Wray’s Celebrates IGA Membership and New Era for Local, Family Business

YAKIMA, WA – Wray’s & Drug stores today announced that it has become a member of the Independent Grocers Alliance (IGA), the world’s largest voluntary supermarket network. In recognition of Wray’s new affiliation with IGA and continued development of their family business, all three of Wray’s Yakima stores will be renamed to “Wray’s IGA.”

Third generation Wray’s President and CEO, Chris Brown, said, “Our family and entire staff are very excited by the many ways that IGA is helping us strengthen our overall operations, product selection and store services.” Brown explained, “IGA’s ‘Hometown Proud’ values are a perfect for us. Our affiliation with IGA will enable us to leverage the dedication and commitment to our customers and community that have been a part of Wray’s culture since being founded in 1955 by my grandfather, Wray Brown, and later passed on to me by my father, Bob Brown. Membership in IGA is providing us the tools to better compete and grow our business for generations to come.”

Wray’s Market Fresh IGA stores will now carry more than 200 IGA brand products in addition to the Western Family label and offer many special IGA promotions and events throughout the year. Shoppers will also enjoy Wray’s powerful, new website featuring online specials, weekly ads, recipes and a wide variety of and meal planning tools. To help build on Wray’s long history of offering shoppers exceptional customer service and quality, the entire Wray’s team will participate in IGA’s extensive training and assessment programs designed to develop and grow IGA stores and associates throughout the world.

In addition to raising the globally recognized IGA Red Oval banner, Wray’s will be hosting Grand Opening Celebrations over the next 4 weeks (Oct. 3 – Oct. 31) at their Chalet Place, Meadowbrook Mall and Southgate locations. A ribbon cutting ceremony will held on October 3 at 9:00 a.m. at the Chalet Place store. Everyone is invited to come enjoy the festivities and see all that Wray’s and IGA bring to the greater Yakima community.

A second Wray’s market was opened in 1960 on North First Street in Yakima. In 1966, the Glenwood store relocated to Wray’s current Chalet Place location.
