DIRECTOR’S NOTES This past year has, to some, felt like the strains of Puck’s inti- mation at the end of A Midsummer NIght’s Dream: That you have but slumber'd here While these visions did appear. And this weak and idle theme, No more yielding but a dream... I don’t know about you, but I can definitely say that as we come through the back side of this challenging situation we’ve been living through, I feel as if I’ve awakened from a deep slum- ber of sorts. There has been a huge void in the life of artists and audiences alike. The missing spark of connection. The energy of communing between performer and audience. For the final show in our Season of Surprises, I wanted to create a special experience where we could finally fill that void and celebrate each oth- er. The themes of A Midsummer Night’s Dream: love, imagination, order and disorder are ones we all have struggled with, frolicked in and explored at one time or another. It’s no wonder this is one of Shakespeare’s most cherished comedies. It’s characters and engaging text are a veritable playground of wonderfulness. This gem of a play is the inspiration for what you are about to see. I am so thrilled to have been able to connect with so many wonderfully local and regional artisans who lent their talents to create original music, song, text and art for our company of actors to breathe life into. Little did I dream when I charged my team of play- wrights, poets, composers, lyricists and artisans to work their magic and let these inspirations take them wherever they wanted, that I would be given such a gold mine of material to work with. I am forever grateful. The pieces you are about to see today gave us the joyful opportunity to do what we so crave to do…and that is create….invent….and share. We have been so fortunate to partner with Julie and Sam here at Thorpewood to be able to bring you a visual feast for the senses. They have graciously offered their dazzlingly beautiful fields, forest and flora to use as our backdrop for what we hope is a truly unique and magical adventure. As the fairy queen Titania says at the end of the actual play: Hand in hand, with fairy grace, Will we sing, and bless this place. We invite you to use this day to re-invigorate yourself and your connection to the air, the sounds and the beautiful landscapes you will wander through, and most importantly, those you will share this experience with. Your walk from perfor- mance to performance will be a spectacle of beauty all on it’s own, so look around, listen, take it all in…a most importantly enjoy. The evil Nome King Ruggedo is demanding he be made king of the world and is holding the Wizard hostage until Ozma, Queen of Oz, agrees to step aside. Ozma begs her old friend Dorothy to take the mechanical man Tik Tok and rescue the Wizard. But the journey will be long and perilous, and Ruggedo.s powers are very strong. Nevertheless, Dorothy will do anything to save her old friend. Along the way, Dorothy and Tik Tok meet Queen Ann.s bungling army, the tail end of a rainbow who.s lost her sisters, a delicate Princess Rose, and a prospector from Colorado who.s looking for his brother. They all decide to find the Wizard, who might be able to solve each of their problems.

    Elphaba and Glinda

    Bradford 1 Kiara Bradford Instructor’s Name ENGL 1013 Date Elphaba and Glinda Elphaba and Glinda are two characters from the Broadway musical Wicked. The play is a prequel of the movie The Wizard of Oz and focuses on the witches of Oz. Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the Good Witch, are best friends in this show, but that is where their similarities end. These two witches are different in their appearance, their personalities, and the way that other people choose to see them. The most notable difference between the two characters is their appearances. Elphaba has a unique look that makes her a recognizable protagonist. She has jet-black hair that goes all the way down her back and has dark-green skin. In the first half of the play, she dresses in an innocent way; in fact, she spends most of this time wearing her school uniform and glasses with her hair in a long braid. In the second half of the play, she dresses in the iconic wicked witch outfit, which is a long black dress that touches the floor and a long black hat that points straight to the ceiling. In contrast, Glinda is an example of a typical high school mean girl. She has short, bouncy blond curls with skin that is a normal color. In the first half of the play, her outfits are loud with bright pinks and yellows, and not one of her outfits is complete without lots of accessories. In the second half, her outfits are tame in color, but she makes up for the lack of color in the fanciness of her dresses.

Festival, is set to take place June 10-12, 2016 on the grounds of the Fairfax County Government Center. The Celebrate Fairfax! Festival features 25 acres of amazing concerts, family programs, exhibits, thrilling carnival rides and nightly fireworks! Among the festival's highlights are more than 130 performances on eight stages, with an exceptional line-up of national, regional and local artists. Included are three fantastic headlining performances: 2016 Headline Entertainment Schedule for the Bud Light Main Stage: Friday, June 10th at 8:00 p.m. Plain White T’s The Plain White T's kicked off their career in the Chicago suburbs, playing a mix of pop, punk, and melody--‐driven rock & roll in basements and clubs across the metro area.
