It certainly is an honour to be the host city for this competition. Our city has deep agricultural roots, and with the most productive land in Canada as well as an innovative ag-tech industry, our community continues to be shaped by the agricultural sector. I would like to thank all of the organizers, sponsors, judges and volunteers too for their work in making this a successful event. Your efforts make a difference in the lives of our youth and their communities. I hope you have time to explore our city while you’re here. 22018018 JUDGESJUDGES Kevin McGriskin - Conformation Judge Kevin along with his wife, Becky and three children, Avery, Wade and Mallory, operate Kentville Holsteins and Jerseys in Melancthon, Ontario. Kentville Holsteins is a Master Breeder herd which is currently milking 40 Holsteins and Jerseys. Kentville has had multiple All-Canadian and All-Ontario nominations in both Holstein and Jersey breeds. Most notably, Kentville Candy Tequila who was nominated All-Canadian for 4 consecutive years and Kentville Lumineer Rosabel who was Nominated All-Canadian Summer Yearling in 2017. Throughout his judging career, Kevin has judged multiple shows throughout Ontario, Alberta and the United States. Kevin has also had a career fi tting cattle around the world. He is proud to say that he has clipped multiple Grand and Supreme Champions, including at World Dairy Expo, Royal Agriculture Winter Fair and Dairy Week in Australia.

Bobby Jarrell - Showmanship Judge Bobby with his wife Jennifer and three daughters Charlotte, Sidney and Felicity, operate RJ Farms in Corbyville, Ontario, along with his parents Robert and April Jarrell under the RJF prefi x. The 700 acre farm, consists of 200 head of purebred Jerseys and Holsteins, of which approximately 90 are milking cows. The Master Breeder herd has a classifi cation breakdown of 65 EX, 35 VG and 5 GP with an average score of 88.9. The farm has had many show ring accolades over the years highlighted by being awarded Premier Breeder at the Royal for Jerseys in 2012 & 2013 and Red and White Holsteins in 2008. RJ Farms was also home to the 2013 and 2016 Jersey Canadian Cow of the Year. Bobby is an offi cial judge with both Jersey and Holstein Canada and offi ciated many shows across Ontario and Quebec. He has judged multiple county and regional 4-H championship shows including the Britespan 4-H Invitational Show and Eastgen Showcase. He is a Past President of Jersey Ontario and sits on the Jersey Canada Show committee. He also volunteers with 4-H and coaches his daughters in hockey.

Mike & Gina Haambuckers - Clipping Judges Mike & Gina Haambuckers will be this years Clipping Judges during the 34th annual WCC event in British Columbia. Michael and Gina were both involved in 4-H and WCC with Team BC. Both are currently involved with their families dairy farms and own a few Jerseys and Holsteins under their own prefi x, ‘Sunny Hill’ and exhibit their cattle across western Canada. Michael also works for WestGen as a Genetic Advisor in the Okanagan region.

Logan Chalack Memorial Award Since 2016 WCC has presented an award based on personality, leadership, team work and work ethic. This award was started in memory of Logan Chalack of Wendon Holsteins, a past WCC participant and Holstein Breeder. Logan passed away on June 28, 2016, after a short battle with cancer. He had a great passion for cattle breeding & livestock genetics and was a great supporter of Western Canadian genetics. Logan was a great judge of cattle and had amazing cow sense. Logan’s life was much too short, but we can all take a page from his story in that he lived every day and each moment to the fullest. He fi lled it with laughter, fun, and adventure and passion for his family, friends and his livelihood.

he Western Canadian Classic Junior Dairy Show was started by a group of volunteers from BC, Alberta, TSaskatchewan and Manitoba. Th e fi rst committee consisted of Bruno Giacomazzi, Gordon Rendle, John Blair, Carol Wright, Dwayne Congdon, Don Chalack, Larry Brack, Dale Strudwick, Glenn Gurr and Desmond Donohoe. Th e committee designed a concept of hosting a competitive show dashed with social functions to promote friendly interaction between participants for all four provinces. A set of objectives was established and these have been met over and over again each year. ∞ To provide a learning experience for our dairy youth ∞ An opportunity for friendly competition ∞ To stimulate friendships amongst Western Canadian young dairy enthusiasts ∞ An opportunity for agri-business to participate in our youth today ∞ An opportunity for your youth to learn from agri-business ∞ To promote the dairy industry to the public ∞ To help maintain or stimulate interest in agriculture Th e fi rst WCC was held in 1985 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Th e show consisted of three showmanship classes, three conformation classes, judging and pedigree competitions, best of three class, and stall competition. Over the years the Classic has grown and matured and now consists of; three showmanship classes, six conformation classes, judging and pedigree competitions, a dairy science quiz which involves general dairy anatomy and nutrition questions, Best of Th ree class, Stall Competition, Clipping Competition, Highest Overall Individual and the coveted Premier Province Award.
