It has tremendous potential to grow and act as a catalyst for economic development and growth. It focuses on inclusive and sustainable growth of socially marginalized group. As per the report of World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), India’s Travel & Tourism sector has 7th rank and 2nd rank in World in term of total contribution to country GDP and support to employment respectively in 2016. India Travel & Tourism sector generated INR14.1 trillion (USD208.9 billion) which was 9.6% of India’s GDP and supported 40.3 million jobs which accounts for 9.3% of the country’s total jobs in 2016. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has taken several initiatives to increase and promote tourism in India such as improving tourism infrastructure, ease of visa process, prognostic the country as a 365 days’ tourist destination, quality assurance etc. The present work is an attempt to study the performance and growth of tourism industry in India.
