    Wednesday 13 May 2020 GUERNSEY PRESS OBITUARY 23 OBITUARY Trevor Cherry by Advocate Footballer Trevor Raymond Ashton Cherry, pictured in 1981. (28247216) T IS WITH regret that I have learnt of the sad demise of my friend Trevor Cherry as a result of a massive heart attack. This makes it two former footballers who have died within a Ishort period of time. Trevor was in the same school year as myself and over the years we had become friends and only about six weeks ago my other half was with the denizens of the chairman’s suite at City in Madrid, of which Trevor was part, as a result of his friendship and business association with Mike Marshall (himself a former player). Trevor had been a regular visitor over the years to City and always had time to talk about his former colleagues at Elland Road. Indeed, I had hoped many years ago during the second coming of Malcolm Allison to persuade him to join City to give the defence more stability. Before going into detail I must say that he was a very self-effacing and modest man, unlike most footballers. There will be many tributes to Trevor but when Bradford City went into administration in the early 1980s Stafford Higginbottom, later chairman, said to me that unlike many managers he had a brain (and not just in his feet) and was very sensiblel. Prophetic words, it proved. Trevor was born in Huddersfield and was always very proud of the town (and had heard of the world-famous Choral Society) and eventually forced his way into the first team.

The 20 players taking part at the Seamaster 2016 Women’s World Cup qualified through their Continental Cup’s, apart from wildcard player ZHANG Lily (USA) and substitute SOLJA Petrissa (GER) who replaces the World Champion DING Ning (CHN). Stripes returned in 1975 after twelve years of solid amber shirts, but the most striking element of the new kit was the white shorts that created a throwback look, referencing Tigers kits used between World Wars. Shirt advertising was still a few years away, but sportswear firms were pushing boundaries in the 1970s: Europa of Leicestershire became the first supplier to put their logo on a City kit. First used in 1975/76, this shirt design is commonly associated with signed Billy Bremner signing from Leeds United. There were several versions, the first of which had Europa's logo without a wordmark, that was added for 1976/77. For 1978/79, City replaced the monogram with a tiger head crest, at the same time dropping white shorts in favour of the black set previously used with the away kit. Third tier teams rarely get national media coverage, but the 1992/93 home shirt, with it's all over tiger stripe print, ensured its everlasting notoriety. V počtu získaných medailí na světových šampionátech je ČR nadále na čtvrtém místě historické tabulky za Čínou, Maďarskem a Japonskem. Českoslovenští stolní tenisté vybojovali na mistrovstvích světa 29 zlatých medailí. V historii mistrovství Evropy je 59 medailových zápisů spojených s Československem, z toho 9 zlatých. Čeští stolní tenisté získali od vzniku samostatné České republiky čtyři bronzové medaile. Je to zároveň výzva pro současnou a příští generace, abychom mohli přidat nové příjemné vzpomínky a rozšířili kolekci úspěchů. Tato bakalářská práce zachycuje celou historii stolního tenisu v ČR.
