Carpenter's Row represents one of the earliest rows of purpose built worker's cottages in Coalbrookdale, dating to 1783. The cottages are Grade II Listed and are included within the Conservation Area.

Originally built as a row of eight workers cottages with brewhouses to either end, the latter elements have been subsequently converted to residential use, Cottages 5 and 6 have been extended with an Eastern range which has a duel pitch roof and joins the original roof with a valley gutter. Numbers 4 to 8, are currently empty and have been unused since the 1970s and therefore retain many original features and offer an interesting development opportunity.

The standard company house in Coalbrookdale comprised a two-room dwelling arranged over two storeys laid out in terraces of up to ten houses. The layout is designed to an L-plan, composed of two rooms - a living room which is roughly square with corner range and a pantry leading off it at one side.
