors have been wonderful supporting our events, but this year we strive to award larger prizes to our barrel racers than ever before in the history of these events. The Josey Reunion and Jr. World events offer prizes to the top 40 of each competition along with cash prizes.

Many of these barrel racers (of all ages) work year round and save to make the trip to Texas in hopes of winning one of the prestigious events. They come to the ranch filled with passion for the sport they live and breathe. With stars in their eyes, and big dreams for the future, they make their runs with all their heart hoping they will stand tall as champions. Help us keep these dreams alive for so many boys, girls, men, and women.

We are offering BRONZE Sponsorships for our events for $100. With your sponsor agreement you will be assigned a contestant in the Josey Jr. World competition. Your name, or business name, will be announced as a sponsor each time your contestant makes a run during the events. If your contestant wins the competition, YOU will win a trophy Bob Berg Custom belt buckle for being their sponsor. The Bob Berg buckle, valued at just under $500 will read. “Josey Reunion (or) Josey Jr World Champions sponsor. (There will be one sponsor buckle for each event. If there are multiple sponsors, a drawing will decide the buckle winner.) One hundred dollars may not seem like much money to some, but collectively it can offer prizes and cash back that could change the life of a barrel racer.

Please take a look at the attached sponsor application. If you would like to be involved in the Josey Jr. World Barrel Race by becoming a BRONZE sponsor, your efforts would be greatly appreciated and help build the dreams of the great young participants of this sport.
