20181015 Hollywood Road 2018 TDN TE V.3 Online Published TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT NOTICE Special Traffic and Transport Arrangements in Central and Western District Notice is hereby given that, to facilitate holding of an event, the following special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in Central and Western District between 3 and 4 November 2018 (Saturday and Sunday): (I) Road Closure and Traffic Diversion (A) The following roads will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic from 6.00 am to 10.00 pm on 4 November 2018: a) The section of Hollywood Road between Aberdeen Street and Arbuthnot Road; b) The section of Lyndhurst Terrace between Gage Street and Hollywood Road; c) The section of Old Bailey Street between Staunton Street and Hollywood Road; d) The section of Graham Street between Staunton Street and Hollywood Road; e) The section of Peel Street between Staunton Street and Gage Street; f) The section of Elgin Street between Staunton Street and Hollywood Road; g) Vehicles exceeding 9 metres in length and except for access are prohibited from entering Lyndhurst Terrace between Wellington Street and Gage Street; h) Vehicles exceeding 9 metres in length and except for access are prohibited from entering Hollywood Road between Lok Ku Road and Aberdeen Street; and i) Vehicles exceeding 9 meters in length on Caine Road eastbound will be prohibited from turning left into Old Bailey Street northbound. (B) The following temporary traffic diversions will be implemented during the above road closure: a) Vehicles on Queensway westbound and Cotton Tree Drive southbound heading for Wyndham Street will be diverted via Cotton Tree Drive southbound, Upper Albert Road westbound and Arbuthnot Road northbound; b) Vehicles (except exceeding 5.5 tonnes in gross vehicle weight) on Queensway westbound and Cotton Tree Drive southbound heading for Wyndham Street will be diverted via Cotton Tree Drive southbound, Upper Albert Road westbound and Glenealy northbound; c) Vehicles (except exceeding 9 metres in length) on Queensway westbound and Cotton Tree Drive southbound heading for Staunton Street will be diverted via Cotton Tree Drive southbound, Garden Road southbound, Robinson Road westbound, Castle Road eastbound, Caine Road eastbound and Old Bailey Street northbound; The WPI team surveyed 16 waterfront districts, four in-depth, assessing their walkability using a tool created by the research team and conducted preference surveys to understand the perceptions of Hong Kong pedestrians. Because pedestrians value the shortest, safest, least-crowded, and easiest to navigate routes, this study found that confusing routes, unsafe or indirect connections, and a lack of amenities detract from the walkability in Hong Kong. Medication Bring a kit with all your medications, including extra epinephrine auto-injectors. Also carry an Emergency Care Plan that outlines recommended treatment in case of an allergic reaction, is signed by a physician and includes emergency contact information. Be sure to bring extra copies with you and keep your plan in a place where others can find it. It is important that you and your travel companions understand what to do in case of an emergency. You can download and print an anaphylaxis pamphlet that teaches how to react during anaphylaxis at www.allergyhk.org/?p=619. Communicate clearly with the airline to allow you carry your epinephrine auto-injectors on the plane. Bring printed proof of your permission when you check in, because airport ground staff might have different expectations despite your having already confirmed your needs. It is recommended that you also show the prescription label from the pharmacy. You should have your doctor complete a Travel Plan that confirms your food allergy and travel requirements. Ask your doctor to write prescriptions that you can carry with you. Epinephrine auto-injectors are available in Hong Kong.     Discriminatory Zoning in Colonial Hong Kong: A r eview of the post-war literature and some f ur ther evidence f or an economic theor y of discr imination Abstract TYPE OF PAPER: RESEARCH PAPER STRUCTURED ABSTRACT Purpose: This paper argues that racially discriminatory zoning in Colonial Hong Kong could have been a form of protectionism driven by economic considerations. Design/Methodology/Approach: This paper was based on a review of the relevant ordinances, literature, and public information, notably data obtained from the Land Registry and telephone directories. Findings: This paper reveals that many writings on racial matters in Hong Kong were not a correct interpretation or presentation of facts. It shows that after the repeal of the discriminatory laws in 1946r, an increasing number of people, both Chinese and European, were living in the Peak district. Besides, Chinese were found to be acquiring land even under the discriminatory law for Barker Road during the mid-1920s and became, after 1946, the majority landlords by the mid-1970s. This testifies to the argument that the Chinese could compete economically with Europeans for prime residential premises in Hong Kong. Research Implications: This paper lends further support to the Lawrence-Marco proposition raised in Environment and Planning B: Planning and Design by Lai and Yu (2001), which regards segregation zoning as a means to reduce the effective demand of an economically resourceful social group. Practical Implications: This paper shows how title documents for land and telephone directories can be used to measure the degree of racial segregation. Originality/Value: This paper is the first attempt to systematically re-interpret English literature on racially discriminatory zoning in Hong Kong’s Peak area using reliable public information from Crown Leases and telephone directories.
