American Gods - Wikipedia According to Gaiman, American Gods is not based on Diana Wynne Jones 's Eight Days of Luke , "although they bear an odd relationship, like second cousins once removed or something". When working on the structure of a story linking gods and days of the week, he realised that this idea had already been used in Eight Days of Luke. He abandoned the story, but later used the idea when writing American Gods to depict Wednesday and Shadow meeting on the god's namesake day. In his introduction to Fritz Leiber's The Knight and Knave of Swords Gaiman acknowledges Leiber's portrayal of Odin and Loki had "definitely smudged into" and informed his take on the characters. While Gaiman was writing American Gods , his publishers set up a promotional web site featuring a weblog in which Gaiman described the day-to-day process of writing, revising, publishing, and promoting the novel. After the novel was published, the website evolved into a more general Official Neil Gaiman Web Site. As of , [update] Gaiman regularly adds to the weblog, describing his daily life and the writing, revising, publishing, or promoting of his current projects. On 28 February , Gaiman announced on his journal that for one month the complete text of American Gods would be available to the public on his publisher's website. It won the Geffen Award. The tenth anniversary text is identical to the signed and numbered limited edition released in by Hill House Publishers, and to the edition from Headline, Gaiman's publisher in the UK since Two audio versions of the book were produced and published by Harper Audio : an unabridged version of the original published edition, read by George Guidall, was released in A full cast audiobook version of the tenth anniversary edition, including the author's preferred text and 12, additional words, was released in Gaiman described this edition as 'the cleanest text there has ever been' of the novel. Dark Horse Comics publishes a series of comic books based on the novel. Starz developed a television series from the novel with Bryan Fuller and Michael Green. At the end of season 1, Fuller stepped down as showrunner and was replaced by Jesse Alexander. The two had previously worked together on Star Trek: Discovery and Hannibal. Gaiman's next novel, Anansi Boys , was conceived before American Gods and shares a character, Mr. Nancy Anansi , the spider god of African legend. Gaiman had plans for a sequel even while writing the first book and has said that he is likely to focus on the New Gods in the sequel. In addition to the planned sequel, Gaiman has written two short story sequels featuring Shadow Moon. It takes place a year later in Derbyshire 's Peak District. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. • CAST BIOGRAPHIES Season 2 RICKY WHITTLE
CAST BIOGRAPHIES Season 2 RICKY WHITTLE (SHADOW MOON) Ricky Whittle was born in Oldham, near Manchester in the north of England. Growing up, Whittle excelled in various sports representing his country at youth level in football, rugby, American football and athletics. After being scouted by both Arsenal and Celtic Football Clubs, injuries forced him to pursue a law degree at Southampton University. It was here he began modeling, becoming the face of a Reebok campaign in 2000. Whittle left university to pursue an acting career and soon joined several action-packed seasons as bad boy Ryan Naysmith in Sky One’s “Dream Team.” Following that, Whittle quickly joined the U.K.’s hugely popular long-running drama, “Hollyoaks,” in which he played rookie cop Calvin Valentine to acclaim across 400+ episodes. In 2010, Whittle made the decision to relocate to California and, within months of settling in, booked the role of Captain George East in the romantic-comedy feature Austenland for Sony Pictures, which was produced by Twilight creator Stephanie Meyer. Additionally, he was soon cast in a major recurring role in VH1’s popular series, “Single Ladies.” Another major recurring role followed on The CW’s popular post-apocalyptic sci-fi series “The 100.” Whittle’s character, Lincoln, immediately became a fan-favorite character, so he was upped to a series regular. Simultaneously, Whittle also had a recurring arc as Daniel Zamora in ABC’s “Mistresses.” In 2016, after a vigorous casting process, Whittle won the coveted role of Shadow Moon in Starz’s “American Gods.” In 2017, Whittle was seen opposite Sanaa Lathan in the Netflix feature film Nappily Ever After, which is based on the novel of the same name by Trisha R.

The second oldest--and most prestigious--awards in the field, they quickly were nicknamed the Hugos (officially since 1958), in honor of Hugo Gernsback (1884 -1967), founder of Amazing Stories, the first professional magazine devoted entirely to science fiction. No awards were given in 1954 at the World Science Fiction Con in San Francisco, but they were restored in 1955 at the Clevention (in Cleveland) and included six categories: novel, novelette, short story, magazine, artist, and fan magazine.

Le Guin's Farthest Shore and Tehanu Len Hatfield In literature as in "real life," women, children, and animals are the obscure matter upon which Civilization erects itself, phallologically. That they are Other is (vide Lacan et al.) the foundation of language, the Father Tongue. By climbing up into his head and shutting out every voice but his own, "Civilized Man" has gone deaf. He can't hear the wolf calling him brother—not Master, but brother. He can't hear the earth calling him child—not Father, but son. He hears only his own words making up the world. He can't hear the animals, they have nothing to say. Children babble, and have to be taught how to climb up into their heads and shut the doors of perception. No use teaching woman at all, they talk all the time, of course, but never say anything. This is the myth of Civilization, embodied in monotheisms which assign soul to Man alone. • Fiction List
Science Fiction Book List The following are books that show a variety of ideas about life in the future. You may choose one of these books or you may choose one not on this list as long as you clear it with me first. The Companions by Sheri S.Tepper. 2003. 549 pages. Fans will hail Hugo nominee Tepper's compelling story of an ordinary woman flung into extraordinary circumstances, but interesting ideas left undeveloped, awkward transitions from first to third person and unfair withholding of information may annoy others. Earth, incredibly overcrowded, has passed a new law prohibiting nonhuman life on the planet. Jewel Delis, dog keeper and member of an underground animal-rights group, wrangles her way to the planet Moss with several dogs, ostensibly to help her unpleasant half brother Paul, a linguist, figure out the peculiar language of the planet's varied inhabitants. Jewel finds Moss every bit as odd as advertised, with strange and dangerous plants, fantastic dances performed by creatures that may or may not be intelligent, and a group of humans descended from the crew of a spaceship that crash-landed years earlier. The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin. 1974. Won both the Hugo Award and the Nebula Award in 1975. The story takes place on the fictional planet Urras and its moon Anarres (since Anarres is massive enough to hold an atmosphere, this is often described as a double planet system). In order to forestall an anarcho-syndical workers' rebellion, the major Urrasti states gave Anarres and a guarantee of non-interference to the revolutionaries, approximately two hundred years before the events of The Dispossessed.

'American Gods' Rise for Season 2 on Starz 04.30.2018 American Gods will return to Starz in 2019, but in the meantime, the premium cable network doesn't want fans to forget its cast of anti-heroes and oddballs. "Things are going to get darker. Things are going to get more dangerous," promises creator and executive producer Neil Gaiman. Production on the new season kicked off last week at Wisconsin roadside attraction, The House on the Rock, which is a quintessential location in Gaiman's novel by the same name. "The first season was all about getting to the House on the Rock," says Gaiman. "It's amazing to see everyone back, and to be entering the next stage of the story with the best bunch of actors around, along with some inspired filmmakers." The cast includes Ricky Whittle (The 100, Austenland) as Shadow Moon, Ian McShane (Deadwood, Ray Donovan) as Mr. Wednesday, Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, Legend) as Laura Moon, Pablo Schreiber (Orange is the New Black, The Brink) as Mad Sweeney, Orlando Jones (Madiba, Sleepy Hallow) as Mr. Nancy, Yetide Badaki (Aquarius, Masters of Sex) as Bilquis, Bruce Langley (Deadly Waters) as Technical Boy, Crispin Glover (Back to the Future) as Mr. World, Cloris Leachman (Malcom in The Middle, Raising Hope) as Zorya Vechernyaya, Peter Stormare (Fargo, Prison Break) as Czernobog, Mousa Kraish (Superbad, Fast & Furious) as The Jinn, Omid Abtahi (Argo) as Salim, Chris Obi (Snow White and the Huntsman, The Counselor) as Anubis, and Demore Barnes (Waco, 12 Monkeys) as Mr. Ibis. RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA BY ARTHUR C. CLARKE PDF, EPUB, EBOOK BookRags | 9781630094454 | | | | | Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke PDF Book Our main character draws parallels to the voyages of James Cook, as he and his team begin traversing this cylindrical world. People go and check it out. It's fun to read about how they slowly find out about Rama and what's inside. We have put men next we need a woman! The real rating is not 5 stars by the way; it is only 4. Clarke - and maybe this common to his writing, or just to this book I'll need to find out - seems bizarrely indifferent to the niceties of characterisation. Much as I enjoyed the first Rama book, the second was just plain awful. The basic plot is that a big- ass mystery space ship shows up and humanity has to figure out why and what to do with it. Much of the time it felt like I was reading a textbook, though often enough Clarke's style was worse. A closer look reveals a startling mystery: the object, christened Rama, is not a product of nature at all, but an enormous metal cylinder, clearly crafted with purpose and by intelligent beings. Archived from the original on 17 January The airlocks open into the hub of the massive bowl shaped cap at the North Pole, with three 8-kilometre long stair systems, called Alpha, Beta, and Gamma by the crew, leading to the plain. There are worse things than pulp science fiction, and this is about as good as pulp science fiction gets.

Revenue is also the most important and intuitionistic feedback to producers, directors and actors. Therefore it is worth for us to put effort on analyzing what factors correlate to revenue, so that producers, directors and actors know how to get higher revenue on next movie by focusing on most correlated factors. Our project focuses on anaylzing all kinds of factors that correlated to revenue, for example, genres, elements in the movie, popularity, release month, runtime, vote average, vote count on website and cast etc. After analysis, we can clearly know what are the crucial factors to a movie's revenue and our analysis can be used as a guide for people shooting movies who want to earn higher renveue for their next movie. They can focus on those most correlated factors, for example, shooting specific genre and hire some actors who have higher average revenue.
