De esta manera cuenta con centros en las tres provincias valencianas con lo que, además de prestar el servicio de la educación superior, contribuye a la vertebración de la Comunidad Valenciana. Las instituciones permanecen, las personas cambian. Este curso académico 2006-2007 ha supuesto el final del mandato del rector Alfonso Bullón de Mendoza y Gómez de Valugera y el principio del rector José Alberto Parejo Gámir. A lo largo de esta memoria se puede observar la coherencia de la gestión de ambos en el sentido de profundizar en la identidad católica de la Universidad y, a la vez, la búsqueda de la excelencia. Estos dos rasgos que definen a la Universidad Cardenal Herrera, y también a las demás Universidades CEU entronca con la vocación fundadora de Ángel Herrera Oria. Precisamente, el año próximo se cumplen los 75 años desde la creación del CEU, en aquel lejano año 1933. Desde entonces hasta hoy las obras de la Asociación Católica de Propagandistas se han desarrollado en diversas ciudades de España. La Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera, que lleva el nombre del fundador, conforme podemos comprobar a lo largo de las páginas de esta Memoria cumple plenamente con las expectativas que se habían puesto en ella. CILLER N Los profesores y demás personal pueden estar satisfechos de su trabajo. Y CA los alumnos, que son la razón de ser de la Universidad, pueden estar orgullosos de contar con tantos y tan buenos profesores cuya vocación les lleva a ser N verdaderos maestros. Por todo ello es para este Canciller un gran honor abrir esta Memoria, y quiere GRA dejar constancia de ello en sus primeras páginas. DEL carta Alfredo Dagnino Guerra GRAN CANCILLER Al comenzar mi mandato como Rector, deseo destacar antes de nada la intensa labor para alcanzar la excelencia académica que esta comunidad universitaria ha desarrollado hasta el momento. La implantación del primer curso selectivo, la exigencia de nivel intermedio de inglés para pasar del primer al segundo ciclo, la incorporación de un método de aprendizaje más interactivo a través del programa Platón y la renovación del sistema de tutorías, de carácter individualizado, son logros importantes que responden a esos esfuerzos. También deben destacarse entre ellos la puesta en marcha de nuevas instalaciones y medios para la formación práctica de los estudiantes, como El Rotativo, Radio CEU, la productora Camera y el Núcleo Zoológico. Por mi parte debo destacar también que me considero un “hombre del CEU”, al que llegué a los 17 años para estudiar Económicas y en el que siempre he permanecido desde entonces. Ahora se ha confiado en mí para dirigir esta Universidad, y se trata de una nueva tarea, que emprendo con una gran ilusión y con el deseo de seguir siendo útil a la institución. Afrontamos en ella nuevos retos como el de la caída de la demanda y el aumento de la oferta de centros y titulaciones universitarias, además de los cambios en las preferencias de elección de carrera y las continuas modificaciones legales, que hacen que la gestión universitaria no sea tarea fácil. A ellos se añaden la globalización y el progreso técnico acelerado, así como el agnosticismo y el relativismo moral del entorno social en el que se desenvuelve una universidad cristiana como la Cardenal Herrera. En este contexto, nos hemos marcado dos grandes objetivos de futuro: la búsqueda de la máxima calidad en todos los ámbitos de nuestra actuación (la docencia, la investigación, la transmisión de nuestros valores del humanismo cristiano y los servicios a la sociedad) y el refuerzo de nuestra identidad católica. Frente a estos retos, el trabajo ya emprendido para la adaptación al Espacio Europeo de Enseñanza Superior (EEES) es una de las ventajas competitivas que la Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera debe aprovechar, así como potenciar la colaboración con otras Universidades nacionales y extranjeras de prestigio para impartir títulos conjuntos, reforzar la orientación e inserción laboral de los titulados y prestar atención permanente a la calidad. DEL RECTOR CARTA La comunidad universitaria de la Cardenal Herrera se encuentra en definitiva ante una tarea difícil pero muy ilusionante, en la que cuenta con el apoyo total del Patronato y con el ejemplo de nuestros predecesores en el CEU, además de con un equipo humano joven, capacitado y de gran vocación, por lo que hay que ser optimistas ante el futuro.
