Hans favoritsport var ellers fodbold, men en af hans skolekammerater fik ham til at stille op i en skoleturnering. Her blev Allan nr. 3 og vandt et håndklæde, og han syntes egentlig det var sjovere at han fik præmien end klubben , derfik en præmie.

SUMMER SEASON ENDS Our 10-week starter season has come to an end. Congratulations to the following players on a great start to the year. The A Grade Grand Final saw Matt Camilleri, John Roberts and Shannon Camilleri triumph over Chris Addis, Gavin Jackson and Ed Menegol. B Grade had Michael Kiki, Will Corluka and Connor Ziday taking the chocolates over Jim Scott, Syed Ahmed and Brian Guy. The battle for honours in the C Grade Handicap Competition went to Ross Lappin, Jason Craddock, and Angela Cricchiola filling in for Chris Ribbons over Christina Camilleri, Katia Corluka and Deb Schoen. Leading Player for A Grade was Matt Camilleri. Michael Kiki took out the B Grade Leading Player award. Annemarie Rothwell won the Leading Player for C Grade. Our congratulations go to them all. FUND-RAISING FUN AND CHRIS GETS HIS JUST REWARDS On the 13th of April, in the short break before the finals, Melton Table Tennis became the centre of the universe for table tennis fun. Table Tennis Victoria CEO, Dennis Makaling attended to present Chris Addis with his Para Hall of Fame award. When Dennis read out the list of titles won by Chris, the reason he got the award became obvious.

    HOW CHINESE NEW MEDIA CONSTRUCT ELITE FEMALE ATHLETES: GENDER, NATIONALISM, AND INDIVIDUALISM by QINGRU XU (Under the Direction of Dr. Peggy J. Kreshel) Around the world, sport is principally organized around masculinity. Women are often afforded limited access to sports participation, situated as “others” in a male-dominated domain. This gender inequality is mirrored in sports media; selective representations have a tremendous influence on people’s perception and understanding of sport, athletes, and society. In this study, I examined media representations of two Chinese female athletes of different status—specialized athlete, Ding Ning, and professional athlete, Li Na— in China, a nation in the midst of political/economic/cultural transformation and a sports reform initiative. Analyzing stories drawn from two Chinese web portals, I focused particularly on how gender, nationalism, and collectivism/individualism entered into media representations to determine if there were differences in the portrayals of these two female athletes. The portraits that emerged were very distinctive. A textual analysis revealed significant differences in each of the three conceptual areas. A fourth theme, which I have identified as “monetary value” also emerged. Possible explanations for and implications of differences in the media portrayals of the two athletes at this particular historical moment in Chinese society were provided. Mr. Moura welcomed the EB members to Guimarães and invited to a dinner in the city centre. 1. Adoption of the agenda: The President informed about a letter received from Israel about the ETTU Cup date which needs to be dealt by the EB. The agenda was agreed. 2. Minutes of the meeting in Düsseldorf GER (29th May and 3rd June 2017): Mr. Munivrana wished that amendments of previous minutes are recorded in the minutes or to receive the amended version. The minutes of the meetings in Düsseldorf were agreed and adopted. Mr. Romanescu raised the request about prize money allocation for the ETTU Cup men and women. Mrs. Darfelt pointed out that the EB can look into it once the 2018 budget is finalised. In principle the EB agrees in having prize money for the European club competitions. 3. Report of President, Deputy President and Vice-Presidents: - ITTF AGM, BoD, OPC, Promotions and Planning Working Group (RK) The President informed that these reports will follow.

Der Weg nach Rio de Janeiro führt über Hamm. Das mag geografisch nur bedingt gelten, aber im Tischtennis derzeit absolut. Für die besten deutschen und europäischen Tischtennisspieler wird am 15. und 16. Juli sozusagen Rio „simuliert“. Ob Boden, Tische oder Bälle: Beim letzten Einzel-Wettkampf vor dem Abflug an die Copacabana wird alles so sein wie später beim Olympischen Tischtennisturnier. Hochklassiges Tischten- nis sind wir in Hamm gewohnt. Regelmäßig richtet der TTC GW Bad Hamm Spiele und Turniere der deutschen Nationalmannschaft aus. Dieses Turnier mit dem Feld aus Welt- Ich bedanke mich beim TTC GW Bad Hamm klasse-Spielern ist aber auch für eine Tisch- und den zahlreichen Helferinnen und Hel- tennis-Hochburg wie Hamm etwas ganz fern für die Ausrichtung dieses Turniers der Besonderes.
