Parasuraman responsibility. The Institute was all this long before Director, TISS such terms became buzzwords. Like other universities, the Institute creates knowledge and develops skills of students to enable them to become successful professionals. Embedded in its curriculum is a special lesson, one that teaches compassion for the disadvantaged in a fast moving world in the pursuit of wealth creation and consumption. Therefore, the contribution of TISS goes far beyond the mandate of a conventional educational institution: from providing dedicated and trained professionals to innovative and policy-oriented research, from offering models of successful field interventions to contributing to the formulation of national policies and programmes, and much more. Over the years, the quiet perseverance of TISS graduates working on social issues have helped to strengthen the nation. TISS continued with its tradition of contributing towards making a difference to the nation in the 2016–2017 academic year. 2 ANNUAL REPORT 2016–2017 KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT The School of Management and Labour Studies (ii) The unique M.A. programme
