Muzeus is a collective audio guide solution. All tours created on Muzeus will be accessible on the Muzeus app. So when visitors want to see your tours on their mobile devices, they simply have to select your institution in the Muzeus app to access your page and view your tours. It is also possible to get your own personalised app without other institutions in it. Contact us to learn more about this: [email protected] 3 | P a g e THE MUZEUS APP The Muzeus app is free. It is available at the App Store for Apple mobile devices. It is mainly developed to run on iPods and iPhones with iOS 6 and higher, but it can also run on iPads and mini iPads; a specific version, better adapted for Apple tablets, is in development. Android and HTML 5 versions are also in development. App Structure All Muzeus Tours are built following the same template. Here is the structure: The first level comprises the list of all institutions (museums, interpretation centers, historic sites, etc.) that have built a tour on Muzeus. Each institution has its own personalized page with information, opening hours and available tours. A tour can be an exhibit in a museum, an outside tour, etc. Each tour is composed of a list of items; for example, artifacts in an exhibit or stops along the route of an outside tour. Finally, descriptive text, images, videos and voice-over provide information for each item. 4 | P a g e App Pages Here are the app pages according to the structure described above. Walkthrough The first time you launch the Muzeus app on your mobile device, you will see the walkthrough. Simply swipe pages or click Next to do the walkthrough. Institutions List Then you will be prompted to select an institution from the list. You can also view the institutions on a map . Institution Page (your page!) Once an institution is selected, the institution’s home page is loaded. From here you can find information about the institution by clicking on and get the address and opening hours by clicking on “Plan Your Visit”. Go back to the Institutions list by clicking on Click on “Begin Your Visit” to view the available tours. 5 | P a g e Tour List Here you can find all the institution’s tours. It can be a mix of indoor tours, outdoor tours, exhibits, collections, etc. Tour Items List For each Tour, you have Tour Items. The Tour Items list consists of items such as artifacts, paintings, points of interest, etc. Learn more about the Tour by clicking on or simply click on an Item to learn more about it. Item Page For each item, you have a main image or video, a text and voice over. Moreover, if you scroll down, you have access to additional images and videos related to the item. 6 | P a g e THE MUZEUS TOUR BUILDER By subscribing to a Muzeus plan (Free, Basic or Pro), you will have access to the Muzeus Tour Builder to create your guided audio tours. Login to Muzeus on: http://www.muzeus.com/Account/Login 7 | P a g e Getting started Navigation Bar The navigation bar shows your level (Home, Tour, Item level, etc.). Use the Navigation Bar tabs to go back to a previous level. Save When you make changes to your tour, you must save before leaving the page. Language Selection You can type your texts in English and French. To switch from one language to another, roll your mouse cursor over any text field and select EN for English and FR for French. 8 | P a g e Create an Object (An Object can be a Tour, an Item or a Related Image) Simply click on the “Drop files here or click to add items” zone. OR Drag and Drop one or multiple images over the drop zone. Delete a Single Object With your mouse, roll over the object you want to delete and click on “X”. 9 | P a g e Delete Multiple Objects Select multiple objects by checking the check box and then clicking on the trash can. Add or Replace Media (Media can be an image or a video) To add or replace media, simply drag and drop new media into the media drop zone. Media Accepted We accept any .png, .jpg and .tiff files with a maximum resolution of 5000 x 5000 pixels. At the moment we do not accept videos. Video will be accepted in the next release. 10 | P a g e Visibility For each Object (Tour, Item and Related Images), you have a visibility icon that can set your object to be: VISIBLE HIDDEN When hidden, an Object will not be displayed in the Muzeus app. So if a Tour is hidden, this Tour and its Items will not appear in the Muzeus app. Use the visibility functionality when you are working on a new, unfinished exhibit that you don’t want visitors to see. Item Count For each plan, there is a limit on the specific number of items you can include. Free plan: 8 items, Basic plan: 50 items, Pro plan: 150 items Your item count is displayed on the top bar: All Visible Items are counted, even the ones in a Hidden Tour. If you have reached your limit, hide items in your hidden tours or subscribe to a higher plan. QR Codes On each page of the Tour Builder you will find a QR code. This QR Code, when scanned with the Muzeus app QR code scanner, will instantly redirect the app to the proper tour page. You can print these codes and place them along your tours so your visitors will only need to scan these codes with the Muzeus app to instantly access the object page. 11 | P a g e Voice-Over You can add voice-over to your Tours and Item descriptions. For each description, you have the choice of: - None: No voice-over - Automatic: Voice-over created with a Text-to-Speech generator from your Description text. - Automatic with Custom Text: Voice-over created with a Text-to-Speech generator from a custom text different from your Description. Used when the Description is too long and you want a voice-over that summarizes the description or when you want to tweak your text for an accurate text-to-speech conversion. - Audio File: Add your own voice-over audio file NOTE: The voice-over can’t exceed 1 minute when created with the Text-to-Speech generator Automatic Simply click on “play” to generate the voice- over file. The generated voice-over will be heard in the next few seconds. You can generate voice overs in both English and French. If you are not satisfied with the voice-over, use the “Automatic with Custom Text” option to tweak your text, or use your own audio file. 12 | P a g e Automatic with Custom Text To use the automatic voice over with custom text option: Type your text in the new text field. Click on “play” to generate the voice over file. The generated voice over will be heard in the next few seconds. Audio File Simply drag and drop your audio file into the drop zone. There is no limit on the length of the file. Paypal Donate If you have a Paypal Donate account, simply type your account email in the following field at the institution home page. A Donate button will then appear in your Muzeus Institution information page. 13 | P a g e How to add videos You can add videos and Youtube linked videos to your tours. The videos can appear at the following places in the app: An Item Main Media An Item Related Media A Tour Detail (Video upload or Youtube) (Video upload or Youtube) (Video upload only, no Youtube) NOTE: Youtube videos will not appear in Muzeus app when internet connection is not available. • I. Introduction & Background
    I. Introduction & Background This project was initiated by the Duluth Heritage Preservation Commission in order to document the historic resources within an approximately 100-acre, 24-block area of the East End which was defined as follows: properties fronting North 21st Avenue East extending east to North 27th Avenue East and properties fronting East Superior Street on the south extending northward to include properties fronting on East Third Street. Two hundred and twelve residential buildings were documented (see annotated list of properties in Appendix A and maps of area in Appendix B.) The project was paid for by a Certified Local Government grant from the National Park Service through the State Historic Preservation Office at the Minnesota Historical Society and a cash match provided by the Duluth Preservation Alliance. Basic background research on the houses in the East End was begun years ago and can be almost entirely credited to the work of Maryanne Norton, currently a member of the Duluth Heritage Preservation Commission and volunteer research librarian at the Duluth Public Library. The project product is provided in two parts: the first is this report, which is a synthesis of the significant findings concerning the district; the second is a set of survey forms in which each individual property is documented with a written description, photograph and map. The second part is under separate cover. Notes: . For purposes of this report, the term “East End Neighborhood” or “East End” refers to the approximately 24-block area defined above, even though this neighborhood actually includes a more extensive area (the remainder of which is to be surveyed in a second phase).

  • ITALIAN BOWIE Tutto Di David Bowie in Italia E Visto Dall'italia INTRODUZIONE

Outside: The Creation of a Liminoid Space as a Metaphor for Pre-Millennial Society Author: Nicholas P. Greco, B.A. (University of Ottawa) Supervisor: Dr Susan Fast Number of Pages: xi, 166. 111 ABSTRACT The majority of writings on David Bowie have focussed on his early work. Many feel that Bowie's early work has much merit, as has been made clear by the vast pool of both academic and popular writings regarding his work in the early 1970s, his collaborations with Brian Eno in the late 1970s, and his most commercially accepted works in the early 1980s. However, much of the academic writing on Bowie has chosen to focus only on these works and ignores his more recent material. This thesis contributes to the body of knowledge regarding the more recent work of David Bowie. In 1995, Bowie released the album 1. Outside. Through its music and lyrics, album art, accompanying narrative, music video and live performance, Bowie presents a world of the absurd and violent. He engages with the notions of murder as art, body modification as ritual, and the state of society at the end of the twentieth century.

  • Late Style, Disability, and the Temporality of Illness in Popular Music
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA Los Angeles Singing at Death’s Door: Late Style, Disability, and the Temporality of Illness in Popular Music A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Musicology by Tiffany Naiman 2017 © Copyright by Tiffany Naiman 2017 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION Singing at Death’s Door: Late Style, Disability, and the Temporality of Illness in Popular Music by Tiffany Naiman Doctor of Philosophy in Musicology University of California, Los Angeles, 2017 Professor Robert W. Fink, Co-Chair Professor Raymond L. Knapp, Co-Chair This dissertation investigates musical expressions of temporal alterities in works created by popular music artists, identifying their aesthetic responses as their bodies become ill, disabled, and they become more aware of mortality. I propose a critical, hermeneutic, and theoretical method drawn from Edward Said’s appropriation of Adorno’s expression “late style” that I have designated ill style, a form of creativity within a temporality of illness. Late style is discernable in works produced, paradigmatically, at the end of one’s career in “old age,” but late style may also be understood as an influence on artistic output at any stage of life if the subject is experiencing untimeliness and a disruption in access to the communal understanding of futurity and time, a possible consequence of factors other than age. I contend that late style, accelerated by illness, disrupts Western cultural attempts at ignoring precarious and finite nature of existence; the resulting expressions of lateness ask audiences to do the same. I offer a way in which to think more critically about what scholars consider late style, how it functions in popular ii music studies and society, and how it intersects with the fields of disability, gender, queer, and critical race studies, and the social sciences.
