Uncovering the Anti-Queer Sentiment in the Dianetic Perspective At present, there is a groundswell of public sensational interest in the subject of Scientology; and, in fact, in the time since I began this research paper, a nine-episode documentary series has premiered and reached finale on A&E titled “Scientology and the Aftermath”— a personal project hosted by sitcom celebrity, ex-Scientologist, and author of Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology, Leah Remini.1 I could not begin to enumerate the myriad exposés/memoirs of ex-Scientologists that have been published in recent years nor could I emphasize enough the rampant conspiracy theories that are at the disposal of any curious mind on what many have termed “the cult” of Scientology. -

TRANSLATION ENG>ITA SCIENTOLOGY DEFECTORS: A TIMELINE FROM ALLEGATIONS OF ABUSE TO LACK OF SUPPORT FOR LGBT RIGHTS, A LOOK INTO WHY 10 FORMER SCIENTOLOGISTS DECIDED TO LEAVE THE CHURCH The Church of Scientology might be one of the most secretive organizations in the country, but there's one thing it can't seem to keep quiet: defections. Since its creation in 1953, a string of celebrities and higher-ups have left the church. For years, those who defected largely kept quiet about what they'd seen on the inside – but increasingly, that's changed. In 2009, a St. Petersburg Times series revealed a host of former high-level executives who shared their stories. Then, in 2015, an HBO documentary called Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief – based on a 2013 book by journalist and screenwriter Lawrence Wright – told the stories of many of these defectors. Just months after that film was released, sitcom star and former Scientologist Leah Remini wrote a book about her 30 years in the church, and this year, followed it up with her A&E show Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, in which she tells her story and interviews fellow defectors. Now, it seems, Scientology's greatest blessings – its celebrity followers and devoted lifers – have become their biggest liability. But how far back do the defections go? Here, 10 people whose lives revolved around Scientology –then made the conscious decision to leave. TRANSLATION ITA>ENG CHE COS’È LA CHIESA DI SCIENTOLOGY INTERNAZIONALE? Cole: How the Church of Scientology Lures in Closeted Individuals Cole 1 McKenna Cole Professor White REL 215 May 9, 2017 How the Church of Scientology Lures in Closeted Individuals Using Kate Bornstein's memoir, Queer and Present Danger, as a primary source, HBO’s Alex Gibney’s documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief and several other articles and interview; I will be analyzing the manner in which the Church of Scientology provided closeted homosexual and other ‘sexual deviants’ a false sense of hope. This is done through the promise of a structured community and the possibility of ridding individuals of their homosexual tendencies, which during this time was seen as a mental and physical illness. In 1950 L. Ron Hubbard, an American science fiction author, published his groundbreaking novel titled, Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health. -

The Mind Benders Scientology by Cyril Vosper THE BOOK THEY TRIED TO BAN A fast, furious, funny, violent exposure of a major global cult "Indicates quackery of a type which might be dangerous behind closed doors ..." The Organisations of Scientology Epilogue Appendix Acknowledgements Plates (from the 1971 Neville Spearman edition, SBN 85435 061 6) The author's experience of Scientology stretches over a period of 14 years from when it was a little known and interesting form of psychotherapy, to September 1968 when he was declared an S.P. (Suppressive Person). This meant that he was considered 'Fair Game'. As Sir Elwyn Jones Q.C. said in the recent Scientology libel case, S.Ps. 'could be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist. He could be tricked, sued or lied to, or destroyed.' The direct cause of this action was the breakdown of the author's marriage and separation of his children. Mr. Vosper, who was a senior official at the Scientology H.Q. at Saint Hill, East Grinstead, Sussex, believes that it is time for a close and accurate inspection of Scientology so that people know the full facts before they consider joining it. -
