Delegates will have the opportunity to visit some of Nanning’s and Fangchenggang’s finest projects and will be introduced to the local practice by both the local authorities and developers in the city of Nanning and Fangchenggang. Go behind the scene and witness a first-hand experience on how China develops the gateway into China through its One Belt One Road initiative. A REHDA Youth Initiative INTRODUCTION

NANNING, GUANGXI Nanning ( 南宁), is the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. It is known as the "Green City" because of its abundance of lush tropical foliage. Nanning is located in the southern part of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 160 km from the border with . It has an administrative area of 22,293 km2. Nanning has jurisdiction over 7 districts, 5 counties, and 6 development zones. As of 2014 it had a population of 6,913,800 with 4,037,000 in its urban area. The city currently has seven buildings taller than 100m, built or under construction. Nanning has many parks with tropical lush green landscape, it is one of the "greenest" cities in China, and it's known as "Green City"(绿城). Nanning's downtown skyline is rapidly changing and the city is becoming an important hub in China. Nanning has six development zones and industrial parks, three of which accounted for 6 billion RMB of Nanning's GDP, more than 8 percent of Nanning's total. Mineral resources include gold, iron, manganese, aluminium, quartz, silver, indium, coal, marble, and granite. One third of China's different types of mineral resources are found in Nanning.

FANGCHENGGANG, GUANGXI Fangchenggang ( 防 城 港 ), is a prefecture-level city in the south of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China. Fangchenggang a coastal city is in southern Guangxi, bordering Vietnam. Its area is 6,181 km2, 120 km2 of that urban. Fangchenggang has 2 urban districts, 1 county, 1 county-level city, 19 townships, 13 towns, 283 villages, and 19 sub- districts. Fangchenggang has a total population of 717,966. Besides port related industries there is substantial tourism, commercial fishing, hydropower, food and beverage production, and agriculture. Other natural resources are coal, limestone, and spring water. The first phase of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant, a nuclear power plant project is under construction here. There are many forested mountains and stream filled valleys. The area along the border with Vietnam relatively undeveloped and draws considerable tourism. Fangchenggang's forests contain more than 500 types of plants, more than 4000 medicinal plants and herbs, 25 species of mammals, and many species of insects, reptiles, amphibians, and birds. Many nationally protected animals can still be found in Fangchenggang.

Located not too far away from the International Asean Business Centre, the green roof that covers the Nanning Planning

Exhibition Hall is an elevated urban park that aims to bring institutional architecture back to its people. Designed by Zhubo Design Z-Studio, the building acts as an artificial mountain that expands the existing mountain park so that a new public space is given back to the city dwellers.

The Nanning Planning Exhibition Hall houses the city’s urban planning blueprint that shows the city image through an exhibit basing on local people need’s, respect for nature and human oriented values. The hall also exhibit the green initiative adopted by the city to keep it clean and environmentally friendly. The ground floor actually houses the history of the city and its origin. Come and learn how and why the local authority in Nanning plan the city and keep it sustainable.
