TENTATIVE MINUTES Hendry County School Board Regular Meeting Tuesday, September 26, 2017 The Hendry County School Board met in Regular Session beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the School Board Meeting Room, Hendry Co. Courthouse, 2nd Fl., 25 E. Hickpochee, LaBelle, FL. Those in attendance were: Jon Basquin, Chairman; Sally Berg, Stephanie Busin and Amanda Nelson, Members; Paul K. Puletti, Superintendent; and Michael R. McKinley, School Board Attorney. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Basquin. Pledge & Invocation – Chairman Basquin led the Board and guests in the Lord's Prayer and the Salute to the U. S. Flag. Recognition - LaBelle Area Retirees - Superintendent Puletti and Board Members recognized the following LaBelle Area Retirees for their service to the District. Kathryn Meador, LES Teacher - 21 years Willadine Spence, Senior Personnel Specialist, HR Department - 35 years Jodi Bell, Director of Federal Programs - 28 years Note: Mrs. Meador was not present; her plaque will be sent to her. Presentations - Mary Pringle, Hendry County Director - Special Olympics Florida - Mrs. Mary Pringle, Special Olympics Florida Hendry County Director, introduced Mr. Mark Thompson, Regional Manager. Mr. Thompson addressed the Board and guests regarding Special Olympics. He briefly provided the background of the organization and an overview of the activities offered. Mr. Thompson provided Board Members with an informational packet for their review. Mrs. Pringle and Mr. Thompson requested the support of the School Board for the school-based programs. Kevin McCarthy, Director of Facilities, Maintenance & Transportation - Storm Report – Mr. Kevin McCarthy, Director of Facilities, Maintenance & Transportation, provided a report to the Board regarding the damages throughout the District that were caused by Hurricane Irma. He shared a PowerPoint depicting the various damages for the Board and guests and answered questions by Board Members. Public Comments - Chairman Basquin asked if there was anyone in the audience that would like to address the Board regarding any agenda item. There was no response. Amend Agenda – Superintendent Puletti requested that Item d. - Plan for Hurricane Make-up Days under Board Member Business be moved to this point and time. September 26, 2017 Page 2 Plan for Hurricane Make-up Days – Mrs. Lucinda Kelley, Deputy Superintendent for Continuous Improvement, Human Resources and Operations, reviewed the proposed plan to make up lost instructional time due to Hurricane Irma for the Board and guests. At this time, concerned parents and staff from the audience shared their thoughts with the Board on the proposed plan. After a lengthy discussion, it was moved by Sally Berg and seconded by Amanda Nelson, and the Board approved the proposed plan to make up the lost information time due to Hurricane Irma as recommended by Superintendent Puletti. (Busin - Nay) (See Superintendent's File) Old Business - Consent Agenda from 9/7/17 - On motion by Amanda Nelson and second by Sally Berg, the Board approved the following Consent Agenda Items en masse with the exception of the Priority Marketing Strategic Communication Services Contract as recommended by Superintendent Puletti.
