Every Taylor Swift Song Ranked from Worst to Best Every Taylor Swift Song Ranked From Worst To Best So, I recently posted my blog post about how I ranked Taylor Swift’s Albums. That, in and of itself, was a hard thing for me to do. Taylor Swift is one of my, if not my, favorite singer of all time. There is just something about her music that I connect to really well, more so than a lot of other artists. In the interest of wanting to make more posts about music in general (Not only T-Swift), but I’ve also decided to rank her songs from worst to best. Now, a quick disclaimer. I am only doing the songs from her albums, including the ones on deluxe editions. I am not rating any acoustic versions or anything like that though. I am also not rating any songs that she appears on. (Such as “I Don’t Want To Live Forever” and Highway Don’t Care”). I am, however, including songs on her albums that other people appear on (“Everything Has Changed” “End Game”). I also forgot to add in “Safe and Sound” feat. The Civil Wars, so I apologize for that. Also, please be aware that these are my own personal opinions as of right now. I’m ranking the songs based on 1. Lyrics and 2. How much I actually enjoyed the song. For me, a song that I can enjoy is better than a song that might be better “lyrically.” Enough of this explanation though. Are we ready to see the list? 98. “Look What You Made Me Do” The music video is kick ass. The lyrics? Eh. They could have been better. Still, I applaud her for branching out musically. http://box2124.temp.domains/~baleighs/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/giphy-5.gif 97. “Superman” 96. “A Perfectly Good Heart” 95. “Cold As You” 94. “Shake It Off” Fun fact: I used to think she was singing “bakers gonna bake bake bake bake bake.” I was wrong. http://box2124.temp.domains/~baleighs/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/giphy-6.gif 93. “Invisible” 92. “Girl At Home” 91. “SuperStar” 90. “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” Like…ever. http://box2124.temp.domains/~baleighs/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/giphy-7.gif 89. “If This Was A Movie” 88. “I’m Only Me When I’m With You” 87. “22” 86. “Should’ve Said No” Angry teenage Swift? Yes, please. 85. “Tied Together With A Smile” 84. “Jump Then Fall” 83. “Change” 82. “Bad Blood” 81.“Speak Now” I actually used to not like this song, but now I think it’s pretty good. 80. “Getaway Car” 79. “How You Get The Girl” One word: Bop 78. “You Belong With Me” Oh, the song about unrequited love that ends up with the girl still getting the guy in the end. This song is nostalgic and just the right amount of cheesy. I’m a big fan of the lyrics of this song as well. They’re simple but relatable. http://box2124.temp.domains/~baleighs/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/giphy-8.gif 77. “The Best Day” 76. “The Outside” 75. “A Place In This World” 74. “Holy Ground” 73. “Welcome To New York” Ah, yes. The song that makes me want to run away to New York. 72. “Breathe” Taylor Swift? Colbie Caillat? Yes, please. 71. “The Last Time” 70. “Starlight” Impossible dreams? Of course. 69. “Innocent” 68. “I Almost Do” 67. “I Did Something Bad” This is like one of the best songs to get me pumped up. I feel like I could take over the world listening to it. 66. “Untouchable” 65. “Stay Stay Stay” 64. “Last Kiss” This song is like beautifully depressing. 63.”Teardrops On My Guitar” http://box2124.temp.domains/~baleighs/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/giphy-9.gif 62. “Tim McGraw” http://box2124.temp.domains/~baleighs/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/giphy-10.gif 61. “Long Live” 60. “You’re Not Sorry” http://box2124.temp.domains/~baleighs/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/giphy-11.gif 59. “Sparks Fly” Yes, one of my favorites to just sing along to. 58. “Mean” http://box2124.temp.domains/~baleighs/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/giphy-12.gif 57. “Don’t Blame Me” 56. “White Horse” http://box2124.temp.domains/~baleighs/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/giphy-13.gif 55. “Our Song” Taylor’s “country” twang really pulls this song together. 54. “Mine” 53. “Everything Has Changed” 52. “The Way I Loved You” I used to jam to this song. • Teaching Latin Love Poetry with Pop Music1
Teaching Classical Languages Volume 10, Issue 2 Kopestonsky 71 Never Out of Style: Teaching Latin Love Poetry with Pop Music1 Theodora B. Kopestonsky University of Tennessee, Knoxville ABSTRACT Students often struggle to interpret Latin poetry. To combat the confusion, teachers can turn to a modern parallel (pop music) to assist their students in understanding ancient verse. Pop music is very familiar to most students, and they already trans- late its meaning unconsciously. Building upon what students already know, teach- ers can reframe their approach to poetry in a way that is more effective. This essay shows how to present the concept of meter (dactylic hexameter and elegy) and scansion using contemporary pop music, considers the notion of the constructed persona utilizing a modern musician, Taylor Swift, and then addresses the pattern of the love affair in Latin poetry and Taylor Swift’s music. To illustrate this ap- proach to connecting ancient poetry with modern music, the lyrics and music video from one song, Taylor Swift’s Blank Space (2014), are analyzed and compared to poems by Catullus. Finally, this essay offers instructions on how to create an as- signment employing pop music as a tool to teach poetry — a comparative analysis between a modern song and Latin poetry in the original or in translation. KEY WORDS Latin poetry, pedagogy, popular music, music videos, song lyrics, Taylor Swift INTRODUCTION When I assign Roman poetry to my classes at a large research university, I re- ceive a decidedly unenthusiastic response. For many students, their experience with poetry of any sort, let alone ancient Latin verse, has been fraught with frustration, apprehension, and confusion.

  • An Unforgettable Performance by the One and Only, Taylor Swift. Even Ten Years Later, the Memories Vividly Remain of My First Co
1 Lacey Silvers [email protected] English 1010 Kevin O’Donnell Final Essay December 2, 2020 An unforgettable performance by the one and only, Taylor Swift. Even ten years later, the memories vividly remain of my first concert at Thompson-Boling Arena when I was 8 years old. For as long as I can remember, I have loved Taylor Swift’s music. My mom would listen to her music as she cleaned around the house and eventually, Swift became my favorite singer. 2 Taylor Swift began singing with more of a country style and she has slowly transitioned into the pop genre now. She had released a few single songs, a Christmas music album “Sounds of the Season: The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection” in 2007, and one country album of music entitled “Fearless” (2008), before “Speak Now” (2010) was released. In 2010, when I saw her concert, she was doing the Speak Now album Tour. This was labeled as a country album; however, it was noticeable she may have been mixing in some pop throughout her music. I prefer her singing country style music but still enjoy her current pop music. She had only been in the music industry for a few years before making this transition of music style. Swift focused specifically on releasing music of the country genre from 2006-2010. The beginning transition point for Taylor Swift’s style of music was seen throughout the years 2010- 2012. Before her current albums, she sang solely country songs, and pop was a stretch for her original music. From 2014 on, pop is the only genre she focused on.

  • How Civil Wars End Lise Morjé Howard and the International System, Norms, and the Alexandra Stark Role of External Actors
How Civil Wars End How Civil Wars End Lise Morjé Howard and The International System, Norms, and the Alexandra Stark Role of External Actors Historically, civil wars were fought to the ªnish, with the complete military defeat of the losing side.1 But in the 1990s, as this article demonstrates, civil wars were more likely to end in negotiated settlements rather than victory by one side. Why? We argue that civil wars began to end in this historically distinct manner because of a fundamental change in the international norms of conºict resolution—namely, the rise of a norm of negotiated settlement. This norm arose in the context of a new international political environment dominated by U.S. unipolarity and liberal democracy; the ideas and principles of the liberal order undermined the acceptability of military victory. In the post–September 11 environment characterized by the war on terror- ism, however, the norm of negotiated settlement has been challenged by countervailing notions of appropriateness—namely, stabilization over democ- ratization and non-negotiation with terrorist groups. As a result, civil wars are ending less frequently, and less often in negotiation. The dominant inter- national political environment shapes norms of conºict resolution, which, in turn, inºuence how civil wars end. Lise Morjé Howard is Associate Professor and Alexandra Stark is a Ph.D. candidate, both in the Depart- ment of Government at Georgetown University.
