6 www.wjcenter.org October 2020 - The WJC Review SOJAC IN 5781 Connecting Through Mitzvot SHARON SILVER & SONDRA LEVY CO-CHAIRS, SOJAC Over the past few months we have become increasingly aware of the ways in which we are connected. COVID-19 and the need to confront poverty, discrimination and systemic racism have shown us: We are interconnected. We need each other and we know it.

Mitzvot allow us to actually do things that connect us to each other, to neighbors and strangers, to our Jewish values and traditions. SOJAC?s purpose is, in part, to facilitate ways for WJC members to perform mitzvot. Here are things you can start doing in 5781:

- Complete the online Mitzvah Pledge Card. Find it in WJC Weekly emails, on the WJC website and social media. Not comfortable with online formats? Send your choices to Edeet Soroker at [email protected] or call the WJC office at 914-698-2960. - Choose ?Help the Hungry.? Donate healthy foods to the Feeding Westchester High Holy Days Giving project. We will be collecting only the following at WJC until October 31: Brown or White Rice, Whole Grain Pasta, Shelf Stable Milk, Canned Fish/Meat, Canned Vegetables, Peanut Butter, Canned or Dried Beans, Whole Grain Cereal, and Canned or Dried Fruit. - Choose ?Interracial/ Interfaith/ People of Color Engagement and Relations? on the Mitzvah Card. Read one or more of these suggested books: So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo or Black, White and Jewish: Autobiography of a Shifting Self, by Rebecca Walker.

- Connect with our elders at Project Ezra. Choose ?Project Ezra- Intergenerational/Jewish Peoplehood Events."

We will contact you with specific things you and your family can do now! VIRTUAL SONG CIRCLE Every other Thursday from October 22-December 17 at 7:30pm

Join Westchester Jewish Center and Temple Israel Center for a Virtual Song Circle led by Cantors Shoshi and Ethan Levin Goldberg.

We will build community through song, both by learning new melodies and practicing familiar tunes. Each session will begin with a meditation to help prepare for Shabbat.
